Liberty Ball Markers
How do you guys have your wedges set up? I have been using 48-52-56-60 vokey sm4's for quite awhile. I had a fling with scor's for a bit, but I'm back to the vokeys. I never have thought of updating, because these sm4's still control the ball like they did in 2009. Anyway... I'm thinking of trying to simplify and go 48-54-60. Am I crazy? I play more by feel and consider each club to cover a range of distances, and I think that I can still overlap with less clubs. Anyone else doing this? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy http://www.instagram.com/libertyballmarkers/ http://www.birdie-bomb.com
Philly Golf Guy
I have my lofts set at 52-56-60 and it works well for me. hckymeyer
You need to ask yourself some questions before deciding. Does going to a 3 wedge setup give you room for a club you need? If not then there isn't a benefit. If it adds a club you want at the top end. Then does having that club at the top let you shoot less than having an extra wedge? I'm all for unconventional setups, but the conventional wisdom says more clubs from 150yds and in than 200yds+. So just ask yourself if having 3 wedges instead of 4 will help you shoot better scores. If yes then go for it. If no then stick with what you have Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Driver: SLDR w/ Fujikura Ventus Black 3w: '16 M2 hl w/ Diamana D+ 82 5w: Launcher HB w/ HZRDUS Yellow Hybrid: 22 deg. Liberty Ball Markers
The 48 is my pw. I use the 52 for most anything 100 yds or closer, even greenside chips. I'll flop with the 60 and use it in the sand more than the 56. I guess my point is, the 56 doesn't see much action, and maybe going with a 54 would smooth out my gaps. I guess I won't know until I try it. No need for a longer club or anything like that - I also cart a 3/4 wood around that hasn't been used in over 20 rounds. Kenny B
My SCORs are 46, 50, 54, and 58. I also have the 42 as my 9i. The 54 and 58 are both used from sand, but the 58 is used much more around the greens. I will either chip with the 50 or 58 depending on length of chip. I rarely hit full shots with either the 54 or 58. “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
deejaid
What are the bounce of your wedges? Does your 56 and 60 have similar amounts of bounce or are they different? I've been going 48-52-56-60 myself and I've realized that with both my 56 and 60 being high bounce, I just use my 60 all around the greens including bunkers and haven't really used my 56 at all lately. Maybe instead of going 48-54-60 right away, just drop the 56 and go 48-52-60 and see if you miss it. I am all for having as many scoring clubs as possible but I'm also a walker so I'm always looking for ways to save weight in my bag. WhiteChocolate
I use my PW (47*) for 100-125 and I have been using a 56* w. 14 bounce for everything else. I carry a 52* but don't hit it very well (thinking about switching to a 50*) and only use it when I am right at 100 yds and a perfect lie. They have dual grinds so I can play open closed or neutral real easily and that gives me a lot of options between those two alone. It hasn't hurt my scoring up to now so I haven't really felt the need to get an extra wedge but that doesn't mean I won't eventually. fozcycle
I have been gaming the SCOR's 41*, 45*, 49*, 53* & 57*. Then, I got the Cobra F6 irons with a sensational Gap Wedge 50*, so I modified to Cobra F6 45*, 50*, then SCOR 53*, 57*. However, I like d the Cobra Gap Wedge so much that I ordered the Sand Wedge 55* with the same Matrix graphite shaft. My new config will be: Cobra F6 45*, 50*, 55* then I will take the extra club and put a 21* Hybrid in the bag. I may go back to the SCOR wedges 9i won't ever count them out), but I just had to see if the Sand Wedge that matched the F6 irons is as great as the Gap Wedge.... Liberty Ball Markers
I'm looking at a similar theory, going with pw, blending the gw and sw with one club, and lw. There was a time when I took the lw out because it wasn't behaving, and I survived. I currently have the 3w in time out as well... so I'd be looking at 12 clubs in the bag, but no sense toting 2 clubs that don't get used. Golfspy_CG2
I have 50,54 and 58. The 50 and 54 have relatively low bounce .08 and the 58 has 14 with a K Grind. it has been fantastic out of the bunker and even with that high bounce I've used it on some short sided shots here I'm maybe 10 yards off the green and only have 10 feet or so of green to work with. deejaid
I used to play a Hogan 6004 lob wedge, 60* with 4* of bounce. It was not an easy club from the rough or sand, two places I really wanted a lob wedge. My Miura K Grind is 60* with 13* of bounce and I use it anywhere around the green with much better results. The added bounce and the grind make it a great lob wedge. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy WITB: Stan Thompson “Reactionizer” persimmon woods 1-4 Spalding Tour Edition 3-PW Spalding Top-Flite E.V.A.
