TT Dynamic Gold AMT versus DG Pro shafts

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I picked up a mint set of Titleist 731 Phil Mickelson limited edition lefty irons 2-PW with S400 shafts. I'm a 12 HC with a swing speed best for regular shafts (75 mph with 7 iron)

I don't like the feel of the S400 shafts. The seem heavy and stiff as a board. I hit the PW to 8 ok but start loosing distance from 7-4. The 3 and 2 irons are very challenging to hit off the turf. Very low launch and short.

I'm thinking about switching to either the R300 AMT or R300 DG Pro shafts. My goal is to get a flex that fits my swing speed better and increase distance ball launch angle on the longer irons.

Anyone have experience with those shafts?

Thanks! 😊

The dg pro is what I have in my vapors and it works pretty well. It's slightly lighter then the normal dynamic gold and throws the ball a bit higher but otherwise performs a lot like the golds

Both shafts will help to some extent in getting the ball to launch higher with the longer irons.

The AMT is basically a variable weight shaft that reduces in weight the longer the irons get, effectively making them lighter to swing and hence generate more swing speed.

The DG Pro is also a variable weight shaft, but it also has a variable kick point in the set to make them "flighted" - higher launching with a low kick point in the longer irons.

They are both good shafts, but they aren't really suited to the novice golfer or someone with a slower swing speed - in any flex. They are what are generally considered as mid to heavy weight lower launching shafts. Feel is of course subjective, but they do tend to feel like the original DG shaft...

DG S400 is certainly a pretty stout shaft as it is, but it isn't really suited to a slower swing speed or a player with a moderate tempo and early release. To be honest, the 731's aren't really suited to a 12 hc either.

My advice wold be to seek a professional consultation of what you want playability wise and look into various options which would suit you somewhat better.

Thanks guys! I bought some used DP Pro R300 shafts off eBay today.

Jas - I also have a set of AP1s in keeping with my high HC and need for game improvement equipment ;-)

I got the 731s from the goodwill for $100 2-Pw, 56 and 60 wedges...and a bag. Lol Thought I'd give them a try since my budget is more in line with goodwill than custom fit.

Anybody want some cheap S400 shafts? 😊

Yep, good work on the DG Pro - The AMT would have increased launch a bit, but more as a product of the decrease in weight - whereas the DG Pro will have a more pronounced change in ball flight in the long irons...and yes, I'd love some DGS400...
