    The Good Morning Thread

This is my first time posting in the Good Morning Thread! Hi everyone I have Mondays off, so my mornings are always an early round somewhere in the Los Angeles area. This was a view of the 18th green of the Wilson course at Griffith Park Golf Club. 7:00am and a brisk 46*. Happy Monday, and I hope you all have a great week ahead! ✌

  2. It is no secret that L.A.B. Golf has taken off because of multiple wins on the PGA Tour and a greater professional presence overall. Its success in MyGolfSpy testing and the hype around the newly released L.A.B. DF3 has only increased its notoriety. What Is L.A.B.? L.A.B. stands for Lie Angle Balance. These putters, unlike other putters, are not toe-hang or face balanced. They are balanced to point at the target, meaning no twisting, no struggling to keep the face directed at the target—the putter does this naturally. As each golfer is unique in their putting stance and stroke, the fitting process for L.A.B. is crucial. L.A.B. has made this easy by way of their online submission. A simple step-by-step process is sent to L.A.B. and they use this video to dial in your specifications. L.A.B. is best known for their big and unique-looking DF 2.1, a putter that has many nicknames and certainly does not appeal to all golfers. This is where the DF3 comes in. Please welcome and congratulate our testers! @jbern @MattWillGolf @CFreddie @Cfhandyman @GolfSpy MPR @Steve F

  3. Who I am – MGS Tester Introduction My name is Chris and welcome. I am a 65 year old male and I live with my artist wife Sue and two huskies in Oakville, in the greater Toronto area in Ontario, Canada. To put things into perspective the province of Ontario is 1.5 times larger than the state of Texas and 4 times the size of the U.K. Why I am testing: I am very grateful to MGS and L.A.B. and excited by this opportunity. I am keen to see if the L.A.B. DF3 and its lie angle balance approach to putter design works as claimed. It was designed to eliminate torque and produce a repeatable swing. The DF3 is the smaller, sleeker version of its bigger brother, the directed force, DF2, but does it deliver the goods? It has gained significant traction on tour and begs the question of how it stacks up to my fitted reference putter(s). VERSUS But this is no ordinary Evnroll. It has been fitted and modified with a stability tour shaft and an Evnroll gravity grip. For more information on this and my putting statistics, see, What am I looking for in the L.A.B. DF3: I gave a lot of thought on how I would test this if given the opportunity before applying. I am a fairly decent putter averaging 31 to 32 putts per round based on my Arccos data. If it proves to deliver the putter more consistently to the ball and results in more one putts, less three putts and overall, less putts per round, it will be a candidate to go in the bag permanently. I am particularly interested in how it performs from 10’ feet and in. Does it offer good value for the money? My putter testing protocol including testing on Quintic to follow in a separate post. Moreover, thorough testing of the L.A.B. DF3 will focus me on improving my putting and working on my putting drills. So thankyou MyGolfSpy. Making those short putts is critical. Who I am: I am driven by challenges and the constant need to learn and improve and I’m passionate in what I do. I am also data driven and analytical in nature. Needless to say, I am a golf, data and equipment junkie. I have had many careers. After graduate school, I did medical research looking at factors involved in preterm labour. I then moved onto organ donation and transplantation, eventually running the organ donation program based out of Toronto General Hospital. Toronto General hospital (TGH) is one of the premier transplant centres and hospitals in the world. They pioneered both successful single and double lung transplantation in the eighties. I had the distinct pleasure of working in multi organ transplant in the early days (80’s/90’s) and worked with many brilliant and incredibly smart people. Where the driving principle was you do what’s best for the patient and what does the data show. What is the source of that data, is it evidence based, is it fair, balanced, and non promotional in nature. You had to know your stuff and be prepared for anything. Back then it was routine to work 24-36 hours straight procuring and transplanting organs. Think of the guy getting off the Lear jet in OR greens with a cooler. I was that guy. I’ve been in every teaching hospital and most ICU’s (intensive care units) across Canada and many in the US. No frequent flyer miles I’m driven by the need to learn, push myself and enjoy what I do. I then transitioned to career 3, moving to the “dark side” starting with Wyeth and then Pfizer in their Rare Disease group and the launch of Rapamycin for organ transplantation. So, I stayed in transplant, interacted with all the people I worked with for many years, although now in a different capacity. If you’re going to go to industry, it’s the best way to go. Over time, bleeding disorders (hemophilia) and growth disorders were added to my portfolio but the same guiding principle of doing what’s best for the patient and what does the data actually show, guided me. Career 4, presented itself during the pandemic and the opportunity to take early retirement with no more Zoom calls and the opportunity to be a full time golf aficionado and pickleball player was too irresistible to pass up. My other passions are building, home renovation and cooking. When I was young, I bought a water access shell of a cottage as my first property. Not being handy at the time, I proceeded to take courses in construction, carpentry, electrical and plumbing. I then proceeded to completely wire the cottage, plumb it, insulate it, drywall, install flooring, build the kitchen, bathroom, etc. I’ve built and rebuilt docks, decks, so hence the handyman moniker. There’s not much I can’t do, although with age comes wisdom. Golf: I have been playing golf on and off for 40 plus years. After not playing golf for 10+ years, I got back into golf at the age of 60. I was inspired by a friend who once said, golf is the only game you can play for 30 years and never improve. When I thought about it, it is rather true, so I was determined to do it right the second time around. At the time I was about a 25ish handicap. Hence lessons, fitted equipment and diligent practice. I was inspired again when I went to Tour Experience Golf (TXG) 5+ years ago and came out not only with expertly fitted and built clubs, but many new friends. I now go at least twice a year to tweak my setup. My current handicap is 6.3, but I have been as low as 4 or high as 8.5. Most of my rounds are in the 78 - 82 range. My home course is TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley featuring 3 courses all ranked within the top 60 courses in Canada and all 3 in the top 20 public courses in Canada. TPC Sawgrass, I’m the guy in the middle in the blue and black. I love scenic, challenging courses, especially mountain or coastal courses. What drives me is hitting good shots and being consistent. My philosophy is if you hit good shots the score will “usually” take care of itself. If you don’t like the score, play better. I am competitive, however, I play more for the joy of the game. I strive to improve each year and keep father time at bay. Now, my day job is golf, pickleball and my two huskies. Myah (front) and Hazel (rear) Thank you for your patience and understanding in reading my introduction.

