I was last fitted for my irons a little over a year ago. I felt it made a huge difference in my game because my previous set was too short and too flat for my swing.

I was last fit in August 2014 for a full set of irons and wedges. Then In May 2015 for hybrid and FW metal. In both instances my improvement was very noticeable. Not dramatic especially but noticeable for sure. Mostly in shot disbursement and some added distance.

I've always been told... even by my fitter that the better the player the harder the fitting becomes. I can see that. In general there is no reason to not be properly fit for any club.

I was fit 2 weeks ago at the Titleist Performamce Institute and it was worth it. I know now that my clubs are perfect for me and my swing and I can now work on my game without questioning the equipment. I plan to get fit every time I buy new irons at least. I get on the Trackman or other monitors a few times a year to dial in the driver

Like all who have commented on here I am a big proponent of proper fitting. I am lucky that I have been trained in several aspects with different companies on it along with my experience I can usually fit myself. So I am lucky. And absolutely yes it does make a difference no matter the handicap or skill level. Now I will say one thing as ones swing improves they may have to be "Refit" later on. Now an old fart like me that has a home made swing and has been swinging that way for years the specs seem to be set except for maybe a shaft change due to slower swing speed. I actually made some shaft changes in my irons this year due to that very thing and they worked out great

I was fit for my irons in mid-summer.  The fitting revealed that the lie angle on my old irons were 4-5 degrees too flat for me.  I had known they were off, but had just lived with it and marveled at the magnificent toe-deep divots!  My fitter also had me test different sized grips with more wraps - I have pretty big mitts.  My shafts didn't change much; slightly lighter but the same kick point.

I am pleased with the results; I am more accurate, and the increased distance and forgiveness is welcome.  There is a learning curve adjusting to new distances, and I had to guard against going left especially with the shorter irons, but I expect that I will continue to see my scores continue to improve.

I look forward to getting fit for driver and fairway woods this spring!

I would love to get fit for my clubs... all of them. Unfortunately, I can't find anyone in my area that does it, and I simply can't travel anywhere to get it done where I would have to spend a night or two. I have two big dogs that need taking care of and a job that requires me to be there. If there was a place within driving distance that didn't require an over night stay or two, I'd be all over it.

Silver... you're not getting sympathy from me. Ha. Ohio is a very small state. Relative to Texas anyway. I had to drive 4 hours each way to my fitting. There were many options for me in the state but I chose the guy I did. Any of the others were of no less distance. I'd bet I could drive across Ohio in 4 hours or less.

Let me ask. Just how far would you have to drive to get a fit? I'd say just suck it up and make a day of it. You'll be very happy you did.

I'm not asking for sympathy...lol.

With all the great golf courses in my immediate area... 20 mile radius, I would think I could find someone/place that did more than just a half hour launch monitor session for $50.00. I don't call that a "fitting"... do you? Maybe there is someone/place that offers a true fitting that is close to me and I just haven't found them, yet.

Fitting is great, but I'm not sure how often a player needs to be fitted. I'm pretty sure that I know my specs.

If I buy those new Edels, for example, I'm not going for anther fitting. My specs are pretty ingrained by now.

On this particular mixed bag set, all the woods including the new minidriver, came with   old-fashioned   "wooden-wood" lie angles and were fine.  The irons (except for the Mizuno) and the wedges  all had to be bent a touch flat.

The PGA of Minnesota has a card they sell that gives you a bunch of free rounds and buy on get one rounds usually its $50 I got it a couple years ago and never used it. Now it is on sale for $20 plus the are including a coupon for a free fitting up to $150 at 2nd swing one of the better fitters in the area. So needless to say I picked that up and hope to get my irons refitted and dialed in when I bought them we just did the strike board so they should be close, but it will nice to get the full fitting done. I then will send them back into Ping for adjustments. I need to do this anyways as some of the ferules have come loose.

I got fit earlier this year for driver, fairway wood and hybrids. It makes a huge difference mentally for me since I trust what I have in the bag compared to what I had. Had some struggles with the driver and was able to go through a fitting and find something that fit my eye better and the results were night and day. The 3 wood has been a love hate relationship and I am swapping it out for the older model of the club, but that is more on me than the fitting. I thought the club looked a bit closed to me during the fitting and decided to give it a try anyway...did not work out. Hybrids fit well just going a bit heavier on one of the shafts and I will be set for the winter season. With product cycles the way they are now I would also not be afraid to try some of the older gear as it may work just as well and save you a few bucks. I ended up with two hybrids for a little more than the price of one by going with the Titleist 913 line over the 915 line in the hybrids. Performance was the same for me between the two and the 913s just looked better to me.

I'm pretty much in Nifty's camp with a caveat. Every OEM has its own "standard" so you need to convert your specs to their standard. Also you have to do periodic checks on an LM, sometimes age, injuries, weight gain/loss causes changes to ones swing.

I got fitted for irons by GolfTec in Rocklin, CA in 2012 and it was a great experience. I bought a 10 lesson package from them and used the last lesson for a fitting. I was in DIRE need of help and could not justify investing in equipment until I fixed my swing to be playable. I went from shooting in the 110-125 into the 90s after my lessons and practice, and then got fit for the last lesson.  I tried 4 different iron/shaft combos and the Mizuno JPX 800 PRO with X stiff KBS Tour shafts were the best numbers and feel-wise for me and have used those clubs ever since and have absolutely no complaints

It wasn't an issue for me because i needed all the help I could get and really trusted my coach/fitter, but it was all computer fitting and i didn't get to see actual ball flight. however, i've loved my clubs and 3 years later don't look/try other irons.

