  1. I can't wait Derek! I'm actually planning to get a round in Saturday with some guys from work and it's going to be great to be out on the course after a couple of less than stellar weekends. When though I haven't seeing a club in a couple of weeks, I'm planning on having a good time and not being overly concerned on what I shoot, I just want to play.

    Forum Community Calls

Oh what a feeling to be on the Community Call again from a golf course! seems like forever since I last joined a call from last year's regular course Elma Meadows GC along Buffalo Creek. Today was from my old regular course Cazenovia GC along Cazenovia Creek in South Buffalo bordering my town of West Seneca. That "stream" in the UK would be called a "river" and that ball under the tree was 2 feet from escaping like @Yellow Ball off for a swim down a 20 foot high and steep embankment. And you got it right I am trying to get back to my 20 handicap before Kingsmill AND trying to train the clubs and balls to miss the unplayable parts of the course! Thanks Jason! I'm always thinking of you when I connect in from a golf course to give you at least one vicarious round a week to be out there with me and 40 days tomorrow until we get to do it for real at Kingsmill

Another great call with a lot of discussion and topics covered. Another week with a lot of participation, 26 members on at various times all providing questions or answers through both the call itself and chat feature. Pretty cool for me to see Derek @EasyPutter on the course, especially since I was still at work and could only hope for that opportunity today. @Cfhandyman great video, I watched it after getting home, and thanks for providing some insight into the whole production during the Community Call. Already looking forward to next week's call with the yet to be announced guest.

  9. Another week and another great call with various topics of discussion. Especially enjoyed the insight to @Cfhandyman's appearance on the CC channels fitting video as well as the discussion around swing styles/methods to gain speed while maintaining control.

  10. Hi everyone, This is Mike Carroll, the owner of Fit For Golf. Thanks to MGS for setting up this test, and it's great there is some interest. I'll try my best to follow the thread here and answer questions. Regards, Mike

  11. @sirchunksalot thank you for your kind words. I had a lot of fun doing this. It helps that I know Ian and Mike well and have been going to TXG for years and implicitly trust their advice and recommendations.

  12. Was able to get 9 holes in tonight before the rain really picked up. Overall I'd say the F-2 performed pretty well. Here are my stats compared to other Arccos 4 handicaps. Ended up with 2 one putts, 6 two putts, and 1 three putt from 48 feet. Best putt of the round came on the last hole where I made a 25' uphill, left to right birdie. Worst putt(s) came from the 6-9' range where I was ice cold. 6-9' was also my worst range over the last 50 rounds. I think I get hung up on trying to play the perfect amount of break and have the putt die at the hole rather than add a little speed to take some break out of the equation.

    The Good Morning Thread

We fortunately have a physical therapist at my office. She gave me some stretches and exercises to help. It felt better all day so I’m taking that as a positive! My son had a blast on the mower tonight. He put on his ear muffs and glasses and said “let’s do this” with two thumbs up!

  14. Good evening, Spies! After a day's work and the two-hour drive to the next port of call, I decided to officially begin the Fit For Golf test here at the hotel. I won't repeat the semi-detailed description I put on the testing thread, but here it is: FFG Workout #1
    2 points
  15. Here we go, gang! My first official FFG workout, using the home bands and dumbbells protocol. Only I'm not at home, I had one band with me, the hotel had a mismatched set of dumbbells, but it did have a cable machine which I used in place of heavier bands. So I got the workout done with what was available. After the warmup session and first superset were completed in my room with that one band, I went down to the fitness center for the second and third supersets. None of it was super hard, but after three supersets with no more than 45 seconds rest between anything, I was very happy to finish and even happier to see this on the app:

  16. If it was serious golf, Grant Horvat hands down. If it was to have a fun round, Bob Does Sports. Cheers.

  21. Another option to consider is the use of a counter balanced putter grip, like the Evnroll gravity grip. The Evnroll gravity grip is a counter balanced grip. It has an EVA foam body molded in a deep V shape. A 70 gram 10” steel rod is installed in the bottom of the V running the entire length of the grip. According to Evnroll, by positioning the weight directly under and a half-inch away from the shaft, the hands can feel the position of the putter face. Tying the hands to the putter face promotes keeping the putter’s face angle square thru the entire hitting area. This virtually eliminates face rotation at impact. This heavier-than-usual grip weight allows for more weight in the putter head. The result is a greater overall weight for increased stability and accuracy, while maintaining an ideal swing weight for optimum feel and distance control.

