What winter project this year?

Recommended Posts

I like to tinker with golf clubs and guitars and am always looking for projects to keep me busy at night once I get the kids to bed.

I found these Macgregor CB92 heads, a full set of 1-PW in great condition that I thought would be a fun project. I remember these came out when I was in high school and really wanted them. Could never afford them then, so finally snagged a set.

Really cool design. Forged, super small cavity, might as well call them a blade. I love the gold diamonds on the face. I actually found some NOS MacGregor diamond ferrules from the later 1025 irons to use with this build.

I'm thinking of shafting with some TT Dynalite Gold S300's as they promote a higher flight than Dynamic Gold's which will probably be helpful with these heads.

It will be a fun project for the winter and I'll have a set of irons I wanted when I was 17, but could only dream about.

What projects do you guys have planned for this winter?

Nice irons! I'd like to find a set of the vip blades myself! I always have tp mills or scotty cameron putters in the works, and i am thinking seriously about refinishing my king ltd driver head this winter.

I save most of my club work for the winter so I have something to do. I'm gonna finish shafting a set of Callaway Diablo Forged irons with KBS Tour 90's, and find some heads for a set of Nippon 950GH's I have.

Funny the coincidence of this. a friend on another site sent me a pristine set of 80 VIP blades that are just like my worn out ones I have played on and off since 90. They have the stock Brunswick shafts which are now too stiff for me. I am doing some blueprinting on those. I am also building a set of Nicklaus Muirfield blades that have been rechromed and have my worksheets on them already started. That will be enough for me to do this winter.

Sound sweet Stu. Love the old Macgregor stuff. Keep us updated.

Me too. Would love to get a hold of the early 90's VIP blade remakes, like the Curtis Strange models. Really nice.

Was looking at your signature and those forged KZG cavity backs are one heck of a club! Anything KZG makes is top notch stuff. And Miura wedges wow!

I built the set of KZG cavity backs last winter. Incredible clubs. They are probably the most underrated irons on the market. They are Kyoei forged and very high quality. No chance if them coming out of my bag anytime soon. The VIP's will just be a fun second set.

The Miura wedges I got used for a song, couldn't afford them new. I'm just a sucker for high quality forgings. Maybe I'll do a WITB later today.

The VIP's are similar in shape to the KZG's, but have a shorter blade length and smaller cavity.
