Rife Legend 2 Bar Putter

Hello All,

 

First review here and its for a putter that's been around a few years and can be picked up for pretty cheap these days. The Rife Legend 2 bar putter. I know MGS did a review on this but I wanted to add my 2 cents.

A little back story, I've been using an Odyssey White Hot 2 ball Mallet for a few years now and have been completely content. A frequent playing partner bought one of these and the site shipped him 2 and instead of paying return shipping gave it to me for my son to use. I decided to give it a few rounds myself as I really like the look of it.

 

Looks:

I love the look of it. I like the alignment tools, black finish is very clean and appealing to me. I love using the bars as a putt alignment tool. It took some getting used to coming from Odyssey but after a few sessions on the practice green and a few rounds I think I actually love the bars as an easy tool for squaring.

 

Feel:

I was initially worried the face grooves would impact the feel of the putts, but after hitting about 10 putts I discovered that I think they truly help the feel. The putts come off nice and solid with no altered spin or impact, it just feels pure. It also allows more feel to my miscues.

 

I would in comparison say it feels softer than my Odyssey and I enjoy the feel a little better. Weight wise it feels slightly lighter than my Odyssey but not much. (After a few rounds I ordered the Rife weight kit and definitely like it heavier.)

 

Performance:

I wanted to give it a fair test against the two previous putters I had used, my Odyssey 2 ball and an old Cleveland Classic Blade I purchased around 2012.

 

Per my stats on the Grint i'm averaging 30.8 putts per round (1.71 per hole), but that also has to take in to consideration my GIR #s aren't as high as i would like(about 45%.)

 

I hit 6 balls each from 6 ft, 12 ft and 25 ft in two separate rounds. First round using ProV1x and Second using Callaway Chromesofts. I wanted to see how ball feel was impacted by my two preferred.

 

Round 1-ProV1x (total distance from hole,avg distance): 

Odyssey: 

6ft: 20" (Made 2), Avg 3.33"

12ft: 41" (Made 1), Avg 6.83"

25ft: 67" (Made Zero) Avg 11.16"

 

Rife:

6ft: 21" (Made 2), Avg 3.5"

12ft: 38" (Made 2), Avg 6.33"

25ft: 41" (Made 1), Avg 6.83"

 

Cleveland:

6ft: 27" (Hit 1st ball significantly short (11"), Made 2), Avg 4.5"

12ft: 46" (Made Zero), Avg 7.67

25ft: 79" (Made Zero), Avg 13.17"

 

Round 2 ChromeSoft Truvis(total distance from hole,avg distance): 

Odyssey: 

6ft: 18" (Made 3), Avg 3"

12ft: 44" (Made 1), Avg 7.33"

25ft: 61" (Made Zero) Avg 10.17"

 

Rife:

6ft: 11" (Made 4), Avg 1.83"

12ft: 28" (Made 3), Avg 4.67"

25ft: 35" (Made 1), Avg 5.83"

 

Cleveland:

6ft: 17" (Made 3), Avg 2.83"

12ft: 51" (Made Zero), Avg 8.5"

25ft: 79" (Made Zero), Avg 11.83"

 

 

Now I understand that this only reflects on my putting ability and ball preference but 20.91" overall avg on my 2 ball to 14.5" avg with the Rife you can see why I decided to make the change. The overall feel and touch it allowed me to have really boosted my putting confidence. The biggest difference by far was from 25ft+ I had a much better feel on pace and felt like I got a more consistent roll (as the numbers definitely show.)

 

Conclusion:

I really enjoyed this putter, I enjoyed the feel so much that I actually replaced the 2 Ball in my bag. I played about 40 rounds with it before my son found out it was for him and demanded I get him one. 

 

So I ordered another one for him and also a 

 

Rife Titan Z(http://rifegolf.com/store/#!/~/product/category=4250009&id=24162709) and have about 4 rounds on it. I will do a review on that after I have a little more data. 

 

I had Zero experience with Rife prior to this but was very pleasantly surprised and am looking forward to trying some of their other products.

I thought so too when I first saw it. It's only a couple ounces lighter but I do notice it in the swing. I especially noticed during the test when I made so many swings with each. I did the test after a round and it was noticeable from the getgo.

Who is carrying Rife now? I heard they went belly up. The Legends2 is a clean looking putter. I have several mallets as well, most are 365+ gram weights. Nice review.

Rife is still privately owned, they were brought out of bankruptcy by some investors a few years back.

Nice review! I like the testing methodology you used. I may have to try one of these out as cheaply they can be purchased now.