  4. Good morning everyone! It's a beautiful Tuesday morning and I'm sitting in the parking lot of work hoping I can pass the check to get to return to work. My BP was good this morning and I hope it stays that way. I hope y'all have a great day!

  5. Just a quick side note update - Since the Arias test (some before we technically considered as 2024 reviews as they were completed in 2024) we have selected roughly 100 members for member testing so far (that just kinda blew me away when I realized that last night) Going a little deeper though we have 51 new members selected for member testing this season. Over half! Which is really cool. Note that this does not include the 30 for Shot Scope and Callaway or Titleist Whitebox opportunities. So for all of you who are new to the forum, get into the forum and your chances at being selected are huge!

  6. Hey fur therapy is a real thing!! According to an analysis by the NIH of other studies... "The BP lowering effect is especially evident during direct contact with the pet." And this from Harvard Medical School... "Several studies show that blood pressure goes down when a person pets a dog." .. gotta love science!!

  9. Good morning MGSpies from the downtown parking spot by the office building with Rameses B's Footprints (one of the best 1:42 songs IMHO) on Pandora and coffee in the mug enjoying the first light of day, thinking about Jason's @sirchunksalot low pressure and lower stress to remain calm with his day. Played Caz park again yesterday and this time they had been working at changing the parkland back to golf course cutting fairways on the far side of the creek but still just a good short rough length, good exercise with golf and a starting point for 2024 and getting ready for Kingsmill. Hope to do it again today. Hope golf is a part of your day to 44

  14. Morning spies! Jeesh, a guy steps away for 10 hours and has 122 new posts notifications to catch up on! Dropping off the kitty fosters for transport towards their new forever homes this morning, then driving an hour each way to get a friend's dog back from his ex, then it's golf time! 18 or 27, depending on time restrictions. Catch up with everyone tonight! Have a great day!

