MGS,

I saw these pics recently online of Dave Pelz ( Famous Golf Instructor ) backyard and it blew my mind. This is one beautiful backyard and golf practice area.

Im guessing he made some alright $$$ teaching golf and selling books huh? haha WOW!

The entire thing is SynTurf with a patented underlayer to simulate the feel of real bermuda or bentgrass - zero mowing. Unbelievable.

So no maintenance required?

It is indeed amazing and much better than Tiger's. But hey, let's not be picky! I would take Tiger's facility too!

no maintenance sounds good to me... but then again, nothing beats real grass

I'd take that setup quick!!!! but maybe I can just befriend someone like that, or maybe I can become a grounds keeper on someone's private estate with a golf setup!

I would have to be entertaining a lot to justify such a set up, or even Tiger's set up. I see such things as a sort of billboard. If I were in the business, it would be a sort of signature.

I just can't see myself spending a lot of time in such a place. It's like taking a membership in a country club. You use their facilities when you need them, otherwise you just maintain your membership.

Only one detriment to playing /chipping/practicing off of synthetic grass how do you take a divot? what about dry and firmer days on real course vs wet and soggy days. Don't get me wrong it's great to have something like this and i'm sure you can develop a nice picking/sweeping type of chip. Don't know about everyone else, but I almost always take some type of turf when chipping to put some spin on my shots especially the further I get away from the green. That and the real life feel I can see as the only set backs. You definitely save on gas, lawn mower repairs and blade sharpening. hell of a facility though... but if you have Tiger cash I'd go with the real deal.

Since we are talking about artificial turf here I'll throw in my opinion. My HS has a little golf area, that we barely use, and it's got two small greens, fake rough for chipping, and a bunker. Now if you don't take care of the facility, it can get rough looking. The bunker we have gets a lot of weeds when it rains and the sand from it has to be swept off the greens if you want something to putt on. The greens were horrible to begin with because it was like sanded greens with pebbles but over a couple years they are pretty flat from walking on them and roll better. The rough is strange. It can either be good and will sweep through nice or it can completely stop your downswing. I know I gave insight to this facility specifically, but I imagine that most synthetic turf setups would be similar.

Y'all can have Pelz and Tiger's backyard. I want John Smoltz's: http://larrybrownsports.com/everything-else/john-smoltz-backyard-video/171701

In The Bag
Driver: TaylorMade M2 (2017) w/ Project X T1100 HZRDUS Handcrafted 65x
Strong 3 wood: Taylormade M1 15* w/ ProjectX T1100 HZRDUS handcrafted 75x
3 Hybrid: Adams PRO 18* w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4 Hybrid: Adams PRO 20* (bent to 21*) w/ KBS Tour Hybrid S flex tipped 1/2"
4-AW: TaylorMade P770 w/ Dynamic Gold Tour Issue Black Onyx S400

SW: 56* Scratch Tour Dept(CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
LW: 60* Scratch Tour Department (CC grooves) w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner
XW: 64* Cally XForged Vintage w/ DG X100 8 iron tiger stepped
Putter: Nike Method Prototype 006 at 34"

Have a ton of back-ups in all categories, but there are always 14 clubs in the bag that differ depending on the course and set-up. Bomb and gouge. Yes, I'm a club gigolo.
