How'd Your Bets Go?

PlaidJacket

Recommended Posts

I've started this year; 2016 - keeping a running total of my bets. Win-Lose record. I've never done this before but I think it'd be interesting to see where I shake out. I've played three rounds this year and so far i'm up $10. (one round I didn't have a bet) Perhaps it might be interesting to see which guys around here win... or lose the most in a season. Pretty unscientific for sure considering some may bet more or less on a particular round and there can be many different bets at one time or another. Skins, nassau, junk, points, etc.. Anyway. Maybe we can see at the end of the season Dec. 31 2016 who are the sharks and who are the minnows.

So today I'm proclaiming with my +$10 to be the leader. I'm scheduled for a round later this morning and we'll probably play a $1 skins game.

Have not been able to get any money games on the course, but killing it in the sports books in Vegas so far this year.  Nice continuation of last year that was jump started by 25:1 odds on Speith at the Masters.

I got my A$$ handed to me Friday. Lost $19. So... as of this morning I'm down $5 this year. Played much better yesterday (no bets) after that disaster on Friday. Today I'm planning to play with bets so we'll see.

Came back today with a 77. Just me and a buddy. We played match play $2 front/back with $4 for low total score. Also threw in 50 cent junk. Birdie, greenie, sandies. I won $9 total. So... I'm back in the black at +$4 for the year. heh!

Won $55 today. 2 weeks ago, won $25. Up $80 so far in the 2 rounds I've gotten to play this year. 3 more birdies today (of 5 opportunities) and a couple carries. That's 6 birdies in my last 2 rounds with 11 opportunities thus far this season. Doesn't hurt I've been putting well. Swing never felt right all day but managed to score some

The weather was beautiful, 70's and Sunny and Windy 20-25 mph.

Greens were incredibly fast having been sanded, swept, and double rolled this week. Most of the guys missed putts going 8-10 feet passed the hole, and the pin placements were evil.

But, still managed to not have any 3 putts. Hit 13 fairways, and 10 GIR and WON $170.  I lost control of the ball on just 3 holes, and had the greens been a touch slower, I would have scored even better. Total pot was $210 so I cleaned up.

Shot a 76. But based on the conditions that was great. I had an eagle, hitting 2 iron 230 cross wind to 6'. And a couple of birdies, but had more 7 birdie opportunities under 10 feet I missed. And had a double bogie when the bunker shot hit the lip and bounced into face.

I smoked my irons today and yesterday. But yesterday was team play. Won $50.

We generally have two bets. A skins bet. $10 buy in and pot divided by the hole winners. And either a team or individual handicapped score.

I have not played well enough to be the big winner for a year and a half it seems, but usually my short game and putting is good enough so that I have just about broken even. Irons first yesterday, and driver and irons today gave me a lot of scoring opportunities. Especially long irons.

Glad to see a few others posting this topic. I'd have to say that RR is leading the money list so far this year. I don't know what your buy-in's are but based on your totals you are up +$220 this year so far. RookieBlue in second with +$80 and old Plaid at -$8. My win/lose numbers are net.

Seems like you guys play for more $$ than we normally do and that's ok. Our standard game is a skins with a $20 buy-in and then make any individual best as you like.

I wonder if there is a way we can post and update our winnings/loses for the season? Some sort of spreadsheet were each person can update their own totals as the season goes along? That'd be cool.

Glad to see a few others posting this topic. I'd have to say that RR is leading the money list so far this year. I don't know what your buy-in's are but based on your totals you are up +$220 this year so far.

Buy ins are $10 each bet, usually two bets; a skins game and either team or quota based on modified Stableford and normal play. So including Friday it could be $60 per weekend. Teams we try to divide evenly and count the best balls out of the team. 3 man teams are best two balls. 4 man teams best 3 balls, etc...

I have not played well, not concentrated well or made good swings, but my short game has always allowed me to win enough holes to break even for the past year and a half. Things that were distracting me on the course, life off the course, started coming together last week. The week before was the one weekend this year that I did not break even and was down $40.

However, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I had all three rounds in the 70's. I made a minor swing change, and dropped the FM's and Hybrids in favor of the long irons. The wind and greens were tough but I hit every par 3 and par 5 in regulation this weekend and had an eagle and several birdies.

So based on these last two weekends, I was -$40 after last week. I won $50 on Friday, $170 on Saturday and another $57 on Sunday. ($10 per team @ 3 teams, and 3 skins at $9 each.) So $277 and $60 buy in plus my losses last week leave me $177 up for the year.

I will note, that being the big winner and three rounds in the 70's drastically effected my "Quota". Our official rules say that we only adjust the quota 2 points at a time per week for going over, and every two weeks for going under. I had dropped from a 30 points (par is 36) to 22 (86) and barely got it. It has been frustrating to play so poorly for so long.

They decided this week that in my case I was back to my form of 18 months ago and immediately increased my Quota to 30. This means a score of 78 is required to even reach my quota. I am back to having to shoot 75 to have a realistic chance to be the big winner. If I can keep hitting the ball like this weekend, there will be more wins in the near future.

