  1. Who I am – MGS Tester Introduction My name is Chris and welcome. I am a 65 year old male and I live with my artist wife Sue and two huskies in Oakville, in the greater Toronto area in Ontario, Canada. To put things into perspective the province of Ontario is 1.5 times larger than the state of Texas and 4 times the size of the U.K. Why I am testing: I am very grateful to MGS and L.A.B. and excited by this opportunity. I am keen to see if the L.A.B. DF3 and its lie angle balance approach to putter design works as claimed. It was designed to eliminate torque and produce a repeatable swing. The DF3 is the smaller, sleeker version of its bigger brother, the directed force, DF2, but does it deliver the goods? It has gained significant traction on tour and begs the question of how it stacks up to my fitted reference putter(s). VERSUS But this is no ordinary Evnroll. It has been fitted and modified with a stability tour shaft and an Evnroll gravity grip. For more information on this and my putting statistics, see, What am I looking for in the L.A.B. DF3: I gave a lot of thought on how I would test this if given the opportunity before applying. I am a fairly decent putter averaging 31 to 32 putts per round based on my Arccos data. If it proves to deliver the putter more consistently to the ball and results in more one putts, less three putts and overall, less putts per round, it will be a candidate to go in the bag permanently. I am particularly interested in how it performs from 10’ feet and in. Does it offer good value for the money? My putter testing protocol including testing on Quintic to follow in a separate post. Moreover, thorough testing of the L.A.B. DF3 will focus me on improving my putting and working on my putting drills. So thankyou MyGolfSpy. Making those short putts is critical. Who I am: I am driven by challenges and the constant need to learn and improve and I’m passionate in what I do. I am also data driven and analytical in nature. Needless to say, I am a golf, data and equipment junkie. I have had many careers. After graduate school, I did medical research looking at factors involved in preterm labour. I then moved onto organ donation and transplantation, eventually running the organ donation program based out of Toronto General Hospital. Toronto General hospital (TGH) is one of the premier transplant centres and hospitals in the world. They pioneered both successful single and double lung transplantation in the eighties. I had the distinct pleasure of working in multi organ transplant in the early days (80’s/90’s) and worked with many brilliant and incredibly smart people. Where the driving principle was you do what’s best for the patient and what does the data show. What is the source of that data, is it evidence based, is it fair, balanced, and non promotional in nature. You had to know your stuff and be prepared for anything. Back then it was routine to work 24-36 hours straight procuring and transplanting organs. Think of the guy getting off the Lear jet in OR greens with a cooler. I was that guy. I’ve been in every teaching hospital and most ICU’s (intensive care units) across Canada and many in the US. No frequent flyer miles I’m driven by the need to learn, push myself and enjoy what I do. I then transitioned to career 3, moving to the “dark side” starting with Wyeth and then Pfizer in their Rare Disease group and the launch of Rapamycin for organ transplantation. So, I stayed in transplant, interacted with all the people I worked with for many years, although now in a different capacity. If you’re going to go to industry, it’s the best way to go. Over time, bleeding disorders (hemophilia) and growth disorders were added to my portfolio but the same guiding principle of doing what’s best for the patient and what does the data actually show, guided me. Career 4, presented itself during the pandemic and the opportunity to take early retirement with no more Zoom calls and the opportunity to be a full time golf aficionado and pickleball player was too irresistible to pass up. My other passions are building, home renovation and cooking. When I was young, I bought a water access shell of a cottage as my first property. Not being handy at the time, I proceeded to take courses in construction, carpentry, electrical and plumbing. I then proceeded to completely wire the cottage, plumb it, insulate it, drywall, install flooring, build the kitchen, bathroom, etc. I’ve built and rebuilt docks, decks, so hence the handyman moniker. There’s not much I can’t do, although with age comes wisdom. Golf: I have been playing golf on and off for 40 plus years. After not playing golf for 10+ years, I got back into golf at the age of 60. I was inspired by a friend who once said, golf is the only game you can play for 30 years and never improve. When I thought about it, it is rather true, so I was determined to do it right the second time around. At the time I was about a 25ish handicap. Hence lessons, fitted equipment and diligent practice. I was inspired again when I went to Tour Experience Golf (TXG) 5+ years ago and came out not only with expertly fitted and built clubs, but many new friends. I now go at least twice a year to tweak my setup. My current handicap is 6.3, but I have been as low as 4 or high as 8.5. Most of my rounds are in the 78 - 82 range. My home course is TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley featuring 3 courses all ranked within the top 60 courses in Canada and all 3 in the top 20 public courses in Canada. TPC Sawgrass, I’m the guy in the middle in the blue and black. I love scenic, challenging courses, especially mountain or coastal courses. What drives me is hitting good shots and being consistent. My philosophy is if you hit good shots the score will “usually” take care of itself. If you don’t like the score, play better. I am competitive, however, I play more for the joy of the game. I strive to improve each year and keep father time at bay. Now, my day job is golf, pickleball and my two huskies. Myah (front) and Hazel (rear) Thank you for your patience and understanding in reading my introduction.