  22. I regularly listen to the Club Junkie Podcast with Brian Knudson. He commented that the cappuccino color on his Mezz putter looks much better in person than what you see on the website and in pictures. He also did a podcast with the DF3 putter which he got in platinum.

  23. Nobody has seen a pink build. I personally don't have a problem with the "Bubba" model, but boy oh boy, I can just hear the razzing on the golf course. Mind you when I consistently make those 5-6 footers, that will shut them up. Look, if enough people demand it, I'm open to getting and testing it. So who wants to see me in pink?

  24. I love all the colors they've added somewhat recently. From what I can tell, the cappuccino looks

  25. I hate you! I am looking to get the DF3 in orange. I will embrace the goldfish because of Ted Lasso. It is an attitude that is especially important when it comes to putting. “You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It’s a goldfish. You know why? It’s got a ten-second memory. Be a goldfish.”

  26. I am awaiting a dialog with the L.A.B. Golf fitter. My initial reply from them last week was for a shaft length of 34.5" and 68° which is 1 degree flatter from their standard lie. This is the configuration I am looking at the moment.

  28. Yesterday evening, we had a call with Mike Carroll to have a chance for any Q&A we might have since the app is officially out for Android users (iOS folks likely have a couple more weeks). I found it very useful and look forward to getting going. I plan to start Monday 4/22 with a home-based workout focusing on speed. One question I had for him was how to incorporate speed training (SuperSpeed, Stack, etc.) into my workouts. By way of background, I was one of the forum testers of SuperSpeed back in 2020 and have done little more than some maintenance workouts since that summer (I saw incredible results, BTW 102 mph to start, 120 mph at the end). He suggested I try incorporating SuperSpeed into my FitForGolf workout: do the FFG dynamic warm-up; do the SuperSpeed protocol; then finish up with the FFG workout I have chosen. Since I am planning on doing a home-based workout, it should be entirely feasible to do as he suggested.

  29. I got my second round in today with the new V5 from shotscope and the mindset balls. The mantra for today's round was focus, and be in the moment (mostly, not reliving a bad shot when it comes). Today's round while not my best, it was for sure the easiest round to manage my play and expectations. Early comparisons suggest this is working for me (while the tee shots are lower, fairways hit were much higher and putting was significantly higher for strokes gained). Last Year (2023) Today's round There really should a metric for calmness, I can't say enough how much easier the round felt today focusing on the mind set philosophy. Resting tomorrow, practice round Saturday and a 4 ball Match play event at Tehama on Sunday Happy Golfing....

  30. Some great thoughts here - as I've mentioned before, I've been toying with the idea of a CB putter. And based on that article, I (like @jbern) could be a good candidate to go CB as I typically struggle on lag putting. Regardless, I plan on talking to my fitter about the CB option - who knows what could happen! @Cfhandyman - thanks for sharing the gravity grip, as I've never heard / hit one before. Curious if this could work on a LAB, given the grip differences with the press grips they normally sell with their putters. Plus, I'd have to imagine it could throw off the balanced weight of the putter, right? Also, I'd LOVE to see (someone else) in a pink head - I don't think I could pull that trigger.

