New Hybrid Shaft Questions

Recommended Posts

Howdy All,

I have a questions about weight/stiffness combos on hybrid shafts.

I usually go with a mid to higher launching shaft and am playing the one that come with my hybrid, Aldila RIP Phenom 85S. I really like the head, feel and sound, but it seems a little loose for me. All of the other clubs i have are X flex, from Driver, fairway and all irons except for my wedges.

I don't really have the time to try many shafts, have had good results with Aldila RIP shafts, and just had a question about weight and stiffness.

If i went with a higher weight like an 105 S would that be any stiffer than an 85 X? How boardy have people found an 105X to be? Also, how to torque numbers compare to feel? I know it differs from shaft brand to brand and design to design

I know it is best to actually go to a store/range and try them, but i literally rarely ever have time. I only get to play 4-5x per year and get to the range at night after the kiddos go to bed, so the attached shops are closed.

Thanks for any leads

If you really like everything else and just want to tighten it up why go to a different weight?  Just try the 85x and see how it goes.

Looks like you can get a pull pretty cheap if you want to go that route and test out a few.

I was thinking of trying that too with the steel, or just the 85X. Anyone try the KBS steel for a hybrid?

Just went to a Diamana D+ 102x from the Diamana S+ 85x in my 913 hybrid and it seemed to tighten up my loose shots quite a bit. I prefer the heavier weight a lot and it just feels like I can take a good rip at the ball. I have played the KBS steel in a hybrid as well and that is not a bad way to go either.
