UPDATE: Trip now planned for week of June 3
- There are talks of people flying to Seattle and driving up to Vancouver together

QUICK LINKS
Commemorative hat thread
Travel and Accomodatios thread

OK so the "Distinguished" Mr. RP Jacobs has made known his intentions of visiting our fine city of Vancouver, BC Canada in roughly June of 2013. He and I were bouncing the idea of getting others members from the forum and hopefully even the MGS staff themselves to join him. So I thought I would start a thread to gauge interest from others and we could turn this into a MyGolfSpy in Vancouver Golf week. Please feel free to post your interest, thoughts and possible availability/dates and let's see if we can get the ball rolling. Just off the top of my head we could do a 4-5 day deal where we play Nidine & my usual stomping grounds and I'm sure a Tuna or MrLongBall will have their opinions on courses too.

If the golf doesn't interest you think of it as a week with Mrs. Manbearpig! (photo ops available by request)

It is on my calender, I just have no idea it is feasible, no mater what Nidine promises.

This will be a lot of fun. We're talkin about one of the most beautiful cities in North America, combined with the company of Manbearpig, manbropig & their Lovely wife & sister & to top it off, THE Super Tuna, and now I find out that this is Mr. Longball's neck 'o the woods! HaHa, Dude, with a username like that, you'd better be able to stroke it! LOL

I thought that his name had to do with a medical condition that made it uncomfortable to sit down abruptly.

I use to live in Calgary but now live in Los Angeles. Calgary to Vancouver would be an easier drive.

Ok, I have been to Canada, sort of. A friend of mine and I were going to Syracuse NY to install a system. And we decided since we were going to be that close we needed to go see Niagara Falls. So we stopped. Of course since we were that close and at the time you could walk over with just you driver's license we did and looked at the falls. But in all honesty we were more interested in the Hot Dog place we saw near the falls.

Maybe it was who I was with but I did not find Niagara Falls any more romantic with Bruce than I did the sunset on Oahu with George. I just did not get a warm and fuzzy feeling around them no matter where I was.

The flight from LA to Vancouver is faster then that drive, easier and costs less then the gas would. IE Golfspy Tim has no travel related excuse. Nic either!

Plenty of excellent course to play up here. Mrs. Super Tuna would be quite happy to hang/shop/suggestions of things to do.

Nice pictures Dan. Sure looks like a beautiful area. Makes me want to visit for sure! Got to thinking though. If you got that zip line up, it sure would be an added incentive to get more of us up there! However, now that I think about it, I'm liking Rick's calculations of 1625 ft of cable over my 200 ft if I'm going to try it! Yea, let's go with that shall we? Let us know how the installation is coming would ya? :P

You must have missed Dan's "big plan" to put a zip line from his balcony to the ground! Everyone was pitching in with design ideas. Anyway, yea, I'll be up for that if it works out for me. I don't have any idea if it will yet though. I may be just trying to get jobs to keep us going! There's not much happening these days. I'll see when we get closer.

excited this thread is getting some action and really nice to see guys like HighFade back and interested.

Question, would you guys be more interested in playing our usual stomping grounds or playing the big name local courses. Problem is a lot of the big name ones tend to be overrated and stupid pricey for what they are.

Don't know about anyone else -- but I'm a fan of "local knowledge." You guys play there regularly and know the lay of the land...

Well to get some course convo going here's what's on my list and why.

Fraserview Golf Course - At one time the busiest course in Canada and for good reason, amazing layout for a city owned course. PLUS I grew up playing here.

fraserview316.jpg

Riverway Golf Course - Really solid links style and city owned course. This is where Nidine and I do all our practice and majority of play. Can't believe they still only charge $46 on a weekday

riverway-dinner.jpg

Cove Links - 9 holes yes, par 29 yes but it's where we play a ton of the time based on full length par 3's, excellent conditions and no ones else is there. This would be the ultimate gambling evening :P Rick?

Oh look it's Mr.Longball

brad5cove.jpg

Seymour Golf Course - Old style cut through the trees up Seymour Mountain - views and a very Vancouver flavor to it.

Oo I missed this. Well that settles it all LA area folks will be here!

Now how bout those Washington staters that are like 2 hour drive away? Oregon not much farther, come on up.

Mr.Longball just texted me suggesting some courses so I said I'd put em up.

KingsLinks - A links? A real one, but is it by the sea? Yes, yes, FAST greens!

kings_links_040.jpg

kings_links_018.jpg

Sandpiper - Up the valley and sitting right on the Fraser River. Wildlife, mountains and most of all British Columbia

sandpiper.jpg

And this one I'm throwing in.

The Falls - went out of business 2 years ago but the owner of the Canucks bought it and apparently has restored the course to it's former beauty. This is built in the hills and shows off the Fraser Valley in all it's glory. PLUS Nidine and I spent our second anniversary in a Villa on the first tee so it's got sentimental value.

Just pick your dates Rick and I'll book the tee times :P

Actually, I am supposed to be in Eastern Europe around that time, so I will not know until much closer. I am planning on attending, either by myself or with Lady Jane. But I have a project that I have been dreaming of since 1997 and it is much more important than playing golf. It it happens than I can come play golf when ever I want, Maybe just not this June.

Or take the train!

Seriously, there are still passenger trains. Not in Texas.

My wife rode a train from Chicago to San Francisco before we met. I have never been on a passenger train in this country. and honestly it never occurred to me to take a train. I would much rather have a rental car anyway. I am used to driving everywhere I want to go once I get there. We ain't got no buses in North East Texas.

Kings Links and Sand Piper are EXCELLENT suggestions.

If we want to see if we can get Rick's blood to boil, we should take him to Furry creek.

As to other courses, I really like North View. The Canal course is very West Coast links style while the Ridge is more like small mountain golf.

Also there's Pagoda Ridge which is worth it just for the Great Wall heh.
