I've recently had an injury to my neck and upper back due to a pulled muscle and a pinched nerve. (see post: Knocking the Rust Off) After several weeks not being able to play I was mad at myself. I believe my injury was preventable. I have not been stretching any. I'd gotten lazy. I'm also no spring chicken but at 61 I'm in pretty good shape generally speaking. During my time away from the game I kept telling myself that I'm not doing this again. I'm going to start stretching regularly. Also during this time I kept seeing on TV the ads for the Teeter inversion table. I'd not given any thought to something like this before. That is until now.

Well, I bought one! I've been using it now for about 4 days and it feels great. I'm not writing an ad for this specific model. There are many inversion tables on the market to choose from. I just happened to pick this one. And it's a good one too. Well built, etc. While lamenting my not being able to play and seeing the commercials on TV I thought this made sense. Like many of you we sit way too much during the day..... compressing our spine and other joints. An inversion table decompresses our spine and more like the hips and shoulders. And it feels good. You can look it up and read about it.

Granted I've just started using mine and can't say it's done any good or helped (yet) but I think it certainly will. I'm using mine in the "beginner-mode" right now. That means I'm not going totally vertical. My incline is set at about 30% of fully vertical right now. I tried as much as 60% but it was a little much starting out. The maker of my device claims 60% inversion is considered enough to get full benefit. I'll work up to it. I've been using it twice a day so far. Anyway.... I thought I'd let you guys know about my experience. Anyone else out there using an inversion table?

I'll follow your progress.  I looked at one about 10 years ago because of my wife back problems, but she had an L5-S1 fusion that took acre of most of her pain.  About that time my doctor said that I have degenerative disk disease, which is medical speak for old age.  haha!  I looked at the Teeter and thought it was a good idea, but never pulled the trigger on it.  So, I'll let you be the guinea pig!  Looking forward to your review.

I have one.  Looking to sell it.  Compression isn't my issue.  No problem using it, just didn't have any effect one way or another.  But for those with disc problems, I understand that these work wonders.  Doesn't do much for framen problems, unfortunately.  If someone wants to pay the shipping plus $50, I'll have one your way immediately.  PM if interested.

Update:

I've only been using my inversion table for a week. Perhaps I'm a little premature making this post with so little time using it. By that I mean my back feels better overall. I still have some soreness in my upper back/shoulders. I think I'm still nursing my recent injury a bit and have latent soreness due to that. What I've noticed most is in my lower back/spine feels better. Decompressed if you will. I do a lot of sitting during the week working at my computer and hunched over paperwork. I've been using the table each morning and early evening for about 2 minutes each time. I only invert about 60* which the Mfg. claims is plenty to gain full benefits. I'll probably never go completely vertical. One thing that has also been noticeable is in my hips. I'm sore in that area which tells me I'm getting a good stretch. That alone will probably help my swing and rotation. I plan to keep on using it.

This type of product probably isn't for everyone. Younger guys for instance that are not experiencing any muscle or joint problems. There are others where this type of device might not be recommended. I will make one suggestion... if you decide to buy this particular brand (Teeter) purchase the optional handles or get the model with them. I'm sure it would make returning yourself upright a little easier. Either way... this is a quality product with many benefits and I will continue using it.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a Teeter table also. I used it a lot from Sept to March.  I did a lot of crunches and inverted twisting. The only thing I don't like about it is everything falls out of my pockets, if I didn't empty them. I was told I have degenerative arthritis in my lower back the inversion does not do much for that but I like the stretching / hanging part.  I was just using it an hour ago because I hit a ton of practice balls today.

In My Bag

Driver TM 9.5 Burner reg shaft.
