Brjpool
I've never bought components to have a club built before. I really like the bombtech driver head, but think i would like to buy the head and have it fit for a shaft and grip of my choosing. I've been custom fit, my current driver is a 12, reg flex, i love it but think i could gain some yards by dropping to a 10.5 and could keep control. What are thoughts or advice for buying components for clubs? hckymeyer
Unless you have accounts with the OEM it's hard to order just a head. Usually I'll just find something used and then pull the shaft and sell it to recoup some of the costs. You could always try calling them and see if they will either sell you just a head, or build it with the shaft you want. I already know i can just get the head, the bombtech grenade head is the one I'm considering Bryan Pool Ping G20 Driver Bombtech hybrids Ping G20 green dot irons/wedges Cleveland Huntington beach 6 putter
hckymeyer
If you can already buy just the head then I'm not sure what your question is. hckymeyer
Just depends what components you want in the finished product. If you are happy playing the shaft that comes with a premade one then go that route. If you are going to swap the shaft anyway and it will be less expensive, then head only is a great option. oldfashionedcowboy
The Bombtech is a bonded hosel? Right? How much are you going to be pulling the shaft and changing them out? Seems like a lot of work and stress on the shafts. Not sure this is the right move. I have 5 shafts for my M1 that will be given a run up to next season. But it's super easy to swap them out on the range. You and me and the devil makes three... I have heard great things about the driver head but alot of people seem to change out the shafts after buying the driver. I didn't know if buying the head and buying a shaft separately was a good way to go. I've heard great things about the M1 too. jaskanski
Whichever option you choose, do it the smart way. Before you buy - make sure the components are suitable. It's no good buying a 10.5 degree head if it does not give you the correct performance figures. If you've been fitted before with a 12 degree head and a regular shaft, it is unlikely that dropping the loft is going to help you out at all. So get fitted by all means, but don't go down the route of buying something and then trying to justify your choice by trying to make it fit afterwards. Try first, buy afterwards - it's a simple rule of thumb that will keep you from making bad choices. Secondly, listen to your fitter. Don't guess your own fit, ask the expert instead. How do you know that a 10.5 Bombtech head with a random shaft of flex, weight, length and profile unknown is going to be any good?
oldfashionedcowboy
Sorry, I guess I have an answer to a question you didn't ask. The answer to buying components vs an assembled driver is it depends. I bought an M1 head for 200 (looks brand new) and an Ahina shaft for 65 shipped. I also have an S+ that I got for around the same price. So, if you go used then yes, it's definitely cheaper. However, if you buy new then there is no question to just buy assembled. Manufactures get big discount on shafts. Both shafts I mentioned would retail new, north of 230 bucks! But in the M1, it would be 399 to buy everything new. So, used if your manufacturer doesn't supply what you want in stock options (or no upcharge) but used maybe the way to go if you know why you want. You and me and the devil makes three...