Disclaimer: I haven't had the opportunity/ability to play as much much due to having 3 kids since that time, but the fitting at GolfTec has been great for me. I think it really comes down to the fitter.

I haven't been fitted in many years, well before all these launch monitors and trackman were available. I was fitted by Michael Clark in Berkeley around 2002. I ended up getting a set of Toski irons from him. The biggest thing was finding out I needed a 2* upright lie. Made the game much easier.

I admit I was a bit disappointed as I wanted a well known set of clubs, not a brand I never heard like Toski, but that's what I hit best so I went with. It did teach me the importance of a properly fit set of clubs, much more important than the name on the head.

I'm going to look into it before the season starts again.

I can't aford new equipment at this time. I'll be looking to tweek what I have as far as maybe different shafts, length and lie angle. I would be very interested in a putter fitting and a new putter, if need be.

Hmmm this what most new golfers think, They only need to get fit when buying new clubs.    A professional fitter can analyze your swing and recommend you the specs of the clubs that would be the best fit for you.   Most of them (a fitting studio anyway and not golf retail shops), do not require you to buy anything from them.   Even a grip.  They charge you for the time you spend for the fitting session.   That should be enough.   For me personally, I recently made a swing change (better tempo and swing path).   And the fitter anaylzed my swing changes.  So I would know if my swing has improved or not.   Good fitters can fix your swing just like a teaching pro and not just selling those exotic shafts.  I would trust someone that does not work at a big OEM because they are neutral regarding their brand selection.   If you go to that titleist performance blabalbla, they only gonna recommend some titleist drivers with some titleist shafts. And I  think that will limit my selections.

Adjusting lie angles and choosing shafts and grips isn't the complete story with custom fitting, but little equipment is  offered with options beyond  that.

Face angle is important with metalwoods.

With irons, appropriate sole shape for the player is important.  That's tough to offer without custom grinding.

How many clubmakers are offering custom lofts and custom increments between lofts? Bending is a phony answer as bending affects bounce angle and center of gravity as well. The clubs must be made properly from the beginning.

I have mentioned several times that in order to be fitted to my complete satisfaction, I would have to be involved in the manufacture of the dies and tooling to make the clubs.  Give me custom grinding of the cores and custom stamping and paint fill, however, and I'll be mostly satisfied.

In my case as a senior, barring the option of radical customization, I would find it much easier to configure a playable set of vintage clubs than a playable set of new ones.  The new clubs certainly have the advantage in technology, but their basic specs and metrics are often light years away from what I like.  (I'm speaking of club heads;  assuming standard hosel bores, shafts, like grips, can be anything one wants.)

This is all without mentioning modern cosmetics which to me are usually tacky and classless.  This, of course, is a generational thing. If you grew up with the contrasting textures and loud graphics, I would assume that they're much less offensive.

Certainly custom fitting is an advantage over grabbing anything off the shelf, but in most cases, it's quite limited. I think Wishon, Henry-Griffitts, and Edel probably come the closest among familiar domestic OEMs in providing adequate customization.  Vokey wedges offer a very good choice of ready-made stuff if you don't require odd number lofts.

I'm not a new golfer, and I believe I plainly stated that I'm not in the market for new clubs. If I go to a fitter it will be to tweek the equipment I already have.

Isn't one of the great benefits of a good fitting the finding of the right shaft(s)?  You can know your loft, lie, swing weight and flex specs, but have dramatically different results with different shafts.

I've been fit for everything and noticed everything is tighter and much more predictable (wish my swing was as well). My putter fitting was stopped half way thorough as I was making everything so nothing had to be done there. Last thing I went in for was a gap analysis on my irons and as it turned out they were fine as well. One thing for me that was great, the person who does my fittings also coaches me so he knows my strengths and weaknesses and based on this I got a new this year Callaway VSeries driver head from him and swapped out the old head. This was without me hitting the head. If anyone is looking for a very good fitter I know these people and they are both world class.

The most important thing in a proper fit is to find the most efficient shaft for you- this can be different weight, materials, flex profiles, and bend points. Sometimes it's something you would never even consider. I've swung R/S flex shafts that played stiffer than some XS shafts. Finding the shaft that loads the best for you will continually give you a high Smash Factor and keep your swing in plane, this is vital to a proper fitting. Smash factors 1.37 and up are ideal on irons and 1.45 and up on driver. You'll know in four or five swings if a shaft is right or not.

Second would be head choice. Which head are you consistently getting the most ball speed out of in combination with the shaft you found. In wedges, which head will have best turf interaction with your angle of attack and for the shots you like to play. After you find the best head, dial it in through lie, length, and swing weight.

After you have irons, wedges, and driver, look at long game gapping in fairway woods and hybrids. Do the same as above. You can tweak lofts on all to fit proper gapping. If you tweak a couple clubs one degree here and one degree there, you're only moving bounce 1* so it's not going to have an enormous affect on the performance of the club from a turf interaction standpoint.

Custom Fitting with the use of TrackMan is the ONLY way to do it. Simulators and guessing on the range is the WRONG way to do it. I would NEVER get fit from anyone who doesn't use a TrackMan.
