8th grade boy set help

My son is about 5'2" 100lbs. Hasn't hit that first growth spurt yet or gotten that natural push of strength, etc that normally comes for 13 year olds. He wants to play golf in high school. I want to get him a full set he can use for a year before his high school season starts. Am I too early on this knowing he may hit that spurt? Looking for input from anyone that had gone through this or knows someone who has. And with that, what clubs and flex recommendations do you have?

Cobra used to have a program where when you could buy a set of their clubs for a kid and then trade up to the full sized set once they outgrew them. I wonder if they still do that

My son is 10 and about the same size as your son (and yes he is big for his age). I got him a set of US Kids Tour series clubs this year and they are great quality clubs. He has a full set with Driver, 3W, 3 hybrid and 4 - LW. The price was not a killer and with it if he can get two or so years out of them.

... Just about impossible to anticipate growth spurts. My son slowly gained size and thru his Jr year in high school at 6'1" and 185. Shot up to 6'3" and 225 to start his senior year. Different sport, but we paid for personal LB training in the off season, a position he had played since the 8th grade. He was moved to DE and all of that was money wasted. 

... At least with golf clubs you can simply change shafts if the growth spurt hits sooner than later. Good luck!

There are some teen boxed sets from Wilson and tour edge that might be a good start at a good price. Even some ladies sets might not be a bad option. The height should be close, maybe a ladies petite depending on the company because they are all different lengths.
