the problem becomes 2 fold in that people will be putting up their own commentary and speaking when they shouldnt be, and 2 the major networks will scream that these unauthorized webstreams violate their exclusivity deals.
Id love to see the tour take the lead and create a special app where they can have the patrons shoot video up to their website, get advertising dollars to keep everyone happy, and broadcast it live on their site throughout the world.
think about how great it would be to follow your buddy in each group via a webstream? years ago it wouldve been unheard of to get the stats of each shot hit, yet ShotLink was created. I think this takes what they did with shotlink to the next level.

The other regulation that nobody is talking about is that currently, the PGA Tour has all kinds of restrictions on "internet coverage". Basically you can't do anything that looks even close to live "play-by-play" either via text or video. What are they planning to do when people are tweeting live results from their cell phones on the course? Or as Manavs brought up, broadcasting live video? That would get your credentials revoked as a member of the media.

Just got back from the Northern Trust Open at the Riviera. Fearing having to go all the way back to the car on the shuttle or worse, I followed the restrictions.....no phones and no seats and once I got inside what was EVERYWHERE? Everyone had phones and chairs!! I was very dissappointed but since this was my first it wasn't a big deal. What they really need to do is control the drunk or pompus jerks up in the booth areas...the crowd sitting around the 18 really gave this guy the stink eye not to mention one of the players after he putted out. The crowd started shouting him down and he eventually was either taken away or "controled".

I expect that kind of thing will become possible in a few years in the same way that blogs are now making life difficult for printed magazines and newspapers. Expertise will continue to be needed, and possibly increase in demand, but publishing cost has dropped to the point wherein more people can publish and broadcasting cost may also fall because of the net. Whether that is a good thing or not I remain uncertain. I certainly like being able to access news from a host of reporters. Can entertainment follow suit and remain entertaining ?

There will be legal problems. News is apparently public domain but events are currently cosidered private property and the coverage thereof is sold or licensed to specific entities. The event organisers will certainly not want us cheapening their product with our cel phones and neither would the TV stations want us getting and giving free what they pay for.