  17. I was wandering through the golf store when I suddenly realized that there were so many things there that needed to be adopted. As a result, I unselfishly adopted a new pair of ECCO G5s. It had been days since my pair of Skechers died, and I thought the best thing I could do to hold their memory dear in my heart was to adopt a new pair. I also collected new golf shirts and pants as they also seemed lonely at the store in the discounted area. I was worried the bad people at the store would destroy them if I didn't adopt them, so I was really feel like I was doing the world a favour.

  19. Kenny, I tend to suffer from white coat syndrome whenever I get my pressure taken, I was sitting in the waiting room at the clinic for at least 20 minutes and I'm the room for another 10 and it still came back as high. It's currently sitting at 131/85 as I'm sitting here with the dogs on my lap. I'm glad to hear it doesn't go up much for you when you're exercising, I was told it would raise it quite a bit and I'm really wanting to get out and start walking or something to get some exercise. I mean, we have a pretty big golf trip coming up and it's bad enough y'all are going to see my limping around after getting off my feet for a while. I want to be in decent enough shape to not be breathing to heavily walking up hills.

Hope you get it worked out Jason. My BP is high every time I go to Cadiac Rehab therapy. They don’t let anyone participate if BP is 170 or higher. I take my BP at home before I go to therapy… normal-ish. Get there, sit waiting for 20 minutes and it’s 170+. So I have to sit for 10 minutes; they retake my BP and it’s 151. During the cardio exercise, it goes up to 162; after the cardio and cool-down stretching, it’s 120. Funny… it never gets above 145 until my next Rehab visit, and we go through the same routine all over again. Doc put me on another heart med… amlodipine. I’m already on COREG.

  21. In the most recent MyGolfSpy testing for stand bags, the Ghost Golf Anyday bag was named Best Premium Golf Bag. It was a great showing for a newer company that their founder, Anand Nalia, says is simply “a humble towel company.” Who is Ghost Golf? Founded in 2022, Ghost Golf actually did start as a “humble towel company.” Their first innovation was a magnet that made the towel significantly more user-friendly. They then branched into other areas such as belts, clothing, bags and other accessories. With an ever-expanding lineup, Ghost Golf looks to make a significant impact by providing premium quality products that have an elite level of attention to detail. Their prices may be high but so is the quality of their products. Please welcome and congratulate our four testers! @cnosil @Shlax @Samuel09152 @arodrig29

Good morning Spies on a Tuesday which shows promise of sunshine and mid 60's temperatures here. Best wishes all goes well Jason, @sirchunksalot and you get everything under control. Practiced a bit last evening on the practice green at a course close to the house and hoping to do it again later this evening too. I think that white coat syndrome is what I have. I’ve never really had much of a problem before my heart attack; my primary care visits were always around 130/80. It was high while I was in the hospital, and it never really came down to pre-hospital levels. My heart doc is still trying to find a suitable cocktail. My BP is 120/75 in the morning when I get up and when I go to bed. Mid-morning it goes up to a high of 140/90. Getting out and walking after meals is the best time for BP and blood sugar. I hear you about getting in shape; well, better shape… round is a shape, but not the one I prefer. Lost a bunch of weight a couple of years ago, but I have plateaued and can’t seem to get the rest off me! Don’t wait!! It gets harder the longer you put it off and older you get. I need to change up a few things before our trip to Kingsmill. Not sure if I’ll survive hot and humid; I like hot and dry!!

I’m absolutely thrilled, overjoyed, honoured and very grateful to MGS for having been selected as one of the testers for the L.A.B. DF3 Putter and what a great group of testers I have to work with. 30. Good evening spies….. If you listen intently, you might be able to hear the whimpering outrage of an old man on the Tex-Mex border. Work wise there was not much theft or damage on the work site. Nothing belonging to “ Those People “ was misappropriated or damaged. However as I was preparing to return to the “ Dark Kingdom “; you-know-who sent me a text including the following pictures. The “ Princess of Pain “ informed me that since I couldn’t play golf and might not be able to ever play as often as I had; she was reallocating and reassigning some of my retired golf gear to other functions. The would be “Empress of Everybody”; stated she was starting with this bag that hadn’t seen sunlight since the start of the last millennium. She stated that it will make a nice little yard tool carry-all. The woman has NO clue where we keep or what kind of yard tools we even have. Instead of going directly back to the serfdom of husband hood, I might meander around looking for a Cartel recruitment center and see if the elderly can enlist. Enjoy the rest of your evening my spies. You might want to at least consider hiding your golf gear. You know; just in case

