sp0rtsfan86
While in Vegas, it hit me. I've had a bunch of ideas about golf bucket lists (play at St Andrews and in Ireland for example) but wanted to do something different. I've decided to try to play all the TPC' courses I can in America. So far, I'm only two in, but going to add a third in the next few months. I've really enjoyed playing different courses and it always gives me a place to play whenever I'm traveling (as long as it's not private.) I'm just wondering if anyone else has goals like this or if anyone has any off the beaten path suggestions for other golf challenges? Kenny B
I probably have played the same TPC courses that you have... Vegas and Scottsdale. I've played Scottsdale 5 times, but most of the TPC courses are way out of my allowed golf expenses. Scottsdale was $57 and Vegas was $80 (because it was July!!). Remember, I also have to pay for my wife to play, so double the cost. Jax was kind enough to offer to get us on at TPC Sawgrass for only $250 each, and while that may be a good deal, we can play a lot of golf elsewhere for that $500 round. I'll play high end courses if I can get on at a reasonable cost, but I've found that there are courses that are just as nice, challenging, and fun to play for a lot less money. I'll keep traveling and looking for those deals. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
westy
Ah the course bucket list, great stuff. Trying to see off the top 100 in the UK - making progress, but slightly limited opportunities to get on some courses. In October playing St Enedoc in Cornwall with some old friends, this one makes the world top 100 in some lists - but if it wasnt hidden at the tip of the country I don't doubt it would be higher. I cringe at the thought of paying hundreds to play a round of golf, there's probably only a few courses I'd consider doing that on - Pebble Beach, St Andrews, valderama and maybe a couple more. Mind you if I wasn't a public servant maybe I could swing some business meetings to coincide! GolfSpy Barbajo
I've played TPC Vegas many times - and TPC Harding Park once. They're among my favorite courses to play. I keep getting emails from TPC Twin Cities, so they had to be in the list for this summer. revkev
Let's see I've done TPC Scottsdale, River Highlands (it's been redone), Tampa Bay and Sawgrass. Foz come on man - TPC Tampa Bay is a walk in the park compared to Bayou. In all seriousness I think TPC Tampa Bay is the most under rated course in the Tampa Bay area if not the entire state of Florida. It's challenging, it's pretty, it's always in good shape and it hosted a Senior/Champions Tour, Tour School stage, US Open qualifying, Senior Open Qualifying - what else do you really want? It's better than Doral, Bayhill or some other courses that often make our best course lists IMO. sp0rtsfan86
Vegas was fun. I actually grew to like that a lot more the second go around. Scottsdale was still a lot more than I was expecting. TPC West is on my list next, followed by Sawgrass. Dumb me I missed two golden opportunities to play there when it was under 200 a head. Apparently, the normal cost is $350 and you have to have a forecaddie. Since Jax is a member, you don't need the forecaddie, so it's $250. If it had been just me, I probably would have played it, but the extra $250 for my wife just made it a little too much. She told me that when we play expensive courses (and by that she means anything over $100 each), she doesn't enjoy it and usually doesn't play well, which makes her feel worse. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
revkev
Just playing 17 at Sawgrass is worth $250. Hitting it to 15 feet while everyone in your group knocks it into the water multiple times (including one of the assistant pros) is priceless. Kenny B
I can do that at Coeur d'Alene Resort for $75 on hole #14 and get a boat ride to the green and a cookie. http://www.cdaresort.com/discover/golf/floating-green They can move the green to change the yardage. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
