Yep. I went to school in Daytona. I know several that have been forced out and a few that stayed. As a meteorologist this is an interesting storm. Could double back and hit Florida again. It's actually happened before where a storm loops back, so I'm interested/worried to see what happens this time around.

Thanks guys-- We had prepared to bug out and the van is still loaded but it has turned from us thankfully and we are only going to get a tropical storm which we are prepared for with plenty of drinking water and food. We also have a generator and several sources for cooking food including a wood stove with plenty of dry wood.

Wow that is interesting you being a meteorologist . I had noticed that it may double back and now they are saying it may meet up or collide with another depression forming east of us. We may go through some of the very same crap next weekend

I feel somewhat guilty, as I live on the western side of FL where I am preparing to run a two day, 45 man tournament Sat & Sun.  While the play will be pretty sloppy, the forecast for Saturday is windy with 10% chance of precip and Sunday is windy and 0% chance of precip.

I am very concerned for those who live on the Atlantic side.

I hope everyone on the southeast coast is safe.  Hopefully the golf courses don't get too much damage either!!

I'm waiting to hear from jaxbeachpackerfan.  Looks like his area will be hit pretty hard.

Yeah, we don't get hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes...  just the occasional volcano eruption!

We don't get much rain here east of the Cascades, but the dust... blowing dust, especially after the farmers have plowed their fields.  I have seen winds in excess of 70 mph.  On the mountain outside of town, they have recorded winds in excess of 150 mph.  Nothing up there but sagebrush.  But I feel very lucky to live in an area where devastation doesn't happen very often.

I know a little on that I was out there right after one of the volcanoes blew up I was part of the trucking end bringing relief supplies. EDIT my wife thinks we were out there after a major forest fire what ever I remember ashes being everywhere

That's a long way to come to provide relief!!  Much appreciated.  When we went golfing last month at Circling Raven in northern Idaho, we met a fire crew on their way up from California.  That's a tough job!!!

Yes, we do get forest fires in the northwest every summer.  Not in my immediate area, but the smoke from fires 100's of miles away can be very bad for people with breathing problems.  About every 7 years we do get a range fire that burns the tumbleweeds and sagebrush about 40 miles outside town, but that only lasts for a day or so.

Jax said he's doing okay. So that's good news. It looks like Daytona to Port St Lucie got the worst of it. We didn't have a drop of rain and we are only about 90 miles from JMike

Thanks we were in the area any how we did not come all the way from SC. In those days the company we were leased to was a govt contractor too and we pulled Heavy Haul heavy equipment and such on a low boy. So we got put on standby and got an assignment just like the Police,Fire and National Guard. Hurricane Hugo I remember well we were in the Midwest I think in Iowa empty. We were diverted to Columbus Ohio to a big Government warehouse there. We loaded 5 big military generators and took them to the Charlotte NC area which was good for us because we had a house In Rock Hill SC at the time and my MIL lived in Mooresville NC. Ended up helping the National Guard there by delivering the generators for them to 3 stops when our original paperwork just said to deliver them to the Guard base at the Airport. Did not mind it a bit. The Guard CO let me leave our trailer at the base to bob tail to go check on my MIL and our property in Rock Hill

Great story!  How ironic that you were not in SC during Hurricane Hugo; and I WAS!!  I was working at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken.  The plant shut down that Friday and to make up for it, we had to work on Sunday.

Thanks guys! Rode out the storm in our 8th story, 1/2 block from ocean condo (being naive transplanted northerners). Due to the storm veering off, we emerged unscathed thankfully! No damage whatsoever to our building and no flooding in our immediate area. A few blocks south, the dunes breached and there was some minor street flooding, but no one forced out of their homes. The people that fared the worst were those who had trees fall on their houses and those living on the intracoastal--some areas there got flooding from the storm surge going up the intracoastal. We did lose power for a day, internet and cable for three days, and TPC Sawgrass is still closed (they say they have some more work to do to insure that no trees fall on people!). Off in 20 minutes to golf at an inland course, fresh with my new MLA Tour X-dream putter that arrived yesterday!

Nonchalant putts count the same as chalant putts.

Having made the drive up the coast from FL to NC it seems that GA and SC got hit the worst wind wise. We cut inland to the mountains before the flooding in NC. It was hard to find a hotel the first night though. They still weren't letting people back to Myrtle Beach on Saturday. :(
