  1. All of you are making it so hard to keep on all the forum goings on! Which is fantastic! Been a cool stretch for all of us and nice to see so many new names participating on the forum. Big welcome to all of the near 3k that have joined this month so far. Last day of work before a 4 day weekend and only a month left before the season is over for a little bit for me. Then take the ice out and let the real work begin - due to all the issues and failures causing a host of issues the last several seasons the hall called for an emergency meeting to replace the system. This is no small task and a huge cost, but also one that needs to be done. The plans are all in place and now just a few small things to sign off on and we are going to get started! The timeline will be tight to get it all done in the short offseason (5 weeks) and may mean we start our season a bit later than normal (woohoo more time off for me!). So no matter what it will be a clear win win for me and I will finally have a system that I can trust and rely on.

  3. Hope you had a good birthday, @jbern! @MattWillGolf That pittie looks like a cute one. @rkj427 Sounds like Detroit will have a fun Draft week. – Morning all. It’s Easter time here, so everything is closed today, Friday, Sunday and Monday—except for bakeries and home and gardening stores. I suppose because on holidays folks eat bread and catch up on gardening. For us, we’ll be taking dog walks, working around the house, maybe start prepping the backyard for spring and summer. Not sure golf is on the agenda, but hopefully grilling is. Best health to all.

  4. Good Thursday morning all! Rainy day here, thought it will really help melt the remaining snow which is needed. Usual work day though has been a light meeting week so far which should keep rolling here which is great. Kids have music and other school activities for the day. Should be a fine day overall. Have a great day everyone!

  5. Good morning spies! Ranger Rob duties today, then hoping to get a round in after that. I know it's only been 10 days, 4 hours, and 33 minutes since I last played or did range time, but it feels like an eternity! Looking forward to the CC later!

  6. Good morning Spies on this Community Call Thursday from a soon to be sunny day here in Michigan. No commute day for me, so an earlier start to my typical workday, but I have a couple meetings to attend and present, and then work in data systems afterwards. @berkeleybob it has been many years since everything closed up for Easter here, although the major automotive companies give their employees both Friday and Monday off as holidays. Stores will be open, many even on Easter Sunday. Hoping to see many members on the call later, to see what Jamie, @GolfSpy_APH, and Ben, @GolfSpy_BEN, and Matt, @GolfSpy SAM have in place to share this week. Hope that your day is the best it can be, and that something fun and enjoyable is in your plans.

  7. Good morning everyone! It's community call day and I'll pop in on my drive home today. I have a doctor's appointment after work and will be on the road about the time it starts. I was supposed to play today and had to cancel, so I'm a bit bummed about that. I actually slept until my second alarm sounded this morning, I don't know what happened to the first one because I don't remember hearing it. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

  8. Good morning spies. It’s s chilly 29° start to the day here but it should climb to around 50° today. Highs in the 50s and 60s for the next couple of weeks so it might be safe to say that spring has finally arrived. I do not get any extra time off of work at this time of year, times have definitely changed as the years go by. Happy Birthday to @Preeway & @CFreddie! Hope you have amazing days. Enjoy your Thursday everyone!!

  11. Good morning MGSpies on this Community Call Thursday in MyGolfSpace looking forward to seeing everyone work computer going onto the network and still have to get the coffee from the upstairs canteen kitchen on this no-commute workday here in basement central command. Funny thing about not hearing first alarms. When I was in Balad Iraq on LSA Anaconda north of Baghdad, my quarters were 800m from the counter battery M105 mm howitzers. Whenever there was something inbound to the airfield like rockets, mortars, and such, it was detected by Air Defense Radar and the air raid sirens would blare across the airbase. (We learned the insurgents would video their launches to record the sirens so they could get paid for doing the attack.) A back-azimuth and distance was calculated to determine the launch site coordinates that was sent to the counter battery and they would fire three 105mm artillery shells from the howitzers before waiting for additional instructions and usually during the air raid siren blaring. If nothing else happened in the next 30 minutes, the all clear siren would sound. I never heard the initial air raid sirens that wailed for 3 minutes, (yes 180 seconds duration), or the boom of 3 howitzer rounds firing but I always heard the 20 second all clear sirens I put it down to being able to sleep through the sound of freedom just like I never wakened to the booming roar of F16s in full afterburner taking off from the airfield runway 1200 meters away. Have a great day and hope golf is a part of your day 62

  13. Good morning spies! I hope your morning is off to a cracking start. Just got up to work out and hit the bike again. Have to work on some grad school this morning so I can watch all of the basketball games tonight. The weather is finally starting to trend in the right direction, which means golf is close! Can't wait to jump back on the course and start working on my game. I hope you all have a thrilling Thursday!

