  1. Who I am – MGS Tester Introduction My name is Chris and welcome. I am a 65 year old male and I live with my artist wife Sue and two huskies in Oakville, in the greater Toronto area in Ontario, Canada. To put things into perspective the province of Ontario is 1.5 times larger than the state of Texas and 4 times the size of the U.K. Why I am testing: I am very grateful to MGS and L.A.B. and excited by this opportunity. I am keen to see if the L.A.B. DF3 and its lie angle balance approach to putter design works as claimed. It was designed to eliminate torque and produce a repeatable swing. The DF3 is the smaller, sleeker version of its bigger brother, the directed force, DF2, but does it deliver the goods? It has gained significant traction on tour and begs the question of how it stacks up to my fitted reference putter(s). VERSUS But this is no ordinary Evnroll. It has been fitted and modified with a stability tour shaft and an Evnroll gravity grip. For more information on this and my putting statistics, see, What am I looking for in the L.A.B. DF3: I gave a lot of thought on how I would test this if given the opportunity before applying. I am a fairly decent putter averaging 31 to 32 putts per round based on my Arccos data. If it proves to deliver the putter more consistently to the ball and results in more one putts, less three putts and overall, less putts per round, it will be a candidate to go in the bag permanently. I am particularly interested in how it performs from 10’ feet and in. Does it offer good value for the money? My putter testing protocol including testing on Quintic to follow in a separate post. Moreover, thorough testing of the L.A.B. DF3 will focus me on improving my putting and working on my putting drills. So thankyou MyGolfSpy. Making those short putts is critical. Who I am: I am driven by challenges and the constant need to learn and improve and I’m passionate in what I do. I am also data driven and analytical in nature. Needless to say, I am a golf, data and equipment junkie. I have had many careers. After graduate school, I did medical research looking at factors involved in preterm labour. I then moved onto organ donation and transplantation, eventually running the organ donation program based out of Toronto General Hospital. Toronto General hospital (TGH) is one of the premier transplant centres and hospitals in the world. They pioneered both successful single and double lung transplantation in the eighties. I had the distinct pleasure of working in multi organ transplant in the early days (80’s/90’s) and worked with many brilliant and incredibly smart people. Where the driving principle was you do what’s best for the patient and what does the data show. What is the source of that data, is it evidence based, is it fair, balanced, and non promotional in nature. You had to know your stuff and be prepared for anything. Back then it was routine to work 24-36 hours straight procuring and transplanting organs. Think of the guy getting off the Lear jet in OR greens with a cooler. I was that guy. I’ve been in every teaching hospital and most ICU’s (intensive care units) across Canada and many in the US. No frequent flyer miles I’m driven by the need to learn, push myself and enjoy what I do. I then transitioned to career 3, moving to the “dark side” starting with Wyeth and then Pfizer in their Rare Disease group and the launch of Rapamycin for organ transplantation. So, I stayed in transplant, interacted with all the people I worked with for many years, although now in a different capacity. If you’re going to go to industry, it’s the best way to go. Over time, bleeding disorders (hemophilia) and growth disorders were added to my portfolio but the same guiding principle of doing what’s best for the patient and what does the data actually show, guided me. Career 4, presented itself during the pandemic and the opportunity to take early retirement with no more Zoom calls and the opportunity to be a full time golf aficionado and pickleball player was too irresistible to pass up. My other passions are building, home renovation and cooking. When I was young, I bought a water access shell of a cottage as my first property. Not being handy at the time, I proceeded to take courses in construction, carpentry, electrical and plumbing. I then proceeded to completely wire the cottage, plumb it, insulate it, drywall, install flooring, build the kitchen, bathroom, etc. I’ve built and rebuilt docks, decks, so hence the handyman moniker. There’s not much I can’t do, although with age comes wisdom. Golf: I have been playing golf on and off for 40 plus years. After not playing golf for 10+ years, I got back into golf at the age of 60. I was inspired by a friend who once said, golf is the only game you can play for 30 years and never improve. When I thought about it, it is rather true, so I was determined to do it right the second time around. At the time I was about a 25ish handicap. Hence lessons, fitted equipment and diligent practice. I was inspired again when I went to Tour Experience Golf (TXG) 5+ years ago and came out not only with expertly fitted and built clubs, but many new friends. I now go at least twice a year to tweak my setup. My current handicap is 6.3, but I have been as low as 4 or high as 8.5. Most of my rounds are in the 78 - 82 range. My home course is TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley featuring 3 courses all ranked within the top 60 courses in Canada and all 3 in the top 20 public courses in Canada. TPC Sawgrass, I’m the guy in the middle in the blue and black. I love scenic, challenging courses, especially mountain or coastal courses. What drives me is hitting good shots and being consistent. My philosophy is if you hit good shots the score will “usually” take care of itself. If you don’t like the score, play better. I am competitive, however, I play more for the joy of the game. I strive to improve each year and keep father time at bay. Now, my day job is golf, pickleball and my two huskies. Myah (front) and Hazel (rear) Thank you for your patience and understanding in reading my introduction.

