Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and share a cute story from this morning.

 

I have three children at home, a 9 year old boy and 7 and 5 year old girls.  Over breakfast this morning my 5 year old was telling my older two all about what she learned about the Pilgrims meeting the Indians and the first Thanksgiving, which was about a 20 minute explanation that may or may not have been factually accurate.  She ended her little story about the misfortune that the Indians had encountered after the first Thanksgiving and without missing a beat my son chimes in...

 

"it will end well......Daddy is building them a casino next year"

 

At about noon today my wife called to let me know that my youngest interjected and wanted to let everyone in her class know that the Indians will be okay now that her Daddy is building them a casino.  I think I need to stop telling my kids what I do for a living.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.  I leave tomorrow to spend my first Thanksgiving with my parents in their assisted living facility.  It won't be the same as mom's Thanksgiving dinner, but at least we will all be together.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! It's my first year I will be cooking, so I am a bit nervous. Have to cook for the wife's family which makes it all the more nerve-racking.

 

JMike, that is a great story lol. My 3 year old is starting to repeat just about everything she hears. I've stopped taking her out on the course for a bit for that reason haha.

In all seriousness I hope all of you get to spend time with your family during the break.  The older one gets the more important they seem to become.  I am going to try and remember that as best I can.  Time does fly.

This will be the 19th year that my wife & I have prepared Thanksgiving at our house.  It has really been fun to watch my family and friends grow up through the years.  Being an old Navy Cook, I have always prepared and sliced the Turkey. Happy thanksgiving all!

This will be the first year that we will be going out to dinner for Thanksgiving.  We are surprising the kids with a trip to Disneyworld and leave on Sunday.  No really worth trying to travel to see family with flights over the weekend.

My wife and I both grew up with huge extended families and the resultant huge holiday get-togethers that came with them. Neither of us had any siblings, however, so our two kids had no aunts, uncles, or cousins growing up except for ours, one generation removed.

Now we're seniors and virtually everybody who attended those big parties in our two families those decades ago has passed on. Some cousins remain but have fallen out of touch beyond sending Christmas cards.

We never got grandchildren from either child, and only one of them will be joining us for Thanksgiving this year as the other is committed to dining with inlaws. It will be three of us plus the dog who prematurely ended my 2015 golf season with a bite, protesting the medicine that I was trying to give her.

It's quite a contrast to how we grew up in the 1950s, but that's fine. Life has chapters and passages, very rarely remaining the same. We will enjoy our cozy Thanksgiving dinner. There are too many among us who don't even have that much.

Great little story jmike! 

 

I would join in the well wishes to everyone here.  We have a very unique family (2 biological kids, 2 adopted, tons of foster kids who still refer to us and mom and dad) we will have two of the kids, a grandchild, a friend and a couple of lonely parishioners over.  I think it's 10 for dinner but there will be others in and out to catch football or share a drink during the course of the day.

 

We are also going to try out a Foz tradition this year and have Bisquits with Sausage gravy for a mid-morning breakfast. My wife makes a good one.

No truer words have been spoken or in this case typed. For us it is just the wife and our dog and I. All of my family is gone and my wife has only her brother. But do not feel sorry for us we are going out to a friend of ours restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner. Best thing we are off work for the second year in a row. We were talking about that last night. In years gone by when I was in the towing business I had to work. I can remember 3 Thanksgivings ago I worked wrecks all day. Today we eat at 2:00 so guess what? I am fixing to go hit balls until about noon maybe play 9 while she sleeps in. Happy Thanksgiving to all of my extended family on here please be safe

I remember growing up in Kentucky when Four Roses was a rotgut bourbon......I am glad to see that Wild Turkey acquired the label and now makes a single barrel. I anxiously await trying it. My bourbon f choice is MM, MM 46, Jim Beam Black and Wild Turkey 101.

It's just not Thanksgiving without one of the funniest segments ever shown on television....

Too bad it will never get released to DVDs because of the royalties for all the music they played on the show.