  14. Good Thursday Morning Spies! Chilly weather this morning, but warming up into the 60's today and sunny. Not sure what the afternoon holds yet, but we will see. My daughters appointment went ok yesterday. They didn't find anything, which is good and bad. Doctor is testing for bacteria to see if it is that. There was a rash he was concerned about but not sure where that is coming from. So she is still feeling blah, but at least mom and I can relax knowing it isn't any of the worst things we were thinking. Have a great day everyone!

  15. Good morning everyone. Slightly warmer wake up today but still too cold for my liking. Weather supposed to back into the mid 60s tomorrow so I’m thinking of taking a birthday liberty and playing hooky tomorrow to get in 18. Have a doctor appointment this afternoon to get a cortisone shot in my knee and discuss plans to repair the meniscus this fall, assuming it can wait that long. Worst part of getting old is you just don’t heal like you used to and now all my bumps and bruises from playing too hard in my youth are showing themselves in ways I don’t care for. Hope to catch the last half of the community call after my appointment. Thank for the birthday wishes, @Josh Parker Gonna be a great day. Hope everyone has a great day ahead as well.

Have a great day! @Girldad18 hope your daughter finally gets the answers you have been looking for. Looking forward to the community call after today's round and wondering what the staff has in store. Everyone enjoy a great day and fairways and greens to all...

  19. Good morning Spies, Up early to feed Miss Maisie. This girl attacks food and water. She eats with such gusto! it’s a mild day in CNY. Got update from PXG my new driver is ready for shipping! Not much on tap for today. Maisie isn’t much of a walker. She heads out takes care of business and is ready to head back home. It’s a big change from our Riley. We’d be out for an hour and a half or more and cover 2 to 3 miles. Not a blistering pace but he’d get his sniffs in for sure. @Girldad18 glad to hear things while not conclusive are moving in the right direction for your daughter. Happy birthday to @CFreddie and @Preeway Hope you have a great one! Opening day! I will have MLB TV fired up at 4:10 pm for the Giants vs Padres. My sister’s niece is the new TV sideline reporter for the Padres. She previously had the same role for the Utah Jazz. Wishing all a wonderful day!

    The Good Morning Thread

Morning All, While today is my duty day and I will dog the 4 day weekend, I am reminded that I requested this day because I know people have families and children the want to do stuff with this weekend. That's not saying I don't have a family, but only having a spouse and no children I felt it was important for those who are junior to me have that opportunity to spend a long weekend with their family. It was something I wasn't afforded when I was a junior enlisted person 17, 18, 19 years ago. Anyway, hoping to be out of work in order to catch the community call today on my drive home. Haven't been able to pop on in a bit. Hope Everyone ha a great day.

  26. Good morning all, well it's back to reality vacation is over. At least this year we didn't get flooded out one time the whole month of March. Celebrated my birthday at a place called Out of Africa, you ride around in this open bus and the animals come up to the bus. They gave you a piece of grass to feed the giraffe when he stuck his head in, really fun place. Played golf 4 times didn't do too bad broke 90 every time with a low round of 83. The last course we played coyote trails was the tightest course I ever played, it's a 9 hole course so we played twice, it was in really nice shape for 45.00. I missed a hole in one by 4 inches there, but I also lost 4 golf balls, that was the only course I lost any. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

    The Good Morning Thread

Mornin’, y'all! I'm not sure it is possible to get a better cup of coffee than the coffee in the waiting room at your local QuickLane while getting an oil change and tires rotated. Yum! I forgot to post this story yesterday. Tuesday was raining and cold so I decided to hit some balls on the simulator at my course before meeting some buddies for bowling. The night before I had cooked steak dinner for my wife and I, and the leftover steak was going to be my lunch (I bowl at 1:00 so I figured I munch on a sandwich while hitting balls at Noon). Because I was going right from the house to the course, I simply wrapped the sandwich in a paper towel and put it in the open side pouch of my Sunday bag (right above the plastic bag in photo below). Then, things went wrong. I left my golf bag inside by the garage door while I went outside for a minute or two. When I got back inside, the dog, Lil Miss Who-Me? (aka, Princess Butter-wouldn’t-melt-in-My-Mouth) had decided I didn’t need that sandwich more than she did. She had eaten one slice of bread, a slice of cheese and half the steak when I found her — perfectly positioned over the paper towel so as not to get any crumbs on the floor. She was not pleased to be interrupted but was perfectly okay with me having to settle for a plain cheese sandwich for lunch. Oh, and she was so sneaky that my wife, sitting less than 10’ away, had no idea what was going on. And I lost 75¢ bowling.

