LPGA tee color

I asked this question a long time ago "from what tee do LPGA players tee off?"   Most commented from the tip (the black tee I presume?).

Anyway, I clicked on this page.

http://www.puresilkbahamasclassic.com/course/

And The Par 4s are shorter than my local course from the blue tee.  The par 4s at my local course are betwen 380 to 420 yards from the blue tee.  Par 3, between 170 to 230 yards (yup, 230 yards from the blue).

So can anyone tell from what tee do LPGA players tee off?

It's a mix. They will play a course that is set up around 6,600 yards. None of the tours show up at a course and play the tees set in a spot like we do. For example Whistling Straights was never played from the true tips at last year's PGA. There were grand stands on the back tee of 10. Tees were moved on a couple of par 3,s so that more interesting pin positions could be used or different angles created. The theory is to force players into make risk reward decisions under pressure. It's like that for the LPGA too.

Having written that if Lydia Ko shows up at your course for a round she's playing the tips. We have two courses at my club, both have been used for Tour or Champions Tour events. We have two LPGA players that are members here and they and their friends always play the tips. Both courses are over 7,000 and they frequently break 70.

Until you see them play live you won't have a sense of how good the women are. They are better than most think. On the other hand the guys aren't always as good as you might think. On TV we are only seeing the guys playing the best. What is amazing is how long they are and how good they are at taking their foul balls and turning them into Pars. When they are on its fun to see how close they hit their approach shots to the hole shot after shot.

I hope this helps. There is no real right answer to your question.

Rev is right about seeing them in person to realize how good they are. This year when the LPGA was in Phoenix, Minjee Lee was practicing at The Raven and I was lucky enough to be at the range that day. She just striped everything. It was impressive to watch.

ok.... so some of you have seen these women teed off from black tee?   the black tees at my course are around 450 to 500 yards for the par 4s.   suppose they hit it 240 yards average.   they still have about 200 yards or more from the fairway.  I want to see how they manage shooting that accurately from 200 yards.  Probably they use their hybrid or 5 wood?   and that if the ball is not in the rough.   it would be interesting... but now it's very cold and rainy....

Super Black is not always the color of a back tee. Some courses use blue other gold, I think I've even seen platinum. Regardless of the color you can figure out what they would shoot. What's the course rating from the tips at your course? All LPGA players have plus handicaps. The two at my club are in the plus 3 range. Regardless of the length of the course if the rating is 72.5 (a difficult course) they will break par 75 percent of the time, they will break 70 25 percent of the time.

They are very good. Both of these gals average over 250 off the tee at sea level so they are plenty long enough. The one averaged 270 last season on tour. She can reach a 500 yard hole in two but more importantly if she can't she knows how to play the hole to give herself a good chance at par.

A few years ago, the Babe Zaharias Golf Course (a munipal course in Tampa that the Babe used to own) had First Tee fundraiser.  This brought Brittainy Lincicome and a couple others to play.  They played our course, but from the Tips.  It was simply amazing to watch.  On the 2nd hole, Brittainy was off left under the trees.  She then drew an iron off the bare ground and put it on the green 220 yds away.  She "called" her shot. It was amazing. Amoung the others have been Gary Koch (grew up in Tampa) Woody Austin (held the record for the Babe course at 59 as an amateur) & Jim Thorpe (grew up in Tampa).  I was just toitally amzed to watch the Pros play the courese that we play every week.

You may get to see Brittany up close and personal on Tuesday. She hangs around Bayou/Bardmoor a lot and I'm sure that she will be home from the LPGA tour championship in Naples.

Those asian ladies driving distances' average about 240 yards (their carry is only 220 yards).   Some taller women might be longer such as M Wie and Britt Lincome.  But those two are rare...
