I have to say that I'm a very disappointed with the Golf Channel commentators and PGA tour players for their take on the Casey Martin situation. Brandel Chamblee's comment "there are disable sports and there are places for disabled Americans to play sports", makes me want to reach through the TV and choke him.

I have one question for any jerk (I'm sorry, but thats what you are) that has this viewpoint. If Tiger, Phil, or Rory was hobbled with an injury that made it to where they couldn't play without a cart, would you tell them "sorry, there's a place for disabled people to play sports"? No you would not, and if you say "yes", you are lying.

This is ridiculous and it obviously gets me riled up. What is your take on the situation?

On a side note, Chamblees take that it is much more mentally and physically taxing to walk than ride, is just stupid also. Yes, it is obviously more physically taxing, but these guys are professional ATHLETES. I myself play MUCH better walking than I do in a cart and I don't have someone carrying my bag for me.

I didn't get to watch much of the coverage, but I'm quite willing to believe that Chamblee said something ignorant/stupid so that people would talk about him.

From what I've read about Casey Martin's situation, no one who actually plays the game begrudges him the cart. The people that have watched him said that they can see the pain he's in even with the cart.

According to Chamblee, during the 1998 US Open, "the locker room wasn't split, the players were down right disgruntled". Well for one, I can't see Tiger being "disgruntled" about a former teammate and what I would assume would be a friend.

You're probably right about Chamblee though, just wanting to make something about him.

I play better when I walk too...but that's kinda besides the point.

A disability is different than an injury, and a reasonable accommodation should be made.

Everyone has their own definition of "reasonable" accommodation. To me riding in a cart is a simple, reasonable solution. It's not like they were asked to revamp some holes because he couldn't play them or install a trolly system or something crazy.

I completely agree. I think it is just despicable that it ever had to go to court.

This is exactly what I was trying to write :D

Him using a cart doesn't affect other players in any way and doesn't give him any special edge, so my advice to anyone complaining about it is to get a disability that prevents you doing what you love, and then tell me your opinion of Martin's situation.
