Over the long holiday weekend most Americans will celebrate the freedoms bestowed upon us by the Declaration of Independence. From the 13 original colonies to these United States of America, our shared history has been a nearly 250 year timeline of triumphs that have often come at great cost. My family makes a point to both embrace our freedom and revere those that have placed themselves in harms way to guarantee it.

 

I'll be hosting my parents for 10 days of golf, BBQ, fireworks, National Park tours, live music and reverence for what July 4th truly signifies.

 

I would love to hear how my fellow Spies will be celebrating our Nation's independence.

I will most likely be having friends over for some grilling and other shenanigans. Maybe let the ladies hangout while the guys go play a round. Then we'll end up watching fireworks. A small town near us has one of the best shows around.

My club had a big fireworks display Saturday for members and family- it was better than the cities show last year. I'll be doing a fourth tournament tomorrow- should be fun

Permit me to echo your words.   I must admit to a certain good fortune being a native of Virginia and a product of Mr. Jefferson's University on this special date in our Nation's history.   The Virginia Declaration of Rights as written by George Mason formed the basis for Mr. Jefferson's drafting of our Declaration of Independence that created our nation and Mr. Madison's Bill of Rights attached to the document that formed our government.   Let's remember the words of John Hancock as he signed the Declaration --"And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our LIves, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor".

 

Yes, while we should enjoy this holiday in celebration, let's not forget that our freedom has not been free and the price that many have paid over our history to assure that our nation remains what some have labelled "the last great hope of mankind.
