The Nakashima has been defeated...

It's over... Done... The experiment is finished... My Nakashima has been officially defeated and is on her way out of the bag for good. Sometimes great relationships just have to come to an end. It's time to let her fly and find another owner.

I picked-up an M1 recently through work, just for the heck of it, and the darn club beat out my gamer I was fitted for. The final determination was made this weekend when I was able to get on a launch monitor at my pro's indoor location. I put the two drivers up against each other and I just can't pass on the increased accuracy and better numbers.

It's hard to do as I have a one-of-a-kind Nakashima staff bag, but when I'm getting 6 more yards of carry and 9 yards more distance and hitting the fairway, I just can't keep trying to make it work... I just have to break-up. "It's not you, it's me."

The numbers below are the M1

That's tough because I know how much you liked the Naka, but the M1 looks like a real good fit.

So true.

Totally shocked me... I did not think the M1 would come close!

Here are the first two sets of five hits.

First pic is of the Nakashima, second is of the M1 numbers.

153 ball speed average for the Nakashima below, 156 for the M1. In the five pics posted above, the M1 ball speed average is up to 157. 3-4 MPH is a BIG difference at my swing speed!!!!

Looks like with each driver you hit up on a couple and down on some others. Either that or you had a couple of heel and toe hits. It's always nice to have the numbers to back up a good decision!

Gotta go with what's best for your game, even if it means breaking up with the Nak... Same shaft in both heads? What shaft? Just wondering..

Different shafts... Aldila Silver 110 MSI 70 X in the M1 and a Fubuki Alpha 70 X in the Nakashima. Both are the same length and are "low launch/low spin".

I still have one of the older Naka drivers that I got a few years ago at Goodwill for $2.99 that had some awful senior flex shaft in it. I ended up putting one of my few remaining Pendley Stiletto shafts in it. Talking about a rocket! Only problem was that I cold bomb it but could not keep it in 3 fairways. I also had it jacked to 47" long. Fun driver for the range to play with and to use on the 2 scrambles I play a year. Ended up pulling that shaft because I did a trade deal for my remaining 3 Penley shafts. I still have that old head in one of the file boxes with other driver heads. Yep those Naka heads were hotter than a firecracker but I think newer technology has taken over some now. That head I have is about 10 years old now

Before finding my current gamer, the Callaway XR16 Sub Zero, I had similar results, but could never get past the fact that I just don't like how the M1 or the M2 feel when I strike the ball. I hit the M1, with the right settings, just as well as my Sub Zero (maybe even a tiny bit longer), but I don't think I would enjoy playing it as much.

I'm right there with you on the feel. Even on the longest drives I've never had that, "Oh, man! I KILLED that one," kind of feel or sound. That's the ONE thing that kept me wanting to stay with my Nakashima- feel!!!!