  2. It is no secret that L.A.B. Golf has taken off because of multiple wins on the PGA Tour and a greater professional presence overall. Its success in MyGolfSpy testing and the hype around the newly released L.A.B. DF3 has only increased its notoriety. What Is L.A.B.? L.A.B. stands for Lie Angle Balance. These putters, unlike other putters, are not toe-hang or face balanced. They are balanced to point at the target, meaning no twisting, no struggling to keep the face directed at the target—the putter does this naturally. As each golfer is unique in their putting stance and stroke, the fitting process for L.A.B. is crucial. L.A.B. has made this easy by way of their online submission. A simple step-by-step process is sent to L.A.B. and they use this video to dial in your specifications. L.A.B. is best known for their big and unique-looking DF 2.1, a putter that has many nicknames and certainly does not appeal to all golfers. This is where the DF3 comes in. Please welcome and congratulate our testers! @jbern @MattWillGolf @CFreddie @Cfhandyman @GolfSpy MPR @Steve F

    The Good Morning Thread

This is my first time posting in the Good Morning Thread! Hi everyone I have Mondays off, so my mornings are always an early round somewhere in the Los Angeles area. This was a view of the 18th green of the Wilson course at Griffith Park Golf Club. 7:00am and a brisk 46*. Happy Monday, and I hope you all have a great week ahead! ✌

  4. Good morning Spies - hope everyone is having a great start to the week. Absolutely floored to be selected for the DF3 test - if you have seen my posts elsewhere, you’ll know I’m a fan of L.A.B. And I can’t wait to get this test started with this incredible group of testers! Sending good vibes your way @sirchunksalot! Have a great Tuesday!

  5. Good morning everyone! It's a beautiful Tuesday morning and I'm sitting in the parking lot of work hoping I can pass the check to get to return to work. My BP was good this morning and I hope it stays that way. I hope y'all have a great day!

  6. Good morning Spies, pits a beautiful sunny morning in CNY. For some reason the sun seems extra bright and the coffee is extra tasty for me this morning. I am not even put off by the fact that I can’t golf this morning because I have to see the dentist for any achy tooth. I am incredibly grateful for the L.A.B. Golf DF3 testing opportunity. I feel lucky to getting teamed up with a great group of testers. Looking forward to building my putter and getting out on the green. My wife got into a wound care specialist. I am grateful that she is part of an amazing swim community. One of her swim friends is a retired surgeon who got her into the wound care specialist. While she is disappointed to not being to get back in the water for a few months she knows she is getting better care. She will now focus on her biking. She picked up her Tri-bike from its tuneup so she is looking forward to riding until getting back in the pool. @sirchunksalot good luck. Hope you get your BP sorted out soon. Wishing all a wonderful day!

  8. Morning spies! Jeesh, a guy steps away for 10 hours and has 122 new posts notifications to catch up on! Dropping off the kitty fosters for transport towards their new forever homes this morning, then driving an hour each way to get a friend's dog back from his ex, then it's golf time! 18 or 27, depending on time restrictions. Catch up with everyone tonight! Have a great day!