    The Good Morning Thread

Good morning everyone. Thunderstorms overnight and no more golf on the calendar for a little more than a week as work and kids sports fills it up for a spell. Will still find a way to hit the range for some practice time which my short game and putting will greatly appreciate. Using Shot Scope has been great for the data but it really throwing off my flow when putting and my green reading has taken a little bit of a hit. Starting to get the hang of it a little better but it still is a little more work than I like. Officially begin counting down the days to summer. Only 29 students days to go. With an A/B alternating day schedule, that means 14 or 15 days with each group of kids. We got this! Hope everyone has a great day ahead.

    How'd you play?

Played 9 yesterday (so far have 3 x 9 hole rounds plus 3 x 9 practice rounds) and am happy to report there's been some progress - overall scoring still high but trending down (well at least for now ) - 52, 51, 48. Got off the tee ok (Par 4s and 5s) .. with the help of two lucky tree saves that dropped the ball in a playable position on 8 and 9... .. and short game was ok - starting to get a little less tentative on chipping & pitching, and starting to get a little better distance control on the first putts. But, except for one solid 6i where I hit the green from 150 (yay!), almost everything else in-between tee to green was messy (boo!) and needs a lot more work... Chunked, thinned or topped a lot of second and third shots, including the Par 3s...

  36. Thank you for the concern and suggestion. I had been feeling rather grownup about making the “ painful “ decision of passing on getting one of the Ghost Bags because of the uncertainty of my playing status. I am NOW so glad I passed on the bag. Can you imagine the horror of coming home and finding that the “ Decorating Duchess “ had turned the Ghost Bag into a planter!!

