I'm thinking of either torching or painting my own putter. I have several of them and figured the bad winter weather is a perfect excuse to experiment with a DIY project.

My goal...is to either paint a putter head black...or torch it black. All the DIY of torching I've seen leaves a very uneven black color. Is there a way to ensure a solid black look rather than the rainbow look? Has anyone had success at doing this?

I'm thinking of doing this to a PING ANSWER putter head.

Any suggestions or pictures is appreciated.

Torching and stayng with the heat, and heating evenly will produce even colors. Lots of times people do torching and quench in oil to try and replicate the oil can look. If you want black, simply torch it until it's glowing all over and keep heating. Let it cool and it'll be black.

All three of the following are torched finishes:

love this look.

so, heat it up, and no need to quench in oil or water?

You can quench if you'd like. I don't because the rapid cooling hardens the metal, think case hardening.

Hey Guys, i just found a Acushnet Bullseye heel shafted putter on the used rack for 12 bucks and i am thinking if trying to refinish it. Being that it is Brass ( i think ) can i do an oil can finish or torched look? What other options might i have? I am already doing a White Powder Coat on an old Ping Anser that i have, so i don;t think i want to powder coat this one.

any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You can torch the crap out of it, about the only change you'll make is that the putter will get hot as all get out.

so if i torch it and then quench it water or oil, it won't really have any effect?