  31. Good morning MGS Troops!!! What a glorious morning!!! Yesterday was blah, a lame humpday. I do thank G*D for all my days but yesterday was full of wind and stress. Today we see a surgeon for the spousal unit. Not really ready but we must do what has to be done and this is happening rapidly. The radiologist caught the “C” very early so we’re blessed for that. The spousal unit has been extremely positive, although I know she’s stressed. This poopy was fixed yesterday and got her teeth cleaned and finally ate this morning. That’s a stress relief because she’s one of the calmest weens we’ve ever had. She’s a support poopy for the spousal unit! I have to tell you, this group is my support poopy! Love you guys and am blessed to be a part of it. I’m kinda giddy right now too. I woke up looking at the ceiling fan and had a calmness come over me. That also makes me gushy and glad. I’m hopeful to play a practice round today depending on the outcome of today’s visit. The spousal unit has insisted I practice before Saturday’s VGA event. She’s the best and I don’t know what I’d do without her. We’ve been through so much over the last 25+ years. She supported me through college and the military, raised our kids when I was gone. She’s getting a huge surprise on our anniversary come October. I just wouldn’t be the person I am without her. She makes me a better man (not trying to sound cliche). I love her with all of my heart. Do you ever look back and wonder what you’d do differently? I have, and I wouldn’t change a thing save treating her better and building a higher pedestal for her. But wouldn’t change anything else. Wow! I’m rambling… sorry ‘bout that, just feeling positive and loved! G*D bless you all and love the day! As we say in Wyoming, “Live every day with courage!” Have a glorious Thursday and happy birdie hunting!!! Wyo out!!!

  32. @ZJeb67 only a 3 day weekend for me as well, not 4. Work for a Tier 1 supplier to the automobile industry, and we don't get the same benefits as they do. Still if the weather cooperates, looking forward to getting a round in tomorrow afternoon. Where in SE Michigan are you located? Maybe could get some Michigan Spies together this upcoming season?

  33. I can't lie, I'm drooling over here!!! Couple questions as testing officially starts... What was your normal preferred shots with each of your previous wedges? Do you think these will help you expand on your shot capabilities over previous wedges?

  34. I am working on a smaller project which is still very early staged. Many have been asking about towels, ball markers, hats and much more. While we have had some fun with bags the last couple years I wanted to do a quick heat check on the potential for those interested in head covers. Designs, prices and all that have not been determined or discussed, this is just the idea formation and if there is enough interest we may pursue this further. Thanks all!

  35. @Rob Person, I currently play my trusty 52, 60deg Clevelands RTX, and they are right on the money for me from 90m in for my 52deg, and 60m in for my 60deg wedges. So those driver and irons that just come up short, these are the go-to clubs I use. They are damn accurate, so if it is a 45m shot I need, I just grip down a bit, make a 3/4 swing and it'll give me my shot. Around the green I would use the 60deg and get creative and just play a controlled quarter-stroke, and the ball would get over whatever hazard, bounce and check. Currently I am very happy with my wedges, so these S159's has some big shoes to fill. But if the play as close to what they look, then I have big hopes for them and will put them through their places to test this. I really like that question!!

  37. I feel you, they have it perfected and sometimes think it's a genetic thing they're born with. Mine hit me with it today, I thought I had a doctor's appointment to establish myself as a patient and get a colonoscopy scheduled and blood work. (I've never been good at taking care of myself). I got there today and found out it's tomorrow. Well, I had a round scheduled for tomorrow and won't be able to make it if I go to the doc. I had to cancel the round because I knew I would get the death stare if I chose to play over going to the doctor. I can be wise sometimes. She still have me the look after getting home and explaining everything, I'm am glad she worries about me.

