  1. Met up with RevKev and his mid-20’s friend John. John played the tips while Rev & I played the Whites at Seminole Lakes Country Club. John stayed even all day while Rev bested me. I shot a 47/46:93 and was glad I was able to finish. We were fighting 13 mph winds with gusts up to 22 mph. All in all, we had a great time.

  2. Had the club winter open on Friday, 4-ball best 2 scores to count. As a team we didn't do so well, steady but not good enough to get into contention. I played OK, but drove really well hitting 10/15 fairways. Highlight was the 1st tee. Been having a bit of banter with the assistant pro about how far I'm hitting the driver and he was the starter on the tee, par 4, 320y to the middle. We waited for our tee-off and said I would go last to wait for the green to clear... "You don't need to wait, you won't reach the green today" he said.... Cue a perfect drive, arrow straight down the middle. One bounce and rolled about 6 yards on Missed the eagle but tapped in for a birdie...

  3. Redeemed myself at a tough course in East Texas. I had vowed not to come back, but I couldn’t let her have the last word! Shot 79 (40/39). I lost three balls off the tee just because of the stupid blind tee shots! Oh well, I broke 80 which is ALWAYS the goal.

  4. I was getting a little stir crazy today and thought I'd run by the range and see if it was open. My mid range wedge game cost me in my last round and I felt like practicing it a little bit. I happened to get there about an hour before they closed, picked up a large bucket, and got to work. I realized my biggest problem was I wasn't accelerating through on the short shots. I started out picking targets and running through all my wedges and hitting to them. I moved on to full swing monitoring contact with foot spray and found out I'm hitting fairly consistent, just favoring the toe a bit PW 7 iron I'm still working on feeling like I'm throwing a frisbee with my left arm working on weight shift and when I get it right, I'm seeing improvement in consistency. I was even hitting good shots with my 5 wood. I had one where I fell into old swing habits and hit a dud. I hit some drivers after that. I moved on to simulated holes just to get the feel of switching clubs between shots and had to even pull out a 5 iron punch on the third because I was blocked out by a tree on the third hole. I played four holes this way and felt like I gave myself a good look at two putt bogeys on each one. My goal is to be playing bogey golf come spring and try to give myself an occasional shot at scores in the 80's. My confidence is starting to come back and it's nice to get out and hit some balls on such a beautiful day.

  5. So as mentioned previously I found myself in the market (at the worst possible time) for a new SUV. Well after a week of emailing, negotiating and testing a couple different ones. I took home a 2021 Highlander XLE Hybrid last night. So far I love it. But the question many of you wanted answer is, would it hold ALL of my golf bags if required. Well see for yourself. Here it is loaded up with two full stand bags snd a full cart bag. Still room for one more (I didn’t bring out my empty Titleist Light Weight bag. But it would have fit. And room for luggage if I was the chosen driver of a road trip! But since 95% of my driving is just me and occasionally if I take my clubs to an away course You see they fit nicely with the 3rd row seats up. I got 35 MPG on my trip into work this morning So I’m really looking forward to that savings.

  6. We're off work this week and one of the guys invited me to play a round with him, his son, and one of his son's friends. We decided to play a scramble with the old guys playing against the boys. We played at Moccasin Bend near downtown Chattanooga, a course I haven't played before. I'll play there again, it was fairly open and flat. We started off strong, winning the first nine by two, but fell apart on the back. We scored 88, I'm not going to gripe about that considering we both shoot in the 100's way too often. Those young guys can bomb it and if they ever get control over their clubs, they'll be good. My game was as solid as it's been in the last year, except for approaches in the 25-60 yard range. My ground contact was chunky and since it rained last night, that wasn't good. Driver was decent, I hit some good fairway woods and irons. I feel like I'm starting to see positive results from the work I'm putting in from the lesson. Some highlights from my round. First hole, hit fairway and had 138 to the pin. Hit 7 iron slightly right of the flag and rolled off the green. I hit another 7 iron on a par 3 that was 146 to the flag and hit it on a line at the flag and came up about 15 feet short. Two of the par 5's we used all my approaches and ended up on in regulation. The 18th was playing 480 hit a drive in the fairway with 268 left to the flag. I pulled 3 wood and hit one to 41 yards and chipped just past the flag. Even though they took us down in the end, it was a fun round and a nice day to be on the course.

