Well, I tell ya, there's a reason they're in my bag and the fg tours are in the trunk. I played mostly the fg tours all summer, but the last couple rounds I really struck the 59s nicely. You're gonna love 'em! Either way I think what we've got is a win/win situation. I'm excited!

Also, just bumming around and dropped by the playitagain store... Always fun, actually picked up a Titleist 909D2 9.5 with a Diamana stiff shaft for only $40 after trading in a couple old clubs I've stopped using. This could be fun!

Richard,

Have you ever hit any of those MP-H4s or FLI HIs? I kind of want to look into a 3 iron. I have a great Wilson Staff FYbrid that fills the 3 iron gap, though it gets the ball up in the air more than my actual 3 iron.

  • 2 weeks later...

Alright folks, get THIS story...

So, yesterday morning I noticed that USPS FINALLY scanned the stupid box and my clubs would arrive that day! I had them sent to the office. Now, my boss/owner is the person I most often golf with, so he knew about how it was taking a long time for the clubs to arrive. Well, yesterday they still hadn't come in by the time I had to leave the office and go to class. I got done with class and rushed back to the office to resume waiting for the clubs before I was to meet my now absent boss out at the course for our weekly tuesday round. I delayed as long as possible before leaving the office disappointed that the clubs hadn't arrived yet. I beat Dave (my boss) to the course and hit the putting green down the hill from the parking lot. As I was putting, I get a phone call and my boss is trying to get me to come up to the parking lot for reasons I couldn't ascertain. I finally walk up there, irritated that he was already a little bit late and see him standing there telling me to come look at his new wedges (he's been talking about ordering new wedges for a month now). In his hand is MY NEW WEDGE!!! And in his trunk is the rest of my MP-59s! Mean trick! Either way, I was pretty excited to hit them, especially since I wasn't expecting to be able to do so yesterday.

On another note... WOW! I had hit the 59s in sims and stuff, but I was nervous about how I'd like them in reality. Let me just say that I was ecstatic when I got them on the course and the felt way better on the course than inside. They feel so excellent! I actually almost even nailed a hole in one today! It was a sweet little 3/4 4 iron from about 190 on a par 3 that flew right at the pin with nice little baby draw to a stop 5 feet from the pin. I swear when you pure those irons they feel like weapons! Pictures are coming soon!

Buddy of mine's uncle lives next door to him. He knew he was waiting in golf clubs. When he saw the mail guy drop them off while my buddy was at work, he went over, removed the irons and put 2x4's in the box. My buddy called me and said he got scammed and I needed to come see them. When I got there (45 mins later) his uncle then came over too. His uncle said, after he showed us the box full of 2x4's, "I thought you said you were waiting for woods". He then went to his vehicle and got the irons. I bout killed myself laughing and that made the drive worth it

How do you deal with the feel from 3 different wedges? I'll admit to having serious OCD about things and wedges are one of them. Just a different look is enough to throw me off, let alone a different feel due to it being a different brand.

Well, I can't say that I don't notice a difference in feel (the scratch is probably a little mushier than the others), though I use them each in different roles. I couldn't probably do a combo iron set because of the feel disparity, but for whatever reason the feel disparity in wedges doesn't mess with me.

Dude, how do ya like the 59s?

Fairways & Greens 4ever

LOVE them. I mean LOVE! I literally CANNOT wait to put the KBS shafts on 'em too. Seriously I had my reservations before I got them, but they really are something else. I'm also beyond glad that you had them +.5 already, because if they were standard it would have really dampened my experience thus far. When I swap the shafts, they'll even gain another quarter inch to get to my optimal length as well. I'm really very pleased with them. It almost feels like wielding a weapon with those things in hand. Now that the end of the real golf season is approaching, I've found myself signing up for more trips with my Air Force job that go to warm places just to keep the rust away... I was able to golf in Albuquerque last week and today I signed up for a trip to Cali and Guam later this month. Sure I may miss a class or two here and there, but hey, I can't really complain.

Seriously though, I love the new irons. Hopefully things are working out well on your end as well!

Glad to hear it. My round of radiation is done for now so I'll get the FLI HI out to ya over the next couple of days.

Yep, the 59s are sweet. They're a Mizzy. Nuff said..lol

Love the Staffs. They're in the bag. They're not Mizzys, however they are as close to the 33s as you can get without it sayin Mizzy.

Good trade!

Fairways & Greens 4ever

There's a Golfsmith just outside of Milwaukee and I've gotten into the habit of stopping in there every time I drive between WI home and MN home. Anyway, they have HANDS DOWN the best inventory of used clubs I've ever seen. I was in there a couple days ago and actually hit some old MP-33s... Butter! I've also enjoyed basically any forged Adams club I've ever hit. I want a set of Adams CMB or MB2s to round out my Mizuno/Wilson Staff/Adams trifecta.

