Favorite club for your 2016 season

... Lots of stuff to like this season but one club really stood out for me. The Cobra King Utility with a Rogue Black 85hy shaft. Mine came straight from Cobra so it has the white/black shaft Rogue, not the all black shaft. I have it set at 19.5* after playing a few other lofts and settled on this loft and have not changed it. Produces a nice mid high flight I can also hit low if needed. 

... The King Utility has become my go to club off the tee and I can hit it 230-240 and occasionally when I am not trying to, I'll hit it even longer. It is extremely accurate and has a great feel. I have played the Srixon U45, TM UDi and Wilson FG Tour Utility and for me, the King Utility has a better, dense forged feel, is as much or more forgiving and the most accurate of the bunch. What surprised me was how easy it is to hit off the turf and even light rough. I use it on par 5 second shots as well as into strong winds on long par 4's.

... My Nike wedges may last another season before the grooves give out but with a new season coming up I know I will at least be replacing my 588 TT's with a set of Srixon 565's. My Cobra driver will take something special to unseat but who knows what will come out this winter. Virtually everything in my bag is replaceable with the exception of the King Utility and my BB2 putter. If you have't hit the King Utility yet you really need to demo one if you like iron like hybrids or just a more forgiving long iron. 

... So what one club stood out from the rest for you guys this season, especially one you didn't expect to be so exceptional?

I would have to say my new 915 D2 driver. I thought nothing ever could replace my beloved Hathaway Custom but it did. it is long and a fairway finder for me great combo. Now I did some bartering and ended up with a brand new Nike Vapor Pro it has the same shaft as the 915 ( Diamana 60 R) and I can flat crank it but I can not keep the ball in 3 fairways with that darn thing. The only reason I keep it around is because it has the same shaft as the 915 and you never know

... I hear ya Stu. My F6 just works for me. Picked up a M1, Aeroburner and King Ltd but the regular ole Cobra's are the longest and straightest drivers I have hit. Sounds like the 915 D2 is the same for you. Nice.

The real standout in my bag has been the Adams Super LS 22* hybrid- technically a 4i replacement but i hit closer to a 2-3I distance, its been a real work horse from every lie imaginable and any shot that's been needed. I just haven't found any other hybrid I like as much as it.

My favorite club has to be my PING Rapture Driving Iron. It is like my security blanket. Can bang it off the tee or work it off the fairway both ways when going at a par 5 in 2

The real standout in my bag has been the Adams Super LS 22* hybrid- technically a 4i replacement but i hit closer to a 2-3I distance, its been a real work horse from every lie imaginable and any shot that's been needed. I just haven't found any other hybrid I like as much as it. 

 

 

... Thanks, fixed the date. Amen on the LS!I have tried to replace my 19* Adams LS for a few seasons now. The white paint is chipped, green grass gets in the slot and it can be difficult to remove and the head gets green stained while playing. But I haven't found anything longer.

I agree on all fronts, Adams is gone unfortunately. A shell, I am glad I picked up a bunch of different hybrid heads though

My favourite club for the 2016 season would have to be either the Cobra Kind LTD driver, Callaway XR16 fairway or my Callaway Apex hybrid. 

 

The first 2 bag would be in my bag at the moment, were it not for a general lack of funding on my part.

 

I love the ease of use of the King LTD, the smashability of the XR16 and the control of the Apex (that's why I bought it!).

 

I'll be keen to try out the new equipment from Mizuno which will be coming out in the nest few months.

But the Titleist 816 H1 23 degree hybrid has been my money club all year.  Also have a 21 degree, and thinking about a 19 and 27.  LOL

Well, since I just started using them, it has to be the Ping G irons I was fitted for.

My driver has always been hit or miss, been playing Tour Edge Exotics drivers for a while. This year I got a Callaway Big Bertha VSeries and hooked it up with my constant companion an Accra TourZ shaft. Never been a long hitter (short game is what I rely on) and usually get 250-260 carry but now I hit the fairways fairly consistently and can move the ball at will. Very pleased and confident now.