  7. *** Personal Best Alert 74 *** I don't know what's going on of late. My level of play over the past handful of rounds has been as good as its ever been. We played Mesa Del Sol yesterday and I tied my personal best from over 30 years ago with a 37/37 . 2 bogies and one birdie on the front and one bogey on the back. The guys I played with are not our groups better golfers and, when we got in after the round to have a beer, they insisted I transfer my score onto a clean card - saying "we don't want our train wrecks tarnishing that performance" . They mentioned how consistent I was hitting everything and that I hit every fairway and green in regulation. I knew I hadn't, so we went back through the round and annotated those on the new card. The tally; 13/14 FIR and 12/18 GIR. 32 putts and no penalties. Putting for birdie more often and having short putts for pars is a game I hope stays with me a while longer. Hole 7

  8. For my birthday a few weeks ago, my wife told me to get a new driver. She told me I could go to Club Champion if I wanted. I think I would rather go to the local PGA Superstore and hit everything they have. I'm a lefty, so that will narrow the field quite a bit. I did a truegolffit a few weeks ago, and it put me in a Wilson D9, with a TSI1 as the 2nd choice. I would also really like to tit the new Cleveland Launcher XL and the Exotics C721. And I'll see what else they have. I also have a brand new Evenflow Max shaft that hasn't even had a tip on it yet waiting for me to give it a shot. Needless to say, fun times ahead!

  13. It was two weeks since I touched my golf clubs, but I got two better than expected rounds in this weekend. My ball striking was the really good, but I could not get any putts to fall for me to post better scores. I still have my goal set to get back in the 6 or better range for handicap by the end of the year. Also, it was the first rounds with my new fitted SIM2 (beast) driver. Saturday Sunday Score 85 84 GIR 3/18 7/18 AGIR 6/18 10/18 FIR 10/14 5/14 PUTTS 31 35

  14. I've decided to put to GC3 to some ball fitting. I used the MGS 2021 ball test as a starting point, then went to the local golf shop and bought sleeves of a number of the ones I was interested in. And since this is a slow time of year for golf, I decided to drag out this process as long as I can. So, my plan for this is to hit ~ 20 shots with each ball for each: 100y wedge, 7i, and Driver. I'm going to only do 3 balls at time so that the information is easier to parse. I'll do the wedge shots for the first 3 balls, then post the data, followed by the 7i and driver. I'll likely only do 1 set per day. After 3(or so days) and you all can see the data sets for 3 clubs for the 3 balls, I'll let you all pick "the winner". "the winner" will stay in and I'll redo the whole test with 2 other contenders. And to remove biases, I'm not going to tell you all which ball is which. I'll just give you the list of balls I'm testing right now. That way, if you want to guess at which is which you can. Bridgestone BX, Bridgestone BXS, Callaway Chrome Soft X, Callaway Chrome soft X LS, Vice Pro, Taylormade TP5X, Maxfli Tour, Srixon Z-Star and maybe a ProV1. So, that is the plan.

  15. Shot a 77 with the new sticks. Distances are just a little shorter than my gamers but these fly straight and are very easy to hit. A little more offset than I'm used to but nothing off putting. Had a blast! Last week I had a shaft pulling party one night.. wait.. that sounded pretty bad.. well, one night I decided to pull all the shafts and re-glue with new ferrules that I had lying around. I also added some subtle Mizuno blue paint fill and matching grips. All in I'm at $100 for a really fun and clean set of classics. Oh, and to keep with the theme, I picked up a new driver. Was lacing the fairways like I haven't done before. I'm beyond stoked about my first round with the STZ.

  16. I spun the wheel of mis-fortune this morning and @Sluggo42 's name came up. His game seems to be like a roller coaster ride. Playing well then the bottom falls out, then playing well again. I see this with a lot of you spies. The roller coaster analogy just seems to fit. You get on and you have a slow climb to the top just like getting your score or handicap down. Then all the sudden you drop to the bottom. Just like having a bad day. Then you have the twists and turns. Like a slice or a hook creeping in. Then a little uphill climb again. Now you are getting a little better. We will get back to this in a minute. Sluggo42 says he hits his irons better when he chokes up. The only time I get choked up is when a hot pink ball rolls by me. But he seems to get choked up fondling his irons. To each his own I guess! Lately ole Sluggo fell in love with this chick called Adele but she spells it differently “Edel”. He said he fell in love when he opened her box. Too Much Information I believe. Seems like she is doing all the putting for him lately. It’s a good thing too because she's a much better putter. Back to my roller coaster analogy. Have you ever noticed that so many golfers think they found the magic secret to playing golf? Then the next day it doesn’t work anymore or you lost the mojo. Sluggo has found and lost the secret so many times I stopped counting. Let’s break down a few since September shall we! It all started out like this: Really good round and only 25 putts. Right when I think I got this game by the tail, along comes a round where I literally stink, and I can’t even hit the stupid ball. Sorry my bad the Yelllow Ball was in play. Had a few consecutive rounds of stench golfing, and considering stepping away for a while. Yellow Ball can see the game between the ears took a break! Nice round today with an epic front 9. Shot ok, butt 33 putts. He blamed Edel for having gas and heard her fart. Boy if your driver could talk I’m sure he would have some things to say about the noises he hears on the tee box. I’m shooting darts, I haven’t mishit anything. I found the answer to fat hits. My streak of good play continues, in addition to my superb iron play is my driver and fairway woods. Driver has been a little fadey. Play the fade and it goes straight. I’m not picking on Sluggo, but this shows you that this is a typical pattern that most golfers fall into. It happens with the Pro’s too. Look what happened to Bryson yesterday in "The Match". So don’t feel bad when this happens. Don’t throw in the towel, work through it. Laugh it off, tomorrow will be better.