  40. Great question! My 58 gets the most use, 115 yards and in. Whether or not it’s the smartest play it’s what I feel most confident with. I will say stokes gained shows it’s a positive area of my game so it’s working for now. I like to play it high and limit run out as I find that harder to control since I play a bunch of different courses where green speeds are all over the place. I play an open face frequently so I went with the lowest bounce option here in the T grind. 54 is my 125 club, I’ll use this if I need to play a low runner. I also like it out of fairway bunkers where I need a fuller swing, 100-50 yards or so from the green. The 50 is almost exclusively used for full swings. I’ll use it in bump and run situations occasionally. It’s my 135 club which fits the gapping well with my pitching wedge. I’m not great at “feeling” a yardage so I try to give my self lots of options to full swing in the scoring area of my bag. My hope for the new wedges is more consistent spin out of different lies and in the dry and wet. Sometimes I get a lot of check and sometimes the ball releases more than I’d like. I’m sure I’m partly to blame but that is one area I’m looking at. I’m also curious about the forgiveness as that’s part of what Ping is known for. I also am considering the feel. They are advertising them to have a softer feel which I personally like. My one complaint with my Jaws MD5s is that they are pretty firm and can feel a little clicky sometimes.

  41. @Rob Person I was just about to drop a little update in here about some of my previous wedges - gonna hold off and give this a quick answer for me while I'm waiting! @bens197 & @aguybadatgolf those pictures are , I should be getting mine in soon and I'm already jealous! Part 1, shot types: 58* - Believe it or not, I enjoy hitting big high flops from all sorts of lies around the green. Something I practiced a lot and have a surprising amount of confidence with. I will use it out of short sided bunkers, out of the 2nd cut around the green, and anything that really requires a bit more touch. 54* - This is my go to from the sand usually. I use it for lower trajectory approach shots, and longer chips where I still want to carry a little longer - may hit from 80-100ish yards fullish swing depending on circumstance 50* - This is usually my approach for any shot I want under 120 yards. I generally practice with this the most on the range to get the feel of different distances dialed in. I'll use this for bump and runnish shots a lot where I need a little check. I usually don't use anything lower lofted than this around the greens! Part 2, new wedge expectations: This is interesting and differs for each loft. I'll run through it in the same order: 58* - I got the T-6 grind here, I expect it's going to allow me to play with the face angle a bit more for my touchy shots but I'm worried that the lowww bounce isn't going to bail me out on my almost good shots and general mishits. I *do* think the more square leading edge will be a little more confidence inspiring over the more rounded tear drop on my current and previous wedges - really excited about this aspect. 54* - The S-12 grind is going to be pretty similar to the 54/56* wedges I've used in the past with general success. I mentioned in my intro that while they're geared towards mid to low handicappers I wonder if the forgiveness Ping's been known for is going to show up here for me. 50* - Also the S-12 here. I've bounced between traditional wedges and iron set gw for this distance, I had a lower bounce Vokey that I never really got along with but when I hit well had some stopping power, currently I'm using the Maltby DBM GW, which I have all of the confidence in the world but can't flight as well as I'd like, and could use a little more spin. This is the club I'm most unsure about if it will stay or go, but I'm expecting it to split the difference to some extent and add a little more workability. I'm hoping I can give this full swings and not be afraid to hit it past the pin, which would be really big for me I think. I may have to club up if I want to bump and run depending on how spinny the grooves are, though at this loft and lower lofts it should be milled to spin a little less. All and all this is going to be a fun experiment across the board!

  43. Today I got a special delivery from Japan. I love this shape and the short slant with mid mallet is my fav type of putter. I found this on Golf Partner on ebay for $80 shipped which is a crazy deal for this putter. I never ordered from Japan on Ebay but to my surprise, it arrived 3 days later and with a perfect magnetic headcover, club head in plastic still. This seller is going to be getting a lot of my business as I love Japanese obscure stuff. The putter face is Aluminum milled and the body is carbon steel. Very soft, very balanced. Goin right into the bag.

  47. Good morning spies! Well took the A&M 9000 back to the practice putting green yesterday and tested a whole bunch of different balls. Conclusion?? If you putt with a cheap to mid range cost ball you are most likely giving away strokes with your putter. I really like QStar-Tour Divides. It is a good spinning ball that I can work. But, when the last sleeves in the box are gone I probably wont go and get more. Curious? Check out my last write up. Nope no video this time...