I'll go with my Cobra driver. Tried the XR-16 and never quite got as good with it as the Cobra. For now the Fly-Z is my weapon that I have the most faith in, even though it's an older model. (Not that anything is wrong with gaming an older model)

Only a few months ago I had my fitter/builder guy make me a Wishon PCF Micro-Tour 60* wedge. It's been a game changer for me. Like my other Wishon wedges (52* & 56*) I can play the 60 from any lie anywhere. What I enjoy about this club is the ability to open the face without raising the leading edge. I have two other PCF wedges in my bag that are also a joy to play. As they say, Whatever works.

After we had the discussion Saturday I got a phone call from a guy that runs a golf shop and sells used clubs. Ended up doing a deal with him traded him a new maybe hit 5 times Cleveland 50* wedge for an Adams Fairway wood that I would call a 3 wood @ 15*. It has a regular Basarra (spelling?) shaft that came stock in it. It is one of the newest ones with that slot in the top. It sat good in the shop and I Immediately liked it. That thing is a Rocket Launcher!! I like it so much that I have him trying to find me a 21* hybrid or a 21* 7 wood like it to replace my aging V-Steel 7 wood

One of the practice ranges near me has a small shop attached, last time I walked by I noticed a bag with a couple of new Adams Super S or Super LS hybrids or fairways. I think the guy was asking $50.

Best thing I've purchased this year and that has helped improve my game a lot is a set of Cobra F6 irons ... love 'em!

 

Most useful thing I've purchased this year is a Tour Edge 1-Out 58° sand wedge - I totally *suck* in the bunkers and this thing ... though it looks like a goofy training aid ... has a super wide and super rounded sole, plus extra weight (D8!) and it's really helping me.

 

Most interesting gadget I've purchased is an Izzo Swami GT which is a combo GPS plus Game Tracker (comes with a set of RFID tags you screw into the butt of each club) - tracks each shot and your score, gives you some stats at the end of the round and you can upload your rounds to a web portal and review an overlay of your shots on aerial views of the course.

 

Clips to your belt so you don't have to carry or look for it, and good for people who don't like to wear watches.

 

Just got it so haven't had a chance to use it on the course yet.

The Adams Pro Hybrid replaced my Super LSP's.  They are every bit as good, and they're black so no worries on discoloration (yes, those stay dirty for some reason, lol.  I feel your pain).

 

For me, this season, my 18* Adams Pro Hybrid has stood out for me.  I've been absolutely MAULING it lately.

My Super LS 17° is a monster. Thinking about finding a 15° to go with it. Also- my XTD Ti 23° fits nicely where my 3h would have been, but I don't know if they made one in 15° (or thereabouts)...

The club that has made the most impact on my game in 2016 has to be my Bridgestone JGR driver.  I purchased it based on the comments made during the MGS visit to Bridgestone Golf in March.  I got a chance to try it out against my SLDR and it was a "no brainer'.  The SLDR was fine, but I was looking for more distance, and what I got out of the JGR was more distance and better accuracy.  I am not one to miss many fairways, but the JGR goes where I want it, unless I make one of my stupid swings of course.

All last winter I kept waiting on the price to go down on Cobra Fly -Z 2/3 My buddy told me to just buy it already .... I'm so thankful I did.... My baby has got me out of SO much trouble ..... I currently have it set to 18.5, but I was at 16.5 earlier this year. Switched lofts because my 3W is dialed in too at 15

My G LS 10.5 with KK 60x tini has been my favorite club in the bag. Long and straight and nothing else I've tested has been able to knock it out of the bag. At 41 I've hit some career long drives and seldom miss the short grass. My Cameron X7m probably comes in a close 2nd. With the tour SNSR pistol grip my putting has much improved this season!

Earlier, I said it was my Cobra F6 9 iron.....but then I bought the Cobra F6 Baffler Fairway......The first time I hit it, was off a Tee and i skyed it....making a skymark on the head....I then just hit it off the deck and Wow! the 16* setting got me straight out to over 170 yards.  Now it gives me a great weapon in my bag that I can count on...

Oh, forgot to mention - if it's ok to have more than one new fav - also purchased a pair of DST swing trainers that have been IMMENSELY helpful to me in improving and smoothing out the swing :-)

For me it has to be the putter that has been in the bag all summer. Finally found something that I can truly roll well and it kept me from buying more putters. I have only bought one after it and it was a custom that was too good to pass up.