  31. Finally Testable!!! The weather here in NE Ohio has been very uncooperative lately. In any case, Here I go. Temp- 62 Degrees Light Wind <5mph Rain/Storms last night so Distance was not all I hoped for. My test was against The Calloway Supersoft Matte Green and the Kirtland Signature Plus. I played 18 at a metro-parks course that suits my game. The format I went with was to alternate Tee shots on the first nine with Kirtland and then play both balls from the tee shot landing spot. I did this on both the front and back but switched to Calloway on the back nine. I felt this would give me a more rounded experience with the ball for most of the shots I would experience in a regular round. My initial impressions were -surprising. I loved the sound off the face compare to both balls and most of my errant shots were still very playable. I did have some WTF Shots as usual but my misses with the mindset were definitely more playable than my other balls. I think the Mindset philosophy helped me to minimize my errors and see the shots in a different way. For me it was as if my missed shote were somehow more playable than the other balls. I mentioned the rain/storms last night and that caused several plugs which killed my distance off the tee but helped me stick some otherwise would be off the green shots. I tried to stay as consistent as I could with my swing and noticed an increase of G.I.R shots as opposed to either of the other balls. My putting was also better than usual but that might be due to a new Odessey mallet I picked up. (More to come on that). For the conditions, I'd say that the Bridgestone outperformed the Calloway off the tee and most of my second shots of around 200 yds and was comparable to the Kirtland on approach shots. My Weakness is off the green. I tried to be consistent but I seem to be afraid of committing to a shot and this kills me back and fourth from green side to greenside. If the cost is comparable, I would have no trouble switching to the Mindset right now. The focus point helped me take my eye off the club and create a new focal point for club face delivery. I felt better about my pre-shot routine than I ever have before. I want to thank Golf Spy and Bridgestone for the opportunity to test and thus improve my own game.

  32. @arodrig29 Thanks. Im sure I’’ll love it and I’m so excited about getting it which is why I’m so frustrated about it being held up. The worst part is after receiving the notification last Wednesday I thought I’d have it by now but it hasn’t even shipped yet

  33. @buckpillar I hope they can get things figured out with your mother-in-law. @RichL85 I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law and I hope they can get him taken care of. @Cfhandyman, I'm almost through the TXG video and I have to say I'm enjoying the banter between you, Ian, and Mike. I am extremely jealous of your ball striking ability.

  37. i had the same dilemma...luv my 2.1 but as a self diagnosed certifiable club ho i couldn't resist and now have the DF3 too...it is every bit as good as the 2.1 (imo) but the DF3 does win on looks (again imo) and the the EE alignment option is working just as i hoped which is point and shoot (i am a find the straight putt putter tho)...just food for thought

  38. Lovely looking course @Northern Monkey - where do you play? Glad you're getting out, work has been mental so looking forward to the weekend when I aim to get down both days to at least the putting green for more work. I've got rounds booked for next week as we have ANZAC day here which is a public holiday. I've also got some time lined up with my father in law at a local indoor facility where they have PuttView (i.e. where it traces out your line from above and shows how close to optimum speed/line you've got).

  40. I had a great save today with the Lob Wedge. When I got home from golf, I pitched my wallet into the tray by the door and missed. It bounced behind the TV. I grabbed my 60° and scooped it right out of there without moving furniture. Does that count?

  41. Makes no sense. Well he actually would beat himself due to his putting. Now that he’s switched putters his strokes gained has gone way up and he will rarely beat himself now
    1 point
  42. Scheffler is a plodder (not a plonker ) who has great technical, mental, emotional and planning skills, very much like Jack Nicklaus. Unlike others, he rarely beats himself. Of course, we were saying that about Jordan Spieth, Colin Morikawa. Rory Mcllroy, Jon Rahm, Brooks Kopek, Cam Smith and Justin Thomas not too long ago. The media is always in a hurry to coronate a new King!

  43. Scottie leads in all the important strokes gained category. He is the best golfer right now. He understands his game, what he wants to do and what not to do on the course. He doesn’t let what’s happening around him influence his decisions. He couldn’t get to conservative because that opens the door for mistakes to happen on his part. They have a strategy for each hole and they stuck to it. golf comes down to who can execute the game plan the best
    1 point
  44. cnosil

    Is Scottie sinister?

IMO, comes down to the mental game. All the PGA players have exceptional talent but the mental course management mistakes are where they tend to falter. Morikawa and a few others in their post round interview said they got too aggressive and tried to force things. I think Scheffler is just able to maintain the same mental presence no matter where he is on the leaderboard and continue to play a fundamentally sound course management strategy.