  9. Good morning MGSpies from the downtown parking spot by the office building with Rameses B's Footprints (one of the best 1:42 songs IMHO) on Pandora and coffee in the mug enjoying the first light of day, thinking about Jason's @sirchunksalot low pressure and lower stress to remain calm with his day. Played Caz park again yesterday and this time they had been working at changing the parkland back to golf course cutting fairways on the far side of the creek but still just a good short rough length, good exercise with golf and a starting point for 2024 and getting ready for Kingsmill. Hope to do it again today. Hope golf is a part of your day to 44

  10. Good morning Spies! Got to the range too late yesterday to hit any balls (or at least they wouldn't sell me any) so I went to the end of the firing line and set up a Rypstick workout instead. Not sure how much I trust the Rypradar yet, but at the end it recorded four swings at 89 mph, which if accurate is my best by 5 mph. And I haven't even started the Fit For Golf test yet; we have a call with Mike Carroll tomorrow to get going on that. Meanwhile @Tom the Golf Nut and I firmed up our plans for a Friday afternoon round at his home course; it will be a hot one, pushing 90. Fortunately I have the sunscreen in my suitcase. More drama with my son; he has very bad feet, standing is difficult, and he works as a hotel desk clerk, which does require standing up a lot. He can manage if he has a place to sit down between guests. The manager of his new job refused to let him sit down at the desk and took him off the schedule, so he wasn't getting paid (if that sounds like a violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act, you are getting the idea). Said manager has been told to find other places to mismanage and the new manager put my son on the schedule last night with a chair. But he wasn't getting paid for about three weeks, so he needs some $$$ help from dear old Dad. Congrats to all the new testers! I'm a bit jealous, but I'll get my current test done and then throw my hat back in the ring. Y'all is definitely plural

  12. Good morning All! Tried out some 7 woods over the weekend and for some reason was absolutely crushing them. Now I'm trying to justify a reason to add one to the bag. @Kenny B @sirchunksalot I have the white coat syndrome too. I should ask if I can bring in 140 lbs of black labs with me to my next appointment to see how well they keep reading in check. As the weather improves here I'm working on more chipping practice. Fingers crossed that it translates to improvements on the course. Good weather here has me in an upbeat mood.

Good morning everyone. Thunderstorms overnight and no more golf on the calendar for a little more than a week as work and kids sports fills it up for a spell. Will still find a way to hit the range for some practice time which my short game and putting will greatly appreciate. Using Shot Scope has been great for the data but it really throwing off my flow when putting and my green reading has taken a little bit of a hit. Starting to get the hang of it a little better but it still is a little more work than I like. Officially begin counting down the days to summer. Only 29 students days to go. With an A/B alternating day schedule, that means 14 or 15 days with each group of kids. We got this! Hope everyone has a great day ahead.

  14. Good Tuesday morning spies! Storms are brewing and we should have them on and off all day long. Currently watching the lightning storm to the north from my kitchen table and listening to the thunder rolling. Good day to be inside working. Positive vibes your way @sirchunksalot to have a nice chill time from this day forward. Hope that everything stays under control for you. Have a great day spies.

  16. Good morning fellow MGS'ers and happy Tuesday! Still trying to work my way through my case of the shanks. Spent a good amount of time on the driving range yesterday and felt like I maybe made a little bit of progress, but the miss is still consistently well in the heel. I guess the one thing that I can say is that when I do get it ironed out, hopefully I'll be able to strike the middle with the same consistency . Super excited about both testing announcements today as we have two really good groups for LAB and Ghost! @CFreddie, good luck picking your favorite combo we all know you've only got a good 15+ on your computer right now

  17. Good morning and happy 2nd Monday, Spies!! It's an overcast and gloomy Tuesday morning here, with lots of rain on the way this week. We really don't need any more. When I played on Sunday, it was cart path only and the fairways were soggy in many spots. So it can stop any time now. Just got an old pair of Oakley prescription glasses back from FUSE lenses. I had them put in a custom pair of their Blue Light lenses (non-prescription) to see if that will help me with eye strain and headaches from too much time in front of the computer monitors during work hours. They didn't have lenses pre-cut for these Oakley's (Base Plane), so I utilized their custom cut service to send them the glasses and have the lenses cut and installed for me. Didn't take long and they look great. So we'll see how they work today. It's strange to have a pair of glasses back on my face when I'm not outside. Since my cataract surgeries 2 years ago (this month), I haven't needed anything other than sunglasses. So we'll see how my face/head react to having them on during the day. Everyone have a fantastic day!!