Even better, I have never hit as accurate from long distances as I was on Friday and Saturday. Sunday, I was a bit off with all the irons initially, but hit the driver well, eventually got the irons back.

Played 6 man wolf on Friday, in spite of shooting a 76 I still lost $8. Every time I made a bogey someone on the other team made a par, and one guy had 4 birdies and was usually on the other team.

As an aside, over the past few weeks I had 6 rounds where I hit every par 3 and par 5 in regulation, and was below par on them.

On Saturday, this streak  came to a screeching halt as i missed all of the par3's and a couple of par 5's. However, my 46-36 was enough for my team to stage a come from behind victory and I won $55. This was sort of funny in that my 46 on the front caused my team to trail by 7 holes at the turn. My 36 on the back help us win by 3. Some of the other team was not happy about this, but that is another thread unto itself.

Today. I had 4 birdies and an eagle, but 4 double bogies and a 74. Oddly enough I did not win a skin for the eagle, as one of the other guys in another group also made an eagle. He made his the old fashion way by hitting his second shot close and making the putt. I did not reach the green in two, but pitched the ball over the bunker and it fed down to the hole. I played it that way but I got lucky and hit the perfect shot. The ball broke about 20 feet into the hole. But my team beat one team and tied the other and two of my birdies held up so another $70 today.

Weekend total, -8 net sum, - 20 buy in, +55 winnings, -20 buy in, +70 winnings total of+$77 for the weekend and +$292 for the year.

I have a standing $1 Nassau with one of my buddies.....this week I shot 41/43:84 to his 42/42:84, so we were even. In my regular group we play a $1 round robin plus $.25 dots for skins, birdies, par 3 greenies and sandies. Saturday I won $6. Today, Nobody got the first 3 greenies so all 4 were riding on the final Par 3. I hit the middle of the green and two putted for par, giving me and my partner 4 dots for the greenies plus one dot for winning the hole. Ended up winning $2.

I'm not a big spender on golf betting but I'll play once a week with my grandfather and his skins group. They play at a quarter a hole and a quarter on par 3 greenies, if I had to gestimate id say when I play well I come out winning 4 or 5 holes (normally the par 5s and longer par 3s) so maybe 5 or 6 bucks in change. Enough for a whataburger lunch on school/work days lol.

After this weekend I'm +$20 for the year so far.

I broke even on the skins buy-in Saturday and won $12 on side bets. On Sunday had winnings from a combination of skins and Nassau's and won $16. So I'm in the black for now.

Had Denver and the under last night at a book in Vegas which both paid well for me.  Getting more snow today so golf is not going to happen anytime soon so I need to pass my betting time elsewhere.

Skins is where the money is, it's easier to win the birdies than it is to win the game. We have a few really high cappers that always shoot a couple shots under their cap and usually win the game, when you get 28 shots and shoot 95, you net 67. Hard to lose there. I haven't kept track of all my bets so far this season but I am think I am up about $15 so it's not horrible.

Trying to go play later today. Only thing I don't like is the group id be playing with today plays for anywhere from $5 bets with trash to $20 a hole with validating birdies (have to par of better the next hole). I generally win money by piling birdies in the round but the validating sometimes hurts me as I sometimes have an ABFU. I'll ask what kind of game they're playing today before I decide if I'm going or not

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.

I'm going into the weekend up $20 on the year so far. I'm keeping a spreadsheet at home too. It'll be interesting to see where I end up at the end of the year. I'm going to guess that I'll be up but not by very much. However, if I could hit a good run for a few weeks that might carry me for a while. I'll surely hit a slump or too along the way.

This weekend I'll play Saturday and Monday.  $$$$$

I used to play in our mens group at my club. Bet was a dollar. Pool was divided between low net foursome and individual skins. Most guys had hc of 18 - 36, but they made us all add 1 stroke anyway. As long as I was the passenger in the cart, everything was fine. But if I drove, I had to keep score. First, I had to ask each guy of our foursome his hc that day. Then go thru the scorecard and mark dots for the number of strokes each guy got on each hole. Each hole I had to ask each guys score, whether it was gross or net, then figure it on the card. We usually kept two cards to keep it straight. After a few holes, we'd compare scores of those two scorecards. Usually they were off. So we'd go over the scores, hole by hole, then golfer by golfer. After the round, we'd go into the clubhouse and wait for the last group, unless we knew we wouldn't win AND none of us had a chance for a skin. There was so much math and back and forth on the course, the last thing I'd do is get a yardage and pull a club. After a few rounds like this, I told them I didn't want to keep score. I wasn't alone. I know you betters have fun, but I would rather enjoy my golf. Needless to say, I'm not a member anymore, and enjoy myself immensely now. More power to you betters. Cheers.

We have started using Golf Game Book for our Skin game. Currently we might have between 8-10-12 players. Each player is exposed for $20. As the round progresses you can see what the other group is doing. I like that. Skins that are won appear as they happen. When the round is over you know exactly who won a skin and who didn't. You can also setup other bets as well.

Sounds like a great solution. Like I said, other members didn't want to bother with all the arithmetic on the course, and I am sure a number of us wondered about the accuracy of the winning scores. Your app sounds perfect.
