Ghosting an insert putter

so i have an old odyssey putter that i want to play ard a little bit with.

 

I am gna have a go at it tomorrow, anyone who has experience pls offer me tips.

 

i cannot power coat the putter cus it has an insert so this is what i plan to do.

 

1.strip the paint w paint stripper

2.clean it up w steel wool

3sand w sandpaper over 600

4apply primer

5apply matt candy white krylon

6apply clear coat aft krylon drys evenly

7apply tamiya paint on sight line

 

heres the tricky bit would the acetone that i use to remove the excess on the paintfill remove my clear coat?

The acetone will likely bubble the paint up, not just the clearcoat. If it were me, I'd try to use something that dries a tad harder than just Krylon. Something such as an appliance enamel, as it won't bubble with the acetone.

Went with enamel white, on the second coat now gotta wait another 8 hrs before I can go with the next.

 

I have to say it is quite nice n powdery ATM which is good so it won't get too glossy when I apply the clear coat.

 

I'm thkg of applying the black on d sight line with a fine marker before I spray the clear coat on as this is what the person at the hardware store advised me to do.

Is it gonna work??

quite happy with the results, i just re-did a putter that was sitting in storage into something trendy.

 

considering i cldnt get it powder coated im quite satisfied with the finish from spray paint and clear coat

You mask off the insert with 3/4" or 1" masking tape. You can also use a more expensive 3m tape like a pinstriping automotive tape. This kind is going to give you a little crisper line, but the masking tape works just fine. Then you run a razor blade around the insert. With the masking tape you can set the edge so it isn't difficult at all. Then just apply the paint.

 

I just did 2 putters like this last week. I ghosted an older DFX 2-ball and painted the 2 balls matte black. I also did a Ping Zing 2i Isopur.

nah its not seeing any bag time. its jst sitting there because theres a yes tracy 2 and a newport 2 in the putter slot.
