I didn't realize that they had been out for a few years, until just recently, so this might be old news. What are your thoughts on scented grips? I have to say, I think it is pretty genius. It's a shame that they are/were only making them for women, because I feel it could help a tremendous amount of people. I have been working on creating a virtual line between my ball and myself, during my pre-shot routine; line about 6 feet behind the ball separates my "think zone" and my "execution zone". Some sort of trigger to help separate that even further would help, whether that be fastening my glove or taking a sniff of a grip.

Let me tell you why I think this works.

Storm Bowling has been making scented balls for several years. I have a Storm ball from 2005, that is scented with cinnamon. They're thought behind making a scented ball, was that with all the noise in a bowling alley, it's something silent that would help you get into your "think zone". I can say that it achieves that exact goal for me. I could have someone screaming while doing jumping jacks right next to me and when that scent hits my nose, I hear or see nothing in front of me but the lane and pins. Maybe it's just me;I guess my brain is susceptible to aromatherapy.

On a side note, I don't know how they get that scent "in" there, but my bowling ball is going on 7 years old and I have had it refinished several times; the scent is just as strong today as it was when I first got it.

Honestly, I never thought of it from that perspective. My initial thought anytime I see them is that they'll leave some disgusting smell on my hands after a round.

My grips do have a distinct smell. Similar to an old lockerroom after each round and like Dawn dish soap after I get home.

Bowlers are a weird breed of cat, man.

As for the theory, it's interesting insofar as your olfactory wiring is a system completely apart from other sensory functions, plugs directly into your lizard brain and can bypass the neurotic short circuitry in your gray matter. I prefer rhythmic breathing or sounds/musical stimuli myself, but it could work.

And think of the unanticipated competitive opportunities. If you could find out what scent your opponent's ex-wife wore, you could really throw him off his game.

if these things have a strong enough odor to cover up the scent of my "crop dusting" I might be into it ;-)

I never heard of it until tonight but I find the concept almost as appealing as edible underwear being my own.

And cinnamon would just make me think of Ohio, where they flavor their chili with cinnamon. Of course that is another subject, but cinnamon in chili, winning the Worlds Best Chili? I do not think they invited any Texans or Mexicans to the contest.

But as far as scented grips goes???? No thank you.

I'm not saying it's for everyone, but I think you would be surprised with the results. I can't speak for the grips, but with my bowling ball, it doesn't leave scent on anything. You should try (almost) anything once.

And yes, cinnamon is disgusting in chili; I make mine standard, only with jalapenos and habaneros. My bowling ball smells more like a Red Hot than straight up cinnamon.
