Seriously, think about the above quote. 80% of the people that I meet in a day have "quit," and they're just goin through the motions, waitin for their heart to stop beating. It's sad!

T-7. Yuck!!!

Haven't practiced for a while and it showed. Poa greens didn't help. Everything was just a little off. No birdies, and three OB. Reality check - I can't play well if I don't practice.

Another tournament, another bad round.....

Putting was atrocious. Spent a lot of time after my round to work on it. Made a couple tweaks, specifically with backswing and stance. Was feeling good, so I played again Sunday. Only 3 putted once (from about 60 feet), and drained 3 over 20 feet. Some much needed confidence!

Now it's on to chipping.

Took the 60 out of the bag. I tend to overuse it. Trying stupid, low percentage shots when a chip will be safer and more reliable. But I still have a tendency to decel when chipping. Gonna concentrate on that. One week to go!!!!!

I forgot the best part. I rolled my ankle hitting from a downhill lie. Not too bad, but enough to make me grimace on every follow through, when all my weight is on that foot.

What a cool thread - I will follow along - My current index is 1.8 - my goal this year is to get it below 1.0 and keep it there for a couple of revisions.

I tried to qualify for the Senior Open the year I turned 50 - that's an easier nut - one day affair they took about 12 qualifiers from my site (Southern Hills in Brooksville). The tournament was at Whistling Straits where I've played a number of times and where I have lots of friends so the cost wouldn't have been so great.

I've got to tell you I melted under the heat in the qualifying round - Florida in mid-June on a hilly course - it was aweful - shot 84 - 78 made it in. We played the course at 6,800 yards after two days of heavy rain seemed like 7,800.

conservative is usually best in qualifying rounds like this.

HF, I wasn't trying to be cute in my response...My ex-wife's a podiatrist....I've got very bad ankles from football & that routine is almost a daily ritual....Also, get an appt. w/a doc who can give you PT for your ankle(whirlpool, electric stim, etc...)...All of that is anti-inflamitory in nature, so it wil contain & reduce the swelling, which in turn will reduce the pain...

Sorry if ya knew this already....The Best......

HF, I know that you were asking about the Driver and situations for a upcoming tournament would this be the one you have building up to in this thread?

I know that you said you lack discipline in the other thread to have a 60* in the bag, do you think that in the next few days with the ankle messed up you could work on gaining some more confidence in picking the proper club for the short game shot?

I might have said it before, but my routine is to pick a spot about 2 or 3 yards onto the green and try to land the ball on that spot rolling it the rest of the way to the cup, i just pick a loft to achieve that goal. Figure if you can't make full swings right now you can work on putting and short game.

The ankle is healing nicely. Thanks for the advice, Richard. Aleve, an ankle brace, elevation, and ice seem to be doing the trick.

Jmiller, you hit the nail on the head. Not gonna change drivers, but I will put the 60 in the bag. Told my caddy to brain me with a short iron if I try to do something stupid with it.

Gonna be spending the next few days putting and chipping. Right now, I'm not even thinking about the full swing. More worried about walking! But I think by Tuesday I'll be 100%. No excuses for me!

Yep, forget about the swing...Just play your mental video of you putting that swing on the ball & playing that course & the ball flying and landing where you aimed..That swing will be there with you when you call on it...and work the short game/putting..

Christ, I'm gettin that feeling in my stomach I get when I play...lol...

Had to hit the range to day and see how the ankle was gonna hold up. I was pleasantly surprised that it went very well. Hitting it solid, and no pain.

I solved my driver problem. Took the old one out. I took a few dozen balls with each, and it was just no comparison.

Didn't do too much chipping, but did a lot of putting. I tried a lot of lag putts and two putted all of them. Typical distance was between 20-40 feet. The highlight was draining a 140 footer that had about 25 feet of break. Yes, the green is that big. It was more luck, but was pretty cool to watch it drop.

Tomorrow, chipping and bunkers.

Sorry for the boring post, but this is the process....
