Well I was waiting to see if anyone was gonna set one of these up but I guess not so I figured I would. So lets talk all things Open Championship. Who ya got this year? You think one of the "big 3" take it or does DJ keep his hot streak going? Or... Heaven forbid does a darkhorse rise to the occasion. 

 

A short history of Royal Troon

The course, which took its current form in 1888, is designed in the traditional out-and-back manner of the Old Course at St Andrews. A gentle opening few holes and relatively straightforward closing stretch are the bookends for a series of holes which weave up, round and through some of the most striking linksland to be found at any of the host venues.

This character makes the strength and direction of the wind even more important than is usual on a links course: if the wind is against the players on the back nine, it's as tough a finish as can be found anywhere.

 

Lately its only Americans who seem to take the title at troon. I believe the last 5 opens held here have been won by an American. Tell us what you think!

 

 

 

More interestingly... Does MGS' W.A.M. rankings hold up for a fourth straight major title? I know this it already has me questioning 1 spot on my fantasy team this week!

I do like Grace alot. He was in my lineup well before the MGS article came out, as was some other in there. The big thing for me is its very hard for me to put Day and Scott in but leaving DJ (the hottest player on the planet) off. Wish I could just play those three with Grace and leave the bench off of it all together haha.

If Rory is on his game, I think he's the guy. I like Branden Grace and Sergio, too.

I agree, he hits the ball too high for the wind and weather conditions they'll be dealing with

JDay I would imagine will hit a lot of 2 irons off the tee to stay lower. He can hit his 2 iron over 300 yards so he still won't be lacking in the distance category

He even hits his 2i high as hell. If he is pulling 2i when Rory and DJ hit driver he's giving up 50-70 yards.

Honestly my head says Scott and my gut says Rors Thanks to the soft conditions. $5 says it's prolly none of above lol.

I am going to take the other, it seems to be a straight hitter that wins at the open, left and right here does not allow you to win. So whoever keeps the ball on the fairways and greens the most often will win. Not sure who that will be, but the big 3 or 4 don't do that very consistently, so that will cost them here.

Well we are off! I've been watching since 530. I'm on coffe number 2 and have to leave for work in half an hour or so but have the app downloaded.

 

The course looks magnificent. In regards to trajectories I would remind everyone that Nicklaus and Watson were high ball hitters who rarely varied their shot shape and they did okay in this tournament.

 

I'm also getting tired of hearing the big three talk. No one ever called Faldo/Seve/Norman the big three nor should they. All were contemporaries and all had Hall of Fame careers. When/if Rory notches a grand slam and one of the other guys gets on the cusp while the other has 3 or 4 majors we can start talking big 3.

 

Can't we just live with the fact that there are more very good golfers right now than I can ever remember and because they are scattered around the world we get to watch them nearly 24/7?