  18. Good Morning y'alls!! (..see we Yankees don't know whether "y'all" is already plural or needs the "s" ) Ahh had two better than average nights of sleep back to back - kinda Spring like temps here and eat able to keep bedroom windows open overnight. So feeling relaxed before my walk to acupuncture .. and then I'll be relaxed for the walk back, too... .. so with all that relaxation maybe I'll have to go hit some golf balls (but really before the weather turns to rain again). Hope y'all have a Terrific Tuesday!! Oh @Preeway - for putting have you tried Manual mode on the ShotScope? I find it worked better for me .. worked it into my setup to the ball; eg just before making the stroke I'd pause, tap the watch to mark the location, make the stroke. .. And then remember to do the Pin Collect!! (so how many times have you had to run back to the last green )

  19. Man, let me tell you have bad the spring allergies have just kicked me square in the golf balls. I’ve been down and out for almost a week and it’s be less than fun. Going to try and hit the range today, but the pollen count is supposed to be really high again even with a little rain we had yesterday. This makes me wish I had an indoor simulator haha. happy Tuesday spies!

  20. Good morning to all on a lovely Tuesday morning. Up early with the dogs and thoroughly enjoying my morning espresso(s). I’m absolutely thrilled, overjoyed, honoured and very grateful to MGS for having been selected as one of the testers for the L.A.B. DF3 Putter and what a great group of testers I have to work with. We are all looking forward to this, not to mention the comments and suggestions from people on what they would like to see. Have a great day. @sirchunksalot hoping you get the BP sorted out and you get the all clear.

  22. Just a quick side note update - Since the Arias test (some before we technically considered as 2024 reviews as they were completed in 2024) we have selected roughly 100 members for member testing so far (that just kinda blew me away when I realized that last night) Going a little deeper though we have 51 new members selected for member testing this season. Over half! Which is really cool. Note that this does not include the 30 for Shot Scope and Callaway or Titleist Whitebox opportunities. So for all of you who are new to the forum, get into the forum and your chances at being selected are huge!

  24. Good Tuesday morning my spies. Tuesday is here and upon us an is just grand. Mainly because it isn’t Monday. The following is pretty much a rehash of what I posted in last night’s Good Evening. The trip for work turned out to be a todo about nothing much. None of “ Those People’s “ property was damaged or taken. However, while on the border area the tiara wearing tyrant texted me, informing me she had gone all “ Girly Government “ on me and engaged in condemning and confiscating some of my retired golf gear. Seems that the Royalty is on a repurposing/ recycling kick. So far it is just the peasant husband’s stuff that is being repurposed and recycled. Crawled home and grabbed a quick shower and nap. Currently preparing to brace myself and see what other carnage the wife person has engaged in towards my innocent retired golf gear. @sirchunksalot hope you have a non eventful day with your BP. For those of you that might be feeling a tad lighter in the wallet in the aftermath of tax day; I will leave you with this sentiment….

  25. Morning Spies! Up later than I'd like to be, but ended up working past midnight. Weather is gorgeous out, and I wish my days off started today rather than tomorrow... Either way I just got my tee times for tomorrow and Thursday all set, now im going to make some eggs, drink some coffee, and spend a few hours working around the house. We are having the central air system in the house replaced (its from the mid 80's) and they came and took all the old refrigerant out yesterday. To save a few bucks I volunteered to remove the old air handler out of the attic and get rid of the outside unit as well... Hoping to have that done so they can start installing the new next week. Have a great day everyone!