  2. It is no secret that L.A.B. Golf has taken off because of multiple wins on the PGA Tour and a greater professional presence overall. Its success in MyGolfSpy testing and the hype around the newly released L.A.B. DF3 has only increased its notoriety. What Is L.A.B.? L.A.B. stands for Lie Angle Balance. These putters, unlike other putters, are not toe-hang or face balanced. They are balanced to point at the target, meaning no twisting, no struggling to keep the face directed at the target—the putter does this naturally. As each golfer is unique in their putting stance and stroke, the fitting process for L.A.B. is crucial. L.A.B. has made this easy by way of their online submission. A simple step-by-step process is sent to L.A.B. and they use this video to dial in your specifications. L.A.B. is best known for their big and unique-looking DF 2.1, a putter that has many nicknames and certainly does not appeal to all golfers. This is where the DF3 comes in. Please welcome and congratulate our testers! @jbern @MattWillGolf @CFreddie @Cfhandyman @GolfSpy MPR @Steve F

  3. Good Friday morning! Working on some things at home today while we have a giant hole in the house. Door is being installed for the new deck and the rest of the family is heading to SandFest. Sucks I don't get to go, but we are all super excited about the new deck and family time we will spend on it. Rain forecasted all weekend so we will see if the weatherman is right. Have a great day and hopefully golf is in your forecast.

    The Good Morning Thread

Good Thursday morning to you MGS Troops! Look what I woke up to. Mother Nature said “No golf for you”! That’s ok, have to head to Denver this morning anyway, but check out the forecast: So awesome!!! Yes, yes it was sarcasm. Sunday is supposed to be better, but I play on Friday at Marianna Butte which is in the foothills of Loveland CO. Friday’s forecast??? Rain and snow. Maybe the VGA will cancel. I’m doubtful. Here’s a throwback Thursday pic for ya on my way out the door. Zoey crushing another girl from Dallas! It was awesome! Happy Snowy Thursday from Wyoming!

  5. Happy Friday all! I hope that everything is able to watch as much of the Masters as they like and for all who are out on the course to go low. Looking forward to a relaxing day today and hopefully this weekend with a round booked for Sunday. May miss some of, but not all of the Masters. Got my Newton 5 dot to go test out as well! Oh and I need to get my next Stack session in today as well.

  7. It's up! Finally - I amaze myself at the computer work I am able to accomplish considering I am an Ice Technician and not training in all this nonsense. Also would love feedback on the new Newsletter (sorry yesterday was a broken morning so the old one went out) However we are working hard on providing a better newseltter for all to experience! It took about 4 months to build - lots of bs along the way - but happy with how it has turned out. Let us know what you think! Hope the coffee is hot and everyone is enjoying their days!

