I almost bought a set of irons today only to realize the lie angle had been adjusted 2˚ upright. I've read internet wisdom about why it matters, but I was wondering if it really matters as much as some say. I did some quick math and in order to keep the club flat I would only have move the ball 1 inch closer in my stance, or of course just play with the toe 1/8" off the turf.

Anyway...maybe it does matter...I don't know....so I guess I'm just looking for some insight.

Thanks,
BK

Or just have them bent to fit you upon getting them. That's usually the easiest way. Most places tell you you can't bend more than 2 degrees and that's a myth, you can go much further if you're careful and take your time. Forged will go more than cast naturally. Scratch has bent one of their forged wedges 50 degrees in each direction with no breakage and no stress, for 100 degrees of adjustment total. Other forged clubs have been bent that much as well. The stores usually just tell you 2 degrees because even the most incompetent person can bend a club 2 degrees without damaging it.

GW: 51 degree Ping Eye2 BeCu w/ TiSandvick Titanium Stepless X flex
SW: 56 degree Scratch Tour Dept 1018 w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner (CC grooves)
LW: 60 degree Scratch Tour Dept. 1018 w/ Dynamic Gold Spinner (CC grooves)
XW: 64 degree Callaway V-Forged Vintage w/ Dynamic Gold X100 Tiger Stepped (CC grooves off tour van)
Putter: Right now? Scotty Cameron Newport Beach 2 Prototype Centershaft 33.75" w/ Super Stroke USA Ryder Cup Slim

Have a ton of back-up putters and always play with 14 clubs, above are what's in the rotation. And yes, I'm a club *****.

It's important - just follow Rookie's advice and get it bent to fit you - simple adjustment - you should get the lie of your clubs checked at least annually.

yup RB7 has some good words on this one first thing that I do with a set of irons even out of a box is put them on a lie/loft machine and adjust as needed. I had my 6iron 1* weak in my W/S FG62 set of irons I have now, not sure how the heck that happened but it did. I trust nothing that OEM and people send me so at the very least I'll verify the specifications are correct.

The ones I got are standard...hopefully they will be close. The nearest place that has a bending machine is nearly 2 hours from me over by Minneapolis. I'll take them next time I'm out that way....but it could be a while. I'll check them with an angle finder in the mean-time (seems crude, I know, but you can get pretty close if you use one right).