I'm glad you're enjoying the Staffs, I'd be lying if I said that no part of me missed them a little. I'm confident that they are in better hands though!

Alright, it's kind of unimportant, but I'm making another minor and probably short-lived bag change. Next week I'm going to Guam for work, so I'll be carrying a 56* instead of a 54* and a 60*. And the most major addition will be the 1983 H&B Powerbilt 1 metal as a bridge between my driver and hybrid. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Welp, I didn't want to start a new thread, and I wanted some feedback on my next purchase.

Wilson Staff blades, Staff... They're from 1976 and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on 'em given the price and the fact that I have a set of DG S300 shafts ready to install.

I've hit the Staff FG-17s. I have a set 3-pw plus extra 6 and 9 irons, a couple of Staff JP grind SW's and a 60* LW. I've debated selling them or reshafting them. I have a set of TT Black Gold shafts. But they are regular flex. The swing weight of the clubs would be light enough they might play a little stiffer than that (I think). I've also thought about refinishing them before reshafting. Haven't decided yet. As far as hitting them, sssweeeet. It takes me a bit to get the feel for them because they are so light. But once I do, the feel is hard to beat. If I had the right shafts in them, I would play them more.

Welp, now that I've reshafted the W/S Fg Tour V2s (C-Tapers R Flex courtesy of hckymeyer) I have no idea how I'm going to decide which irons to play on any given day. I'm afraid that this isn't even the end... On the upside though, at least my total investment between these two sets, modifications and all, is still lower than the retail cost of either one on it's own.

I hit the Wilsons in the simulator when I picked them up and almost lost my mind. The most striking thing was the feel. A close second was the consistency. And then there was the perfectly struck ball. I had one. Most were well struck, but one was perfect. I'll leave it at that though, this isn't that other forum.

Great looking sticks.

I feel your pain about trying to decide which one to play. I have the Blue MP32/33 combo with black shafts and the MP62 chrome. I love them both. I play the MP32/33 mostly just because they are older and I do not mind banging them around. My MP62's are my dress up clubs.

How do the R-Flex C-Tapers compare to the S-Flex Tours?

I haven't hit them with the KBS Tours in a long time since I had them pulled and swapped to the Mizunos. Even after the swap I've only had the chance to hit the Mizunos once (depressing!). However, the W/S irons have always felt a little softer or smoother than the Mizunos. Even now with the C-Tapers, and this is probably partly because the C-Tapers tend to feel a little stiffer at any given flex compared to the Tours, the R flex C-Tapers feel like the same stiffness as the Tour S flex. I don't have any comparison data relating spin rates and launch angles, and therefore I rely on the feel. The Wilsons FEEL at least as smooth and soft as before.

Like I said, one of the swings was perfect, and you wouldn't even believe what happened... I think that the ultimate potential of the C-Tapers is a little bit higher, and I feel like the R flex is probably the perfect flex for me considering their relative stiffness, my swing speed, and tempo.

I tried very hard to find any meaningful comparison data between the two shafts and flexes on comparable heads before I jumped off the cliff, but there just really isn't anything out there. Even the W/S fitting cart at the golf shop didn't have any C-Tapers, let alone R flex C-Tapers. When the weather comes around in a few months and I can get some rounds under my belt I'll have to reassess the differences.

Haha, dress up clubs. Here's a question though... Why is it that you've chosen to hit KBS Tour XS as opposed to any of the C-Tapers? I'm not trying to play devil's advocate, I'm curious about whether you considered both and found that the Tours were better for you somehow.

In any case though, great sets of irons! Those Mizuno blades are nice!

Dress-up clubs. I like that!

Awesome looking sets!!!!

Thanks! Hey I'll be moving into the Cities from St Cloud after this semester... I might need some suggestions for courses with reasonable membership rates.

Lots of places to play - I joined Crystal Lake in Lakeville last year - nice course, and walking membership is $975 -- seemed to be one of the better deals in the South Metro. Get further out and the rates get lower, but it's more of a drive.

Looks pretty nice, though I'd probably only consider it if I found somewhere to live in the south metro area. To the north there are some good ones too. When I went to pick up my shafts from hckymeyer, his home course looked excellent, especially after I looked it up. It's going to be a tough choice.

What course(s) do you have in mind for the MGS get-together this spring?

That course looks like a winner! Guess it depends on where everyone rolls in from -- would love to try something new! If we all get along (and why wouldn't we smile.gif) maybe we can make it a regular thing and try out each others faves...