  17. Went out for a foggy nine with @Loki659. Great time. Very rusty. 51 (ugh). Been over a month since I last played. First round with Ventus. Driver was fade city. Couldn’t get my timing with it. Only one decent drive. Maybe I was trying to hard to impress our new member. Iron game was a mess. Every was missing right. Need a few more rounds with the Ventus before squashing it since on the range it has been brilliant. Should of have had a couple more pars. Looking forward to future rounds with Our new spy and meeting up with @twyatt700 again sometime.

  18. I'm lucky to have a 26'x26' attached garage with 10' ceilings. It's not finished or heated, but usually stays about 10 degrees above ambient temperature. I bought the following this summer in preparation: Cimarron Sports 10'x10'x10' cage net with target and baffle USA Turf 4'x4' Matzilla Mat Fiberbuilt Flightdeck Flightscope Mevo+ I built three 2"X3"x8' wood "clamps" that go around the 2"x6" rafters and are secured with 10" carriage bolts. The net secures to this structure with some bungee balls along the back walls of my garage, while the inner most side has a hook where I can secure the net when in use. When not in use I unhook the net and push it into the corner. The baffle net and target are attached to a 10' piece of EMT conduit that is secured to the wooden structure about a foot in front of the back wall of the net. The resulting cage is about 8'x8'x10'. I hold the corners down with some Amazon sand bags filled with pea gravel. I end up getting 13' of ball flight and 8' from hitting area to Mevo+. It took a little bit of fiddling, but I'm finding the Mevo+ to be very close to real life even with only 13' of ball flight to measure. This is the view of the whole setup as viewed by the Mevo+: I'll probably add a propane heater and crack a window for ventilation as we move further into winter. It was 39 degrees during my practice session today.

  19. Absolutely loving the home hitting setup (and my wife, who has been encouraging of me hitting balls whenever possible). Feel like I've been making a ton of progress on my swing since my last lesson. I texted the below image to my coach, which was the result of four warm up swings and nothing else: After I warmed up, I focused almost exclusively on hitting my 4 hybrid. I've always struggled with the longest clubs in my bag, so focusing on hitting my longer clubs is something I wanted to do now that I've gotten the net setup. The results were pretty good, as I was simultaneously focusing on contact and then also trying to see how fast I could swing on the Mevo+. My gapping seems to be pretty solid. There's a touch of overlap between my 4 hybrid, 4 utility iron and 5 iron, but that's not such a bad thing. At the end of my session I started to work on a wedge matrix, but that's going to need a lot of practice this offseason. I have a hard time getting good gapping between the half, 3/4 and full swing wedges. It seems I struggle keeping the same tempo when I change the backswing length, which leads to inconsistent distances. Something to work on!

  20. I have done very little in the way of practicing over the last while, but I'm going to pull out the puttout the next few evenings and see if I can track some putting stats with it. I really enjoyed this training aid even though it is extremely frustrating at times. With cold temperatures officially here it is unlikely that I'll be doing any outdoor practicing from now until spring even though technically courses are open.

  21. Ordered 2 dozen of these tonight with the free holiday shipping, they have been out of the optic yellow I still have a couple dozen of the TP5 Pix. I will alternate them to see which is the gamer. I had played Snell for about 3 years and still feel that I favor them to the Pix but nothing compares to head to head.

  22. Something showed up yesterday and they're not even for me.... SWMBO has a birthday coming up and after playing the best golf of her life this year she dropped her handicap to an 11. All the while complaining about the L shaft clubs in her G25's (went for lighter weight to help with ss). I found a set of G410's with SR shafts for her to try. About 1/2" longer too so we'll see how the adjustment turns out.

  23. Another sub 80 round yesterday at Coyote Wash 42/36 (par 71). The front included a double and triple . On #7 I went for my usual layup to the open peninsula of the lake but popped it up and it bounced sideways and got washed. I then repeated the sin splashing that ball. We had two threesomes and played a 3 man version of El Lobo. Each player takes sequential turns off the tee as the wolf with the others playing wolf hunters. The wolf must win the whole outright to win the two dimes. We only paid out 4 times... it's tough to win that format. Sure hope I can keep this trend rolling. If I only use my 11 rounds since getting to AZ, I'm a 8.8 .