Golf later today the rain gods be willing. @CFreddie happy anniversary @Josh Parker new deck looks good @EasyPutter some of us were just a wee bit jealous of you golfing during the community call. Well done. @Jean D love your new setup, but yes don’t take out your projector with your driver. @Dead Solid Bogey keep your deadly sense of humour coming. Enjoyed by many. Message of the day

  10. Good morning MGSpies from the calm before the rains start again early on this Friday in WNY where the coffee is almost ready and work computer is going onto the network from the zero commute to underground central where I'm having the same kind of start Jason @sirchunksalot had and I don't know why the delay in getting started either, but community call was awesome yesterday with holes 3 through 9 shared from my phone camera (just not so good on keeping up with all of the discussion but I manage) and today I'm going to have a new experience getting a club fitting, heard lots about them but my first so hold me down!! Hope golf is a part of your day too! 40

  11. Good morning Spies on a cool and wet Friday morning here in the Motor City. At work and will be another long day here for me, but those will be ending shortly. Supposed to be colder and cloudy on Saturday, so I may head to Carl's for their range facilities rather than the one closer to the house. Sunny on Sunday and about 50 degrees, so I will get a round in then. Hope that your day is the best it can be, and that something enjoyable may be in your plans.

  12. Good morning everyone. And oh what a testing opportunity this is going to be. A friend and I used to go garage sale shopping for persimmon drivers and refinish them and sell them. We would also tinker and build out different clubs at different swing weights just to see how/if they would perform differently. Still have one of the drivers I built with the old school leather grip. Haven’t swung it in years, no decades, though and not sure how it would hold up after all this time. Happy birthday @GolfSpy SAM and I hope everyone has a great day ahead. Bummed to miss the community call today as I’m sure the talk about Toura will dominate the chatter.

  13. Good morning Spies on this Community Call Thursday from the Motor City. Cool and cloudy now, but supposed to warm-up later as the day progresses. Want everyone here to know to wish @GolfSpy SAM a Happy Birthday today. Rumor has it he is turning 39 for the unknown time again today. Hoping to see many on the call later and hoping that your day is the best it can be, and that something enjoyable is in your plans.

  14. Morning all. Overnight freezing temps, but a sunny 46°F (8°C) outside. Starting up a personal project in the shop, and frankly, I’m a little nervous and excited about it. It’s been a while since I made a piece of furniture. This’ll either go fantastically well, spiraling downwardly to a horrific crash, or somewhere in between. But like golf, just gotta believe in my strokes and find my groove. Speaking of which, yesterday’s golf was a bit of a mixed bag. Hoping to get out sometime tomorrow. Have a good one, all.

  16. Good morning MGSpies from 'it's already getting light out and definitely springtime' in WNY on this day before the Community Call, work computer going online and starting the workday from the zero commute to the basement command center. Got in 9 holes yesterday in sunshine, still Caz park with nice greens as the fairways are far from ready but did run into longtime friend and played 5 holes together before he had to leave. Rain in the forecast due to arrive soon today and again on Friday so might be taking everyone for a vicarious view on the call tomorrow for the first time this year. Hope golf is a part of your day 42 And welcome! Jessica @Jessica Adams to the forum and a great place to start on the Good Morning Thread too! Hope to see your good morning's more often as well as posts around the forum where I am sure you are going to find this a family kind of friendly the way we all enjoy it being as it has always been.

  17. Right with you there. Watch a bunch and then when I did try to sleep the baby was up and before i knew it my alarm went off to get into work. I do have a tee time booked for 2 hours so we will see how that goes and I had a fun round yeterday at a course I don't particularily like, but was able to give the Newton 5 dot another good run. Was better for sure after a few minor tweeks, but think I found a few things out along the way and was able to get a few good photos.

  18. Good morning and Happy Friday Spies! Taking off today and heading to camp with my wife (and no kiddos) for our anniversary. Looking forward to a quiet and relaxing weekend with her - hopefully avoiding technology as much as possible. Should be a beautiful weekend in the 60s here in Georgia. Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

  19. Good morning all! Was cool and cloudy yesterday, but thankfully today should be a bit warmer as I get to out for my first round this afternoon. Also my brother-in-law should be stopping in today which was a nice surprise to find out about. He is usually pretty busy and lives about 2.5 hours away so visiting can be tough. Looking forward to a nice weekend, hopefully with some relaxation. Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

  20. Good morning spies and TGIF! Not much to report here, day of work followed by an away soccer match for my daughter. It will be a long day but totally worth it. My local golf retailer has their Spring Tent Sale this weekend so I’ll have to be sure to stop in and see if I NEED anything. I’d like to find a new pair of shoes and maybe some Vice Pro balls depending on what deals they have. Also need to look at hybrids for my wife. There, I have my shopping list ready Have a great day spies!

