Dustin Johnson Going to Nike?

Secret Tour Pro put out on Twitter that DJ was spotted using the Nike Vapor Pro and Nike VR Pro Blades with Nike Vapor Drivers and 3 metal. Last year he told us who was all going to be on the PXG team so should be pretty reliable.

I have figured for a while that taylormade couldn't afford the big 4 they have and that Nike would most likely be the company to get one of them because of their deep pockets.

gotta agree, he fits the profile and they have the money. You never know maybe a change in gear is what he needs to bag that first major. I know the Nike putter has helped me a bunch lol.

I don't think it's just the athletes but it's also guys who are very good and do win. DJ has won a good amount and always seems to be in contention.

Its all about the money for DJ but not for Nike. I'm with Theo, their staff is small but good. A lot of young talent there and DJ would fit right in. Ppl always talk $hit about Nike but what if they sign a guy who has blown some majors, switches to them and finally closes one. All the sudden their now the company who fixed the guy. It would be a genius move on their part.

I agree with you. It's definitely a good move on their part. I'm a fan of Nike Golf even though I don't game their clubs. They have a great lineup of guys. They have the pockets for it and if they pay him enough he'll make the switch. He's Dustin Johnson, he'll play well regardless of what manufacturer's clubs he's playing.

I'm serious, watch him switch to the Nike putter and tap in that last putt for a major and demand will skyrocket! Undershooter30 has it right

I'm not sold on that yet. I play a fair amount of golf with many different people. I've only played with one person that had a Nike club in their bag. A set of Slingshot irons. Again, not a knock against Nike in any way. Just my own experiences so far. I hope to see a lot more of their gear in bags in my area in the future.

I don't game any Nike stuff as of now but I have and their stuff is good. The only thing slightly lacking is their driver tech. Irons wedges balls are all there. Metal woods are just shy. Not awful but not all the way there. Ppl don't play Nike bc they are stubborn. That's all. Fit me for a fully nike bag and I'd be the same golfer I am today. No doubt in my mind.

I don't think switching woods and irons will be a big change for him. He need to find a putter that he doesn't lose confidence in down the stretch that will be the big difference. I don't remember his ball striking letting him down its almost always the putter.

It makes sense but really has no impact on my game or buying choices. I continue to enjoy seeing Callaway guys and gals win using someone else's golf ball. Now that's fun. :)

Jack was my favorite player ever and I never considered MacGregor. I loved watching Tiger and have only even demo'd a Nike club once, I think it was the Sumo because there happened to be a demo day at the range that I went to. If there is one thing I've learned its that there are some great golfers on this planet and I'm not one of them.

However I do find a certain level of verification knowing that the brand of clubs or ball that I'm playing is being used on tour.

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

I'm sure they'll be filming some pretty cool commercials with the two longest drivers on tour, Rory and Dustin. It's definitely an awesome lineup for Nike now and especially when Tiger makes his come back.

Maybe this will be the jump start Dustin needs to win a major!

He will switch because financially it will make sense for him, the reason he hasn't won a major yet has to do with the space between his ears. Not the clubs in his hands, Until that gets fixed he won't ever win a major.

He also needs a new caddy. Having your brother on the bag is cool but that craps for pro ams. Not real tournaments.

Yep, caddies play a huge part in your success, just ask Adam Scott, he won 2 times early in the year then dumped his caddie for Stevie at the Masters, haven't heard his name since.

I think he'll fit their more relaxed look they have been going for. Not a tmag hater by a mile, but their stuff is going more conservative than Nike's. I like their balls, since Bridgestone makes them I just decided to get Bridgestones

Good call on the effects of him winning a major!

I would find it hard to believe because DJ has been with T-Mag since the CCU days because they are a supplier to their golf program. But still money talks I know.

I am probably going to ruffle some feathers here but I will be blunt and this is only my opinion. Everyone that has switched from Cameron to Nike putters in recent years their putting has went to crap. Tiger, Rory and Suzanne Pederson are 3 that I know of. Of course even from the early days DJ was a streaky putter and I have met and talked to him several times even before he was rich and famous and I am a big fan. DJ is such a good ball striker that he can hit any kind of club made effectively just his putting has always been suspect. If he and Sergio could putt decent no one out there including Speith or Rory could beat them because both of them are great ball strikers.

If DJ does make the change he may be the first in history to go from a Cameron putter to a Nike with good results.

Rev you do not know what you missed not playing Macgregor back in the day (LOL) I am talking like real Macgregors not that crap Golfsmith has stamped "Macgregor" today. Of course if you ever desire to hit real ones you know the source for real ones --Me---- LOL again

As far as what equipment Pros play on tour does not influence me in the least I play what works for me and what I like--- I mean no one on tour plays 30+ year old irons and Srixon Soft Feel balls not even on the Champion's tour. I do for now have two current tour clubs in my bag a Titleist 915 D-2 driver and a Scotty Newport or Santa Fe putter ( depends on the putters on how I feel that day) Oh I do have two new Hopkins wedges (I traded for) and VJ plays them when he plays I reckon

that's the way it should be but you'll always have people who play clubs just cuz their favorite pro uses them. Normally have no business even touching that club either.

Maybe the swoosh makes a good coke spoon. ;)   I keed, I keed.  I'm sure from the club perspective he would do fine w/them.  Seems like the big adjustment when guys at that level switch is the ball.  Nike, if I remember correctly, wants all their staffers to play a Nike ball.  I bought a dozen of the Nike RZN Blacks a year or so ago and they were a big improvement over the first generation RZN's which weren't very good IMO.  I really haven't tried any of their clubs but I'm sure they're fine.  Wedges look a little funky tho.