  24. Played today, shot a meek 93. Wind was brutal and probably took an extra club if not two on each shot, especially approaches. Had chipped a lot better too but today chunked a couple. Was pretty damp from a storm last night but still not an excuse. Tough trend last couple rounds have been in the low 90s, need to get back to the 80s and beyond!

  26. I just want to take a moment and talk about being thankful for some of the people in my life. We're still waiting on my mother-in-law to come home from rehab, she's had a couple of setbacks with her MRSA and had to go back to the hospital twice. Hopefully, she's coming to stay with us around the first of December. One of the things we needed was to build her a wheelchair accessible ramp to be able to get her into the house. Well, one day I was talking to my buddy Jimmy at work. He mentioned it to his mother-in-law and she had some 2x6 boards she just gave us. He them mentioned it to his father-in-law who repairs mobile homes and he had just torn a ramp down and had some decking boards he gave us. My friend Ryan offered to help build the ramp, he builds houses and came over today in 34 degree weather and we worked on it. By we I mean he did the vast majority of planning and crafting of the frame and basically had me to fasten the deck boards, although it was a very good learning experience for this non handy guy. My feet are still frozen, but it was well worth it in order to be able to get my mother-in-law home after four months of bouncing between the hospital and rehab.

  29. I've been putting horribly the last few months but haven't had the motivation to make the time to work on it. Yesterday a couple family youngsters stopped by for a visit and they headed to the putting green to keep from getting bored. I joined in and while messing around had the one kid video my stroke with my phone. I figured out I had my shoulders waaaay open in set up and that had my stroke all messed up trying to keep it aligned with the putting line...an out to in to out stroke path. Squared up my shoulders which got my stroke more in line with the line of the putt and things got better quickly. Makes me mad at myself I didn't take a couple videos a couple months ago....would have saved a good bit of frustration.

  30. Obviously Tony and Rick missed a very important feature in the picture - the cart path - there's that little part that sticks out to the right side of the fairway - I hit a ball down the right rough line with a touch of draw - it hit the cart path and took off.

  41. I've worked in the alcohol industry. Every state prohibits a license holder from allowing outside alcohol into their license area. (It eliminates the possibility of a holder cutting off a drunk.) Depending on how aggressive a control agent gets, even a single case can result in a suspension in the liquor license. Multiple cases are a certain suspension, and a recurrence after a suspension probably will result in permanent revocation. While the agency may take into account how sneaky the person was who brought it in, they're not required to consider that. I've heard of country clubs around here who have kicked out members who did this. I do not know of any golf courses who have suffered suspensions here, but I do know of other private clubs that have (a VFW hall).

  44. After warming up on the range-- I basically do the same thing hit balls playing a imaginary golf round on my home course that I know well. When I go to the putting green after getting the feel some I basically putt out my round and chip when I remember I missed a green. Most people belt balls one right after the other on the range and I get some strange looks when they are resting etc. I guess it looks funny I hit a driver and assume I hooked it and have to make a knockdown low cut and then a wedge or hit the driver and go to the bag and pull like say a 6 iron. My practice time is limited now because of the physical restraints so I make the best of it. Before a round I may hit like 10 balls on the range with just a wedge to time myself up and get loose. If I can time my wedge up then I am ok so to speak. One of the reasons I hit whiffle balls in the yard with wedges mostly just keeping loose and timing it up

  46. Ok it is odd in most folks eyes. It is just me and the Wife now and the 2 dogs. We never cook traditional Thanksgiving dinner because we do not care for Turkey. Got some beef tips marinating for Kabobs on the grill---- She also has some Crab meat ( fresh Local) pulled out for crab and cheese stuffed Mushrooms. And believe it or not we do like stuffing so she is going to do some with beef gravy too. And the old Green Bean Cassarole. Right now it is cold and windy here and she has a pot of Pinto beans in the slow cooker for tonight and fried cornbread. One year when her mother was still living I did a huge low country boil. As in life in general we do not do things the traditional way. She just told me we had more crab and cheese mix than big mushrooms so later I am going to split some Jalepenos and do crab cheese stuffed peppers bacon wrapped

  47. Yellow Ball is not an instructor, YB is a destructor. Are you really sure you want my help? YB doesn't live up north. I have an allergic reaction to getting blue balls. Snow is a four letter word. YB isn't old enough to retire. I have to work a day job to afford all my trips to haunt you guys. So bear with me if I'm not quick on getting back to you. But then again, if I was retired I wouldn't get around as quickly as I do and would be complaining about all my aches and pains like the rest of you old farts!

I dug through some old family albums and found this old black and white picture. If you look real close you can see my Great Grandpa Yellow Ball. My oh my, what a handsome man.