  42. My final review is a tad delayed, but I have a good reason! See below. (And the final review will be up today in short order.) Let's Talk about the Swap I apologize in advance for this long post, but the truth is in the details here. I am addressing a new and different Qi10 model for the first time. So I am going to try to go all the way down the rabbit hole. If you, dear reader, have followed this thread, you already know that @GolfSpy_BEN is a very gracious dude, that I struggle to contain driver spin historically, and that he and I last week, at the very end of our review period, executed a swap of my tester "standard" Qi10 model for his Qi10 LS model. Yesterday I embraced the chance to hit the LS model on the range very briefly, and then play the LS model in a round of 18 at Eagle Creek Golf Course on Indy's west side. I played the Qi10 LS at a loft sleeve setting of 7.5* and -300 RPM, at 44" of length on the (wonderful) ACCRA FX 3.0 140 M2 shaft. I weighted the driver at D4, which required some (or a lot of) lead tape . . . . . . and played the Bridgestone Tour RBX MindSet golf ball as part of the multi-member review here on the forum. (Many thanks to Bridgestone and MGS for that testing opportunity also!) The result? In two words: Performance and Potential For me and my particular swing, the Qi10 LS performed significantly better! The weather was warm and sunny, but the wind increased steadily throughout our round, finally landing at a consistent 20-30 mph wind during the back nine. Indy received more than 3 inches of rain in the days preceding the round. The results will show that. Here are the specifics on the 9 driver holes: Hole 2 - Par 4 365 yards This was a strong start. It is important on this hole to hit fairway left (which I seem to never, ever do) or carry the right bunker and avoid getting into or behind the trees on the right. The Qi10 LS delivered a strong drive into a gusty crosswind that carried the bunker and came to rest at 258 yards. I was very pleased. Hole 5 - Par 4 428 yards User error, as I hit far into the heel-side of the clubface. That cost me distance, but look at that straight drive that found the middle of the fairway. The Qi10 LS's forgiveness helped me a great deal here. Hole 6 -- Par 5 543 yards This drive confused me, as I felt like it was good contact and in the middle(ish), but I did not feel the compression or hear that confirmation on strike. Still, I found fairway, if not the distance I expected. I suspect I hit it too low. Hole 7 -- Par 4 408 yards Here comes the wind! Straight at us, 20 mph+. And now the Qi10 LS delivers, with a pretty good piercing of the gusts, landing at 232 yards in the fairway. This is the shot I will recall a long time, as this was the first time I heard the Qi10 LS deliver more of a "bang" at contact rather than a clicky/ish (Stealthy?) pop. It felt great; the compression of the ball was evident. Everyone in my group commented. "That sounded and looked different!" Remember the wet conditions - there was no roll-out at all. Into that wind, I'll gladly accept the 232 yards fairway middle result. Hole 9 -- Par 5 528 yards Remember user error? Yuck. This was my classic brain fade/unfinished swing/high slicey fade balloon ball. But it still went 213 yards into that wind and remained playable. This was definitely not the driver's fault. Hole 10 -- Par 5 469 yards This hole is easy. If you don't take too long in the clubhouse, get stiff, forget everything you ever knew about golf, or hit into a hurricane. I did all that. Shots 2 and 3 on this hole were worse. Did I mention the tee box is elevated and aimed directly into God's own oscillating fan (cranked to 11)? But it went straight!?!? Again, not the driver's fault. Hole 13 -- Par 4 372 yards Finally a hole where the wind helps a bit, as it still crossed the fairway but pushed a little too. I hit a bomb (by my standards), that rolled maybe (only) 10 yards on the wet turf, for a very playable 263 yard result. (Pay no attention to the idiot chunking his gap wedge on shot 2.) Hole 16 -- Par 4 370 yards More crazy wind, and a unique crazy pull by the author. I blame the wind. You, dear reader, should blame me. Hole 17 -- Par 5 433 yards Yes - more nutty wind in our faces. But I was glad to hit a ball that carried 238 yards, and nestled in at 243 yards (wet!), on this short par 5. This set up the solid hybrid shot 2, and boo-yah! wedge shot 3, that yielded a tap-in putt and, unusually, the only birdie our group could muster on this day. Summary I give the Qi10 LS very high marks for its first post-swap round. For me and my swing, I found the face to be more lively than the standard model, distance was better as a result, and with the lower spin forgiveness was just as good if not better for me. I think it has great potential, and I look forward to getting to know it better and updating this thread with additional results. I will post my final review of the standard Qi10 very soon. But like every Star Wars movie or series or novel or cartoon or whatever (except that rogue one), this will not be the end.

    Burger Talk

I have so many different ways to enjoy a burger. Always medium, never more. Just a little pink. I can go old school with colby jack cheddar and bacon. Swiss bacon and guacamole. Some Korean BBQ beef and kim chee. Hawaiian mode with pineapple. And yes, @GolfSpy_APH, an egg over easy is always so good on a burger. Use the fries to mop up the runny yoke. Dang, now I really want a burger.

    How'd you play?

Lol it happens! My first round out I shot an 84 in a hurricane, then followed it up with a 51 9-hole outing and cool even 100 the following week on a perfect day. Only had 3 penalty strokes and three three-putts across both poor outings, I just couldn't get anywhere close with my irons (normally one of the stronger parts of my game). As Joe Dirt once said, "You just gotta keep on keepin' on!"

  50. Back from my fitting at TXG (Tour Experience Golf – Club Champion Canada) with the man himself, Ian Fraser. All I can say is what an awesome and thoroughly fun experience. He really knows his stuff. Incredibly knowledgeable. I learned so much. Best fitting experience I've had so far. It didn't just meet expectations, it far exceeded them. A few observations, in Canada, Tour Experience Golf (TXG), is now rebranded as Club Champion Canada. While the name on the door has changed, everything else from the staff, Foresight launch monitors, Quintic putting monitor, shaft matrix, build shop all remain the same. Ian Fraser is the GM of the Canadian operations. Mike Martysiewicz is the Director of Club building and fitting. Ian and the quality and excellence of his staff remain consistently superb. I know exactly what to expect and what I’m getting when I come to them. A very very happy customer.
