Planning any Golf Trips for 2016?

PlaidJacket

Recommended Posts

I just finished sending out an email to a bunch of guys suggesting a golf trip in April at Barton Creek Resort in Austin Texas. Last year me and many of the guys on my list took three trips. We'll probably do about the same this year. In 2015 we didn't take what I like to call the BIG one. Big ones for us have been destinations such as Pine Hurst, Bandon, Augusta (Masters week), RTJT, etc. We've talked some about going to Kohler/Erin Hills in 2016 but I'm not sure we all really want to spend that much anymore for a BIG trip. We can do several smaller and closer to home trips and still play great golf courses for much less money. And.. the travel is easier and less of a hassle.

So let's hear it. What golf trips are you planning for 2016?

Well my good buddy Josh finally talked me into or better yet I talked my wife into letting me go play the World Am in Myrtle Beach. It will be my fist time playing golf on the east coast. Really looking forward to it.

Will definitely be there in early March - but doubt the weather will be golf-able.  Hope to make it down again later in the year...

I'm headed to Florida Feb 1-13.  Hope to me several Spys.  Will spend Feb 1-4 in or near St. Augustine/Daytona Beach, then head to Orlando.  I will head over to Tampa/St. Pete to meet Rev, Foz, and anyone else that can make it (dates are flexible).

I am also considering another trip later in the year.  I usually head to Central Oregon, but I could go to Alberta/British Columbia.  Had to pass up the Minnesota trip last summer, so I will also entertain suggestions from MGS members for golf trips.

I have a couple planned.  A friend from my home club here in Virginia has retired and bought a second home in La Quinta, CA.  He's invited three other couples to join him and his wife for a week, January 16-23.  The temperatures here are finally falling, it'll be nice to get to a warm dry place in a few weeks.

I'm also going to Ireland in June.  I had intended to go for a week, but my wife suggested that since I'm turning 60 this year, maybe a second week is in order.  So its us and one other couple, two weeks, 8 rounds of golf from Ballyliffin in the north to Waterville to the south.

Welcome to the forums!  I had my left knee replaced two years ago November.  Should have done it sooner.  Keep doing the therapy, even longer than they say.  It really does make a difference.  I like the Palm Springs area and try to get there every once in awhile.  Nice courses.

I organize a 24 man Buddy Trip every year for members of our weekly game.  We have been going to Kissimmee, FL where we get a 4 bedroom house with pool for each foursome and play two golf courses(Remington & Kissimmee Bay). I plan on visiting my sister in Lexington, KY in July where I can play the Pete dye Kerney Hills GC, just 3 minutes from my Sister's house. I also have a week in Hilton Head with my wife(non-golfer) and another couple(both golfers) in late September. We usually play Shipyard and the three Port Royal courses.

It's a dry heat!

So is hell, but not on my list of places to plan a golf trip.  Go outside of Vegas and head to Tahoe or Reno in the summer and play then head back down to the Valley and play in the fall.

Right now in Vegas it is 43* and windy as can be.......and I am playing 9 at Wynn in an hour.

You want to play in hell, head up the road to Death Valley.  Furnace Creek; lowest golf course on the planet; short course, but it's 214 feet below sea level.  Right now, it's probably pretty nice.  It was 126* when I was there.
