brianhorne8
Hello everyone! I'm a longtime WRX member, but have always read MGS and felt that the reviews/data was much better than anywhere else. I'm not sure what took me so long to start participating in this community, but am really looking forward to the conversations and hopeful playing partners this place bestows. I'm not really sure what else needs to go here, so I'll just blab on about myself for a paragraph. I'm a video production/motion graphics guy who used to work in the NHL with New Jersey and now works for U.S. Soccer primarily (freelance, former full-timer). As a result, I get to travel around the world for work, which is nice...but it eats into any quality time I might have practicing, so my rounds are rather hit or miss. I took the plunge this time last year and worked with a fitter here in the Denver area to get my bag straightened out, so I'm feeling more confident than ever, even if the results aren't showing due to lack of regular time on the range/making full swings. My bag looks like this: Driver: Cobra Fly-Z Plus 9° Fujikura Motore Speeder 757FW: Cobra Bio Cell 3/4 UST VTS TSPX Silver 8Hybrid: Cobra Fly-Z 3/4 UST VTS TSPX Silver 100HSIrons: Mizuno JPX 850 Forged 4-PW KBS Tour SWedges: Mizuno S5 50°/7, 55°/9, 60°/6 Blue Ion Steel KBS Tour X 120)Putter: Odyssey Dual Force 222 (16 Years & Counting)Grips: Pure P2 Wrap BlueBall: Vice Pro Plus I'm currently blasting my driver way right, albeit predictably. I love Cobra stuff, but I might end up switching back to my backup Powerbilt AFO DFX that I picked up last year. Great head, but I traveled a bunch this year and was so worried TSA was going to break something that I wanted a driver with a removable head. In retrospect, a terrible mistake, even if I like the Fly-Z+. I'll probably also switch over to the Kirkland balls if I ever get a Costco membership (or get my friend who works at Costco to pick them up for me). Only time will tell... If you want to talk soccer or hockey, feel free to chime in here. Otherwise, I'm pretty stoked to finally add something marginally meaningful to the community! Thanks! I noticed your signature and all Titleist. Had a chance to hit a 915 D2 today while perusing a local Golf Galaxy. I had never swung one before, but loved the sound/feel, and they had demo 915 D2s for sale for $180! I almost bought one, and am seriously considering it if they'd be willing to maybe do a like-for-like swap with my Fly-Z+...
brianhorne8
Welcome from the Pacific Northwest! Glad you joined us. Loved playing in the Denver/Boulder area, but don't get there anymore. Can't beat the extra yardage you get up here. Where in the NW? Hoping to make my pilgrimage to Bandon next year, but we're having baby #1 in May, so it might have to wait.
ole gray
Welcome aboard Brian and looking forward your forum participation! It always makes me wonder when people join a forum and then just disappear. Maybe they are shy which is cool and maybe they are strictly readers which is ok too. It's always good to have active folks in the mix. brianhorne8
Woof. Long time taken off from here...and I probably should have titled this thing differently. I think it's only relevant about a month out of the year as it stands. Quick rant on Cart Path Only: There's nothing more detrimental to pace of play than CPO. Even if you hit it in the fairway, all the guesswork of clubs (and you should have a good idea of what you need if your carts have GPS) slows everything down. If your cart doesn't have GPS, what do you do? Bring five clubs with you each time? I know I'm over-thinking it, but I've never had a great CPO experience. It just feels like it rushes you because you get out, walk to the ball, hit, then have to run back to the cart to keep pace. Rinse. Repeat. Just walk instead! MDGolfHacker
I'll take a few clubs for a range of shots I might hit from where I see the ball as well as my laser or range finder. Most if my rounds are with a cart and if it's CPO, chances are your going to slog through all the wet stuff as well. Everyone will be CPO so take your time without being slow and hit your shot. brianhorne8
Yeah. I agree. I'm not a slow player at all. We had a weird round that was only made worse by CPO though. The group in front was tragically slow, then would randomly quit each hole, so the group behind us only ever saw us on the hole. We tried explaining, but I don't think they understood, as they started hitting into us on #17. CPO made it a lot worse just because of the amount of time it took to get to/from the ball. Seriously a weird round. This foursome (and then twosome after a pair dropped out) would hit 2-3 off the tee, hit second shots, and then just either pick the balls up or leave them. I've never seen anything like it.
