I have a chance to pick up either the Razr Hawk Tour or Diablo Octane Tour head....Have my own shaft...Like I really need another driver, however I'd like to try a Callaway & both of these got good reviews...Has anyone hit either or both and what are your thoughts?...

Neither one has a shaft in it so I can't try them out & amazingly, of the other 24-30 guys, while 3 guys hit the Razr Fit, no one hits either one of these....

Thanx for the thoughts....

I played a Diablo Octane Tour for a good part of last season. I liked it quite a bit. It was pretty long for me, partly because it launched the ball pretty high, which I need. It also seemed to be pretty low-spin, although I don't have any data to back that up. The feel is pretty good, although I am more partial to the feel of Titleist drivers and my J33R. It is a soft feel, but as this head is part composite and part titanium, it doesn't feel too muted like some other composite drivers I have hit. I also like how you can't see a split on the crown, which I believe is visible on the Hawk. From address the head is somewhat large, nothing too distracting, and sits very square to maybe a couple of degrees open.

Overall I would certainly recommend the driver with the right shaft in it. If you are trying to keep your flight down I would probably recommend a low launch shaft, whatever that is worth.

MS, thanx a lot......I've gotta low/mid launch shaft to put on which ever one I get...I really like the look of the Octane....

Again, thanx for taking the time....

I actually own the razr hawk non-tour version and i know you are looking at the Tour version but maybe some of the things are similar, if not sorry.

-it feels like a low spin driver (unfortunatley no data to back it up). I can work it pretty easily and not have to worry about over hooking or slicing.

-compact head, even for a non tour club it is smaller than most others ive seen

-very quiet off the face, doesnt make a loud noise when hit

-I have a 10.5 regular flex and i still get a low ball flight (of course that is shaft depending)

I hope this can help a little even though it is not the tour version

Thank you, it does help because I prefer a softer sound, though my RBZ sounds like a frickin cannon...That's really the only negative on it...I sorta figured with the carbon/titanium composite, I figured it would be softer...

Thanx again for the response....

RP I think you've already answered your question - get the look that you like - both are quality heads anyway so take the one that fits your eye. I make like the look of one and had success with it but you like the look of the other - you know what I mean - take the one you like and don't worry about it.

That's exactly the advice that Robin Arthur gave me when I was picking a head to go with my excaliber driver shaft. For me you can't beat the look of the 9064 so I'm already thinking I'm going to hit a good shot. I also like the look of the Rocket Blz (love that black look on the face.)

I did this with my last driver & it was a mistake...I walked into the pro shop, saw the 910 D3, picked it up & carried it around the shop with me like a kid in a Toys R Us...I've never owned a Titleist, but man I loved the look of the D3....

I pulled the trigger & long story short, I've had 3 shafts in it & it's still I'm my closet..I want soooo badly for it to knock the RBZ TP outa my bag, I mean come on, the RBZ vs. the D3 in a beauty contest?....

Regarding the Octane & the RH, they're both nice lookin heads though that slot on the RH sorta bugs me, but heck, I could get used to it...Na, as I write this, you're right, I'm gonna get the Octane...

Thanx RK, cuz I was tempted to say the hell with it & buy 'em both...lol

I had the i mix heads from the non tour version of these. For me the Octane had a much hotter face and produced better ball speeds. But I still liked the Hawk better. More forgiving, sounded better and flew a bit higher. I would imagine the tour heads would be similar. Just on the hot face, the Octane was pretty nice. I used the same Fubuki shaft in both at 45".

TS, I"ve heard the same thing & I bought the Octane Tour this morning...I'm having the shaft put in it and then we'll see..And BTW, you had some nice posts out front and your concerns & views mirror mine...I was gonna post out there except reading all of that garbage was really setting me off and I already teed off on someone who didn't deserve it, so I just got the hell out and I'll deal with it back here in the forum...Most of the idiots seem to avoid the forum, Thank God...lol...

Let us know how that driver turns out!

Have you ever tried the Adams 9064? It is a beautiful looking head - While I'm not a TMag guy - I think I rehearsed the reason why elsewhere in these forums - I do love the look of the Rocket BLZ or however you write it - I like that black look on the face - the Adams is like that as well - Perhaps the best part of it is that you can clearly see where you hit the ball after you've hit your shot.

Of course in the end your game is your game and my game is my game - I played with a guy recently who has the Titleist 910 and it is a beautiful looking club - I hit it fine but hit lots of other drivers better.

I demoed both of these in the 3 wood for about a week each, I thought the Razr Hawk was the better deal for me, however, the Octane had the wrong shaft in it. The Razr Hawk was the longest hitter, but in the end, it was only 3 yards longer than my Titleist 980F 13 and it was no more dependable so when I carry the three wood it is the 980 F or the 909 F3. Usually the 980F. I also like this club because at almost 10 years old, I do not mind hitting it off rocks or roots or what ever. If I scar it up, I hit it with sand paper and move on. That way I can protect my Mizzies.

Yep, I played the 9064 for a little over a year...It had the longest time in my bag...I loved that club...The RBZ booted it though I could put it back in tomorrow, and while I might lose a few yards that baby hit ropes.....Actually, there was about 10 yds difference, though I think that that may have been due more to the shaft than the head...It's in my 3 club rotation....Actually my rotation is the RBZ Tour, 9064 & the 910 D3.....

I'm anxious to hit the Octane.....

You know RP may be onto something here - there's always this intial burst with a new driver before reality sets in but - if you always have a different driver in the bag it's always new. That's Rookie Blue's secret too.

I may have to try it. B)

No, I wouldn't reccomend it...As Steven said, I got issues..lol...It's just I've got quite a few drivers & if I eel like I'm a little "flat," I'll put another one in the bag...I'm not talkin chopping "flat," just if I don't really feel like I'm getting all of it...

Like I said, the 9064 was in there for just over a year and the guys couldn't believe it...I do the same thing with my putters...I've got 3-4 that I'll rotate through....

It works for me, though I don't recommend it for everyone......
