BombTech Grenade 72° Wedge

Just got an email that they now offer a 72° wedge. I thought I was a little crazy when I first ordered the 64° PM grind. 72° though? What do you guys think?

I saw that when I was looking at their Grenade Wedge package. 72 is a bit high for a committed club. Flop shots at that angle are "in case of emergency" situations for me.

High lofted wedges (over a 58) are the bane of the average golfer.  They are different animals that require practice to properly manipulate.  I watch guys do all kinds of crazy things with them. 

 

My advice on this would be stay away - if you are skilled enough to play it you're skilled enough to take a 60 and lay it open.

A 72 degree wedge is just a novelty.  Something you take the range and make your buddies hit just for fun.  You're more likely to knock your teeth out with the ball than you are to hit the shot you are actually trying to hit.

No interest. I can nearly hit the ball backwards with my 58* if I really wanted to. Just gotta open it up. 62* or 64* would theoretically go in the bag for me in extreme situations but those haven't occurred as of yet or at least so far.

I would think anything in excess of 62 degrees is pretty pointless. Unless you have a phobia of seeing an open club face.

If I am close to the green but there is a bunker in-between, I could easily hit a 72* wedge into the bunker.

You nailed it there Rev my sentiments exactly. I do have one of those 71* cheapo "American Open" wedges I found on the scrap pile at work. It stays at the yard and I mess with it for kicks and giggles hitting it off of concrete putting balls on top of one of the huge scrap piles. Messes with some of the guy's minds because they skull everything they try to hit with it

Correct it is a fun club to mess around with but personally I can not see enough use to take up a club spot in my bag
