I am a fan of Keegan Bradley. He has been playing great since the end or so of last year. I have him going into the third round of the match play this week, but now I have my doubts. Last week, on Sunday especially, I noticed his idiosyncrocies, of taking his stance and backing out to check his alignment several times, of turning his head sideways and rolling his eyes. I remarked to my wife one time when they showed him up close eyeing a putt. I froze the picture and said, "Look at the look in his eyes. He looks like he has some girl bound and gaged in the back of his van in the parking lot." Oh yeah, and I also noticed his spitting.

Apparently, others noticed his spitting also. Many others. Many many others more vocal about it. First off, I could have careless about his spitting. And I of course would never advocate binding and gagging a girl and leaving her in the van. But apparently, his twitter is going nuts about the spitting thing. I noticed a write up about it yesterday on Yahoo. And they did a feature on it on Golf Channel and he is very aware of it now.


He said that he will make an effort to stop doing that. I can see this as a major distraction today. And unlike a stroke play tournament where the pressure early on is not as great as towards the end, in match play, every hole that you trail on adds pressure. I hope this is not a major distraction, but I can see him not doing very well this week because of it.

I saw a lot of fuss about the spitting on Twitter, also. I don't know that it was worth all of that, but I do find it distasteful. When I coached high school sports, spitting = sprinting.

Curious to see if your prediction is correct. Will he be thinking about not spitting (and thus, not his game) or will he just do what he's always done.

I like him too. His routine has a tic-like quality to it more than anything that's obnoxious by design.

As for the spitting, well, it's easy enough to keep from offending the fans. Show something else on the teevee. I'm far more annoyed that the broadcast production folks thought there was some merit in showing Spencer Levin chainsmoking his way through his crash and burn last week.

I have no problem with guys spitting on the course. I do have a problem with guys spitting on the green and in the hole; people have to roll their balls through that stuff.