  21. Good morning MGSpies on Community Call Thursday from the wet springtime April showers of WNY eagerly awaiting the announcement of whateveritis Jamie @GolfSpy_APH has whetted the appetite for, as if Matt's @GolfSpy SAM birthday isn't reason enough to be thrilled, wait that is a trifecta Looking forward to seeing many of you friends on the call later on and possibly from the "fairways" as it is still a transformation process from park to golf course where I usually play, hope golf is a part of your day! 41

  22. Good morning, Spies! It's still dark, but the birds are chirping to wake the sun while FABWIFE and the dogs continue to snooze. Java is in my near future. I think I am having withdrawal symptoms with no outdoor golf since Sunday and travel preventing golf this weekend. Thank goodness for this forum; my twitching has slowed since logging on. I wish you all peaceful, productive, wonderful days.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

  24. Good morning y'all! (I think I am using that right as a yankee) More beautiful weather on tap this has been a wonderful spring stretch before we get inundated with bugs for about a month or a bit more. Yard work is getting done with this nice weather including some clean up from trees, leaves, and just general clean up. Have a great Wednesday everyone!

  26. Good morning to all on a wet Friday. Rain, rain and more rain. Thankfully, it’s Friday, espresso is delicious and it’s The Masters weekend. Can Tiger’s leg and body hold up to make it through the day. Will he make the cut. I’m hoping yes and yes. @cksurfdude see good things happen when you ask for help. Glad you got it sorted out @GolfSpy_APH great write up on the monthly recap. That should be a regular feature moving forward. Well done. Todays, daily chuckle is

  29. Morning All, Drinking some coffee and eating some breakfast this morning. Here in about 30 minutes I start my prep for my cat scan on my stomach and pelvis. I’ll probably going o tell me I am full of…all jokes aside, in Florida I was told I had diverticulosis. The docs here said the symptoms don’t point towards that at all. Like not even close. So away we go for that adventure. Later we are getting mulch for our house to help with numerous projects around the property. Hope everyone has a great day.

  30. Good morning my spies… It is Friday the departure day to hopefully a destination weekend ahead for you all. Busy day for me yesterday. Got to play Randy Radical and rage at the man… The Tax Man… As we all know there is very limited positivity in having me live in my subdivision… I only come in handy to the neighborhood twice a year.. Yesterday was one of those times. The reappraisal people hit the neighborhood only to find me outside on my lawn shaking my fist at the sky and losing an argument with myself. Pretty sure that was quite possibly the deciding factor in pushing the tax people to decided in favor of the tax protest filed by myself and some neighbors…. We will see what the decision on my protest is today. In other news of the day; the wife person wants to leave today for our “ couple’s special time “ I was under the impression this was only suppose to be ONE day of hell. Evidently, her high highness has some side excursions planned before going to the big event.. By all that is merciful, hoping I am able to survive and join you all on Sunday evening. If not, take care of yourselves and remember…..Perspective my friends, perspective…… edited to add: Good luck to @EnderinAZ with the medical procedure.

  31. Morning one and all...still rainy and cool here in Ottawa. Today is hopefully "fix Jean's measuring mistake while putting up the projector for the sim" day. When measuring for projector placement, I *may* have forgotten to measure my driver swing...and finding out I come to withing 2" of the projector when I swing the boom stick. The result: moving the projector 3' closer to the screen today, just to be safe. 14'. With my best friend in a ladder (I have vertigo). But dang if GSPro + Optoma GT2100HDR + Carl's Premium hitting screen combo look incredible!

  32. Good morning everyone! I slightly overslept this morning and I didn't know why. I still made it in plenty of time since I get to work insanely early. I'm just glad it's Friday and I have plans to play tomorrow. It's going to be wet as we have some storms coming in today. I hope all of you have a wonderful start to your weekend!