  26. Morning All, it’s back to work today for me. But it is only a 3 day work week, hoping to get out and golf Friday as long as it’s nice out. Yesterday I went out and played 9. The course I played on is only a 9 hole course anyway, and really there’s no rough, the bunkers are like concrete, and the greens are a mixture of sand and some grass. You see the way it should break, and it never breaks. I wasn’t worried about putting yesterday as I knew the putting surface isn’t the best, I was more concentrating on well struck shots. That I did accomplish. What I also learned was I have become more understanding that course management is best and I don’t need to hit those hero shots. Also the lesson from the program I was in gave me confidence, and also not trying to smash the ball like Bryson in front of people. That helps not feeling like your back is thrown out of whack. Anyhow, hope everyone has a great day.

Good Tuesday morning Spies! Today I have just about enough time to squeeze in a short range session before work needs to happen. I seem to have a dead pull going on with the irons so I gotta figure that out. I think it's ball position related but, need to confirm that. Then the weather here in Michigan gets a little (lot) wet the next couple days. Get to the course while you can right! Haha. May you all have a great day!

Good morning Spies on a Tuesday which shows promise of sunshine and mid 60's temperatures here. Best wishes all goes well Jason, @sirchunksalot and you get everything under control. Practiced a bit last evening on the practice green at a course close to the house and hoping to do it again later this evening too. Hope that your day is the best it can be, and that something enjoyable is in your plans.

  32. In the most recent MyGolfSpy testing for stand bags, the Ghost Golf Anyday bag was named Best Premium Golf Bag. It was a great showing for a newer company that their founder, Anand Nalia, says is simply “a humble towel company.” Who is Ghost Golf? Founded in 2022, Ghost Golf actually did start as a “humble towel company.” Their first innovation was a magnet that made the towel significantly more user-friendly. They then branched into other areas such as belts, clothing, bags and other accessories. With an ever-expanding lineup, Ghost Golf looks to make a significant impact by providing premium quality products that have an elite level of attention to detail. Their prices may be high but so is the quality of their products. Please welcome and congratulate our four testers! @cnosil @Shlax @Samuel09152 @arodrig29

  34. Good morning spies! I am exhausted today. Yesterday, I walked a total of almost 18,000 steps and just under 9 miles. Was able to play some twilight golf as well which was amazing. Something about playing golf on a nice, warm evening feels different. Can't wait for that feeling in the summer. Slow day of work today with nothing planned afterward. Sounds like a great day of rest if you ask me. I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

Supposed to head to Turkey in a couple days. great to see so many active and upcoming tests. amazing work by the team this year.

  39. Good morning! The kids and I got up early and surprised SWMBO with omelets and donuts. We didn’t get out of the house on time, but I think it was worth it for the special breakfast! I am ecstatic to be part of the DF3 testing opportunity with a great group! I’ve had about 20 variations open, but I think I’ve narrowed it down to about 3! Tonight my in-laws are coming to visit and we’re going out to our local Mexican restaurant to participate in taco Tuesday. The restaurant is fairly new and we haven’t been there yet so I’m looking forward to trying it out! Have a good day everyone!

  44. Good morning spies! Up and ready to tackle the day. A little annoyed this morning, one reason is completely my fault and the other, well, not so much. The shaft I ordered to fit in the Qi10 Max is going to take over two weeks before it is even shipped! This is entirely my own annoyance because as a madman with a bank account, I ordered without reading the print on the website that clearly stated this would happen on special orders (I am shortening the shaft through them) so, good job Michael Second, started my sociology class last night and one gentleman in particular is quite annoying throughout the entire online session. Having to chime in with a comment over voice chat and constantly writing "lol" to everything the teacher says in the text chat which gives off a constant "BUNG!" every time, for 4 1/2 hours straight. I can only imagine how he would be in a non-virtual class environment, constantly with his hand up asking the teacher why the sky is blue and such. Well, after that rant I am in need of some coffee and breakfast. I hope everybody has a great Tuesday!

  48. I was wandering through the golf store when I suddenly realized that there were so many things there that needed to be adopted. As a result, I unselfishly adopted a new pair of ECCO G5s. It had been days since my pair of Skechers died, and I thought the best thing I could do to hold their memory dear in my heart was to adopt a new pair. I also collected new golf shirts and pants as they also seemed lonely at the store in the discounted area. I was worried the bad people at the store would destroy them if I didn't adopt them, so I was really feel like I was doing the world a favour.
