The MyGolfSpy Forum is a true community. We aim to be a welcoming place where all opinions can be heard and all members are encouraged to participate. One of the greatest barriers for this is that new members fresh to the site are trying to find their way around and often have too much ability to handle up front. For this reason, new members begin as part of the Recruit Group. The Recruit Group guides new members through the process to using the forum before they become full members. With Recruit status comes a few restrictions. These restrictions will hopefully encourage new community members to discover all that we have to offer. The following permissions will be disabled for Recruits: Display Name Change Content Reporting Chat Box Posting listings in Buy/Sell/Trade Apply for Forum Testing Opportunities The following permissions will be limited for Recruits: 10MB max photo uploads Max 15 posts per day Limited to 5 recipients per message, 50 total, 10/day These measures are not punishments but are the guardrails to keep you on the tracks until you're ready to be a contributing member to the forum. Want full permissions? It's quite easy to get promoted to Member. You just need to hit the following criteria: make 15 posts AND Receive 15 likes AND Spend 2 total days on the forum. That's it. Easy enough? Get posting!

The most obvious limitation of the "Recruit" status is the inability to apply for equipment testing. If you've been a member for a long time but are now a "Recruit," it is either because you haven't posted enough times or had enough "likes" on your posts. This happens most often with longtime members who have posted almost entirely in the review application threads. Those who have no posting history or have only ever posted in the review application threads have virtually no chance of being chosen for testing. By creating the "Recruit" status, we're just aiming to be even more upfront and transparent about this. We've had posts on the forum literally for years explaining how to get chosen for reviews; none of this was ever hidden before (here's one from seven years ago). But by putting this speed bump up in a really unavoidable way, we're staying true to the #TruthDigest mission of MyGolfSpy: everything out in the open, nothing done in the dark. The review opportunities aren't "contests" that members "win." These are not random draws. When we're picking reviewers, we're looking for members with a track record of quality posts in the forum that have added value to the discussions here. It's always been the case that members without this track record are eliminated pretty early in the process of narrowing down the applications. Our hope is that by making this even clearer, we'll encourage more of you to join in the discussion here. We believe firmly that this is the greatest golf forum on earth and we want to keep our great community while welcoming new members to become part of what has been built here.

Welcome! We’re glad to have new members in our forums. We think you’ll find this one of the best golf communities anywhere, with discussions that are both substantive and respectful. MyGolfSpy is like no other forum on the internet. We're content by the people for the people. You can make it your own in a judgement free zone. We don't have rules but encourage you to read our Forum Moral Codes. They’re short but they lay out the basic expectations that we have for our community. Next, fill out your profile. Click on your member name in the upper right corner, then on “Profile”: From there, you can change your profile picture by clicking the picture icon. While you’re there, fill out the rest of your profile, with your social media handles, your location, and your handicap by clicking the “Edit Profile” button: Then start posting! A great place to begin is the “Introduce Yourself” subforum. Jump in the thread for your region and let us know where you’re from and why you love golf!

Just ask for ‘em! The complete set of options for the badges can be found here. A couple of the badges have to be earned, like the winner of the MGS Fantasy Football and Golf leagues. Others relate to your vocation or golf accomplishments. Product testers receive their badges after fully completing all the aspects of their review. You can get nearly any of these badges by requesting them with a post in the badge thread or a DM to one of the forum moderators. For the “Donor” badge, you need to DM one of the moderators the transaction ID for your donation as a verification.