  35. Good Thursday morning spies. Walked out of work yesterday to the cool temps and high winds that had been present all day so I skipped the golf course. Stepped outside to grab the mail about 30 minutes after arriving at home and the sky was blue with a light breeze. Just a touch of that unpredictable Midwest weather. Temps are back into the 40s today with rain on and off all day. Soccer games tonight and tomorrow so maybe golf on Saturday when temps will still be in the 40s. Have a wonderful day spies!

  36. Good morning spies! Got called into work on my day off, but not totally mad as it looks like the rain would dampen my round today anyways. Played great in the cold yesterday, and thoroughly enjoying the Bridgestone Mindset balls! Think they are going to replace my Maxfli’s honestly. Having some coffee and making an egg sandwich for the road. Have a fantastic day everyone!

  37. Good Morning Spies! Happy Wednesday! Should be a steady work day which will help the day pass faster. Supposed to get in the mid 80's here too which is always nice. Planted a few tomato plants yesterday and mowed a little grass. Not sure what is in store for me this afternoon, maybe a little swing work? We will see... Have a great day everyone!

This is my first time posting in the Good Morning Thread! Hi everyone I have Mondays off, so my mornings are always an early round somewhere in the Los Angeles area. This was a view of the 18th green of the Wilson course at Griffith Park Golf Club. 7:00am and a brisk 46*. Happy Monday, and I hope you all have a great week ahead! ✌

  40. Good morning fellow spies and happy post Masters Monday. What a performance Scottie put on yesterday to run away with the championship. Truly in the midst of witnessing greatness in the game of golf. He has been on an absolute tear and if it continues I could realistically see him challenging for a handful more victories this year. Absolutely incredible. Had another article post to the main site today with some different strength exercises to add to your routine to boost your performance on the golf course! Would appreciate if you gave it a read and comment! https://mygolfspy.com/news-opinion/golf-performance-training-strongerfasterlonger/ Have a great day!

  42. Good morning all and happy Friday! Some excellent golf played yesterday in round one and looking forward to round two of the Masters today! Need some members of my pool crew to pick up the slack a bit so I can get into the mix . I am a criminal offender of changing my lineup repeatedly for pools like this, and it once again did more harm than good. Maybe this time I will learn my lesson lol. Heading to the in-laws cabin after work today to do some fishing, and hoping to squeeze a round of golf in when we get back Sunday, but yard work and general cleaning of the house beckons.

  44. Good morning everyone and happy Friday! I'm glad the work week is almost over since it's Masters weekend and my job just doesn't understand I would rather be watching it all day as opposed to working. They don't understand priorities. I had a great time on the call yesterday and can't wait for the next one. @cksurfdude I'm glad you got your thermostat issue rectified, Chuck. I hope you all have a good start to your weekend and that it's filled with golf whether your playing or watching it.

  46. Good morning spies! It is a chilly, windy morning this morning. Winds are supposed to be 20-30 mph all day with no sunshine. We've had such a nice few days recently, so it's going to suck that we are going through a couple of days here that are colder and windy. Hopefully, that all clears up and I can get out and play some golf this weekend! I hope you all have a happy hump day!

  47. MORNING MASTERS COVERAGE !!! WOO HOO! wake up with a cuppa and masters coverage reminds me of the Open Championship. Love watching early morning golf. Mama Nature opened up with some serious wind gusts and buckets of rain putting my afternoon round in serious jeopardy. Maybe I'll just do it anyway.... 60s and 70s on the horizon and I CAN'T WAIT. Would love to play 40-50 rounds this year, if not more. Monday is a state holiday for us up here in the birth of America, Patriots Day, and I'll be out on the course. Patriots' Day is an annual event, formalized as a legal holiday or a special observance day in six U.S. states, commemorating the battles of Lexington, Concord, and Menotomy, some of the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. The holiday occurs on the third Monday of April each year, with celebrations including battle reenactments and the Boston Marathon. Wishing nothing but the best for you all. Have a fabulous weekend and I hope you get to watch golf, play golf, practice golf, buy golf and enjoy golf.
