jbil8802
So, I'm beginning to think of a Christmas present for myself. I know some guys on here have done some stuff with Edel putter fittings and were pretty happy with it from what I can recall. There's a Club Champion in Rockville, MD that I could stop at on my way home from work that does Edel putter fitting according to the Edel website. Thinking about giving them a call and setting up an appointment. Does anyone here have any experience with Club Champion? For the guys that have gone through the Edel fitting or any putter fitting in general what's your advice? Certain questions I should ask or information I should obtain? Never done a putter fitting before so I'm trying to educate myself before I pull the trigger. Thanks in advance. apprenti23
Club Champion only does Edel Wedge fittings at the moment. A club champion putter fitting using SAM technology can be really beneficial and will instantly tell you the right style, shape, and specs of the putter you'll be most consistent with- they carry Scotty Cameron, Odyssey, Bettinardi, and SeeMore putters. Your SAM data will be sent to you and will always be saved to the CC database so when they eventually have the Edel putter fitting system you can come back and utilize all the different sight line options and see if a torque balance putter is for you (you'd probably already know of torque balance is for you or not after the Sam). CC has 50% off full bag and 33% off all other fittings right now.
wbealsd
I had a "Bettinardi Studio" fitting at 2nd Swing last summer, which I believe was beneficial. The camera's showed I actually DO have my eyes lined up properly, a preferred head style, 35' shaft and my 3 putters were all set to 2* loft. Other than grip style and alignment markings, my 3 putters are now setup to the same specs. When I developed tendonitis in my hands, I was able to switch putters (based on grip style) and know that was the only variable. Just knowing my specs, builds a certain degree of confidence. I highly recommend it. jbil8802
Good catch Apprenti, not sure how I missed that. I guess the SAM fitting would still be a good option. Also not opposed to a SC or Bettinardi. Guess I'll call and see what they have in terms of LH options. Bethesda Country Club has the putter fitting. Still not sure what the Edel Fitting cart has in the way of LH options either. jbil8802
Set up an appointment for a fitting on December 4th. Looking forward to it. Also set up a driver fitting for the heck of it since I've never had one. Should at least be able to try out some different head/shaft combos to see if there might be a better option. I'll see if I can take some pics and gather some info to report back with here. jbil8802
Thanks guys. I've been fitted for my irons and wedges and I'm really happy with them and plan on sticking with them until I wear them out. My driver and putter seem to be constantly changing throughout the season, so hopefully this will get me squared away and remove all doubt. I like having the variable of improperly fit equipment removed from my mind. Plaid, good stuff! Can't wait to hear about your experience at their headquarters. PlaidJacket
I've had a full bag fitting - honestly I think the putter fitting was the biggest eye opener and stroke saver. Enjoy! Hope I can say that after doing my fitting and using the putter. To be honest, I'm a little skeptical. This isn't a brag at all but I'm a good putter. I'm blessed. Ha! My putting bails me out of many a round when other parts are struggling. So we'll see. PlaidJacket
At least you either get confirmation you are or know why you are a good putter! Very true app. Here's a scary thought. What if they conclude I am a good putter but their new custom fit putter would make me even better? I'll take it! LOL I'm pretty sure I'll probably buy one. I know me. But with me thinking I'm such a bad-ass putter it will still be interesting to see and work through the fitting process. I mean, how can it not be. I've been through enough club fittings to have a pretty good grasp on the process and what is expected and what information to focus on and questions to ask. Putter fitting? This will be my first. apprenti23
First time I ever had a true putter fitting was done at Bettinardi's studio B. I saw immediate results as my gamer was a horrible fit and I was not getting an efficient roll. I was using the wrong grip and head shape as well. I had a BB24 (think Cameron Studio Design 1 or TP Mills) that had 4* loft and standard lie angle. They fit me to a double bend shaft mallet, larger grip, and at 1* loft and 2* flat. I was a scratch player at the time that only made putts when I got lucky. That afternoon at my local practice green I was rolling 15 foot putts five feet by. Instant wow factor! PlaidJacket
App... I've mentioned many times around the forum that I putt with a $39 Odyssey Wht Ice #9. I bought it one day at Academy while killing some time waiting on a friend. Prior to that I used a Ping Zing for probably 20 years. I've tried a few other putters off and on the past few years but keep coming back to my #9. Just this past summer I bought a Ping Ketsch 355 g at a going out of business sale here in town. I looked it up online and it's one of the original models with the deep grooves. Recall, Ping took them off the market because of that and reissued the putter with the proper spec grooves. It's legal but just didn't match Pings specs. Now the putter has some kind of mystical aura surrounding it. Like it's magic. Ha. It's a nice putter for sure but I've never putted as well with it. Especially on fast greens. (If anyone is viewing this post I'd make a good deal on the Ketsch. It's like new. Not a scratch.) NiftyNiblick
Shouldn't we wait until somebody finally designs a putter that actually works before we get fitted? I already know my specs for the hopeless stuff that's available now. 0 offset face balanced between 330 and 360 grams 3º loft 71º lie 34" Std. Size Pistol Grip But I'd still do as well with a baseball bat.
