revkev
With the confluence of the tragic flooding out of the Greenbrier this weekend and the premier Women's major I'm wondering how many MGSers will watch the Ladies. If you plan to what would it take for them to sell you on their game and get you to watch more? My experience backed up by available data is that most guys grossly over estimate their game and nearly as grossly under estimate that of the LPGA. For example of how good the Players on the LPGA are I've spent the past year at a Golf Club where Brittany Lincicome is also a member. She's around the 20th ranked women's player in the world. She plays from the tips on a course that is 7100 long 75.6/148 oh and a sea level. Her handicap for rounds posted at our club varies between +2 and +3. Another words she'll kill you at any distance you'd wish to play from and if you gave her enough chances she'd eventually make the cut at a PGA tour event. And there are women out there better than her (though only a couple with her length) So what do the gals need to do this weekend to make you a fan? I'm inviting you to watch them. Let me know what you think. PlaidJacket
I watch the LPGA off and on or it's a major. There's plenty of talent out there for sure. I especially like the smoothness of most of their swing. I wish I could emulate it more often. Like Rev said... we tend to over estimate our game. I found out the hard way this past Saturday. I under estimated how bad I am. But I proved it to my playing partners. LOL Yeah, I'll be watching them this weekend. BigtazzGolf
I'm sold on the LPGA and will watch it. I learn more about course management from watching them than the pga. And I love how they interact with fans. The guys are getting better but still lacking in this area compared to the ladies imo. Kenny B
I always watch the ladies play whenever they are on. I've been to two LPGA events, both majors... their PGA at Sahalee a few weeks ago and the Kraft Nabisco in 2007 when Morgan Pressel won. They are very good players. The top golf coach in my area said he has a student that is 15 years old and can drive the ball 271. revkev
We came off the course right after Ko's double and watched the back nine from the clubhouse then drove home and saw the playoff. What a sad ending. No doubt it was the right call. I'm wondering why they couldn't get them that ruling sooner. It was obvious, Fox had it right after the tee balls on 18. It would have been nice if both players had known at that point. If not it only seems fair that they should have been told after Lang's third shot rather than before giving her that cha pence to bail right. BigtazzGolf
Boy I felt bad for Anna, truly a classy lady. Handled the situation very well. As for the USGA, I'm on the fence as to them doing wrong on it. I'm not sure they could have informed Anna any sooner than they did. Yes, we saw it on TV before they tee'd off on 18 if I remember right. But how quickly did the official get the video and then decide? And that lady for the USGA needs to go or stay off the camera. That was pathetic. Her name is Brittany not Bethany. Kenny B
I'm not on the fence. Big fail again for the USGA. Maybe they got to the players as soon as possible, but either tell Anna before she hit her 3rd or wait until after Brittany's 3rd. They influenced the outcome in favor of Brittany, and she even said so in her interview. On a side note, there seems to be a flood of "Join USGA" ads on GC lately. I wonder if there has been a lot on canceled memberships. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

revkev
I dropped my USGA over the grooves thing and will not go back. That decision proved that they are protecting the game for the top .01 percent of players and the OEM's. I know that I'm going to hear otherwise but I was shocked when I finally got into irons/wedges with the so called new grooves - didn't really find much if any difference. It seemed like a scam to line someone's pockets and it clearly hurt the average player. The same holds true with the belly putter. These two ruling fiascos are more of the same old, same old. If they want to preserve the integrity of the game how about they and the tours getting together and developing a clear rule about the use of video replay during tournaments. There is no doubt that a rule was broken but it took an HD video slowed down to see it. I'm going to go out on a limb to say that Anna did not gain an advantage (the reason for the rule) either by an improved line or sense of the sand's firmness because of her actions - that's the point of the rule - to prevent gaining that advantage. The actual penalty assessed amounted to 3 strokes not 2 because of the way in which the situation was handled. Just get us a clear rule on the use of video replay. Is that too difficult? Kor.A.Door
It was an exciting finish, I have a different opinion on the tell or don't tell and when to tell. They made a decision and had to tell the players, hey did not wait to tell either player, unfortunate as it was for Anna, the timing was that Anna had already played her next shot, and Britany had not, if they knew they were going to assess the penalty, and waited until Britany hit her shot, and she put it in the water, I say that would have been unfair to her, it unfortunate that Anna played the shot already but you cannot fault the officials for telling them when they did, the timing didn't happen as the viewers wanted, but that's golf. By the same token it was unfair to Anna not to tell her before she hit her shot. Had she known she might have made a decision to try and hit it closer. By telling Brittany before her shot she was able to make a decision to hit a safer shot. So if you're not going or are unable to tell Anna before her third shot they should not have told Brittany. Had Anna known it is very possible she could have altered her strategy for the third shot. Brittany knowing definitely changed her strategy - she said as much after the round. chemclub
I'm not really a letter of the law kind of guy, more of a spirit of the law. I will admit that the USGA was well within their rights to assign the penalty. According to the letter of the law Anna deserved it, but come on! The spirit of the law has the intention of not improving your lie or testing the sand to get a sense of how to hit the shot. According to the spirit of the law I don't think she deserved a penalty. You could literally count the grains of sand that brushed her club. I understand the rules say she should have been charged a penalty. Time to change the rules. Forget tradition! The NFL is great because they are constantly tinkering with the rules to make the game better. Kenny B
It would not have been a penalty before the advent of slow motion technology. Even zoomed in at normal speed, it would not have been noticed. So 10 years ago the outcome could possibly be different. That being said... today it was seen and therefore it is a penalty. That's not the issue, is it? The USGA blew it in the timing of the announcement by getting it out of sequence. Anna did not have the opportunity to try to recover while Brittany had the opportunity to play safe for the win. In the big game the referee does not influence a game's outcome in the final seconds if it can be helped. The USGA picked the worse time to inform the players. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
