    How'd you play?

Tuesday was the day.... it was it. I took a vacation day went to a course out in the country to enjoy the fall colors and was playing a leisurely round by myself. Started bogey then went 6 straight pars.... I was 3 over after 12 (3 bogies/9 pars-I can't make a birdie to save my life but that's another story) Thinking that I have a really good chance to do the break-80 thing. Got to 13 and errrrhhhh...backed up.... shoot... there goes my rhythm.... I can still do this I tell myself.... relax. bogey-par-bogey-par-bogey.... dammit.... 6 over. just need a bogey or better on 18. Par 4 465 from the tips with wind in my face and the ground is saturated. Hit a good drive/not great/and ball plops down in wet and soggy fairway. I know I've got to hammer a 3 wood to get it on the green and have a chance with the wind blowing and it being really wet. So ... I swing too hard with my 3, top the ball and end up with a double for an 80.... 39/41.... FML. it's just not meant to happen; I was playing from the tips and hit so many good shots... almost all of the fairways, on/near greens in reg, great chips, sand saves.... other than adding a couple birdies in there I don't know if I could have done much more. I only had 1 bad swing and it cost me severely. ::sad face:: ::I hate this game::

At the tail end of a 16 hour day today I got an email for a golf invite to Trump Westchester on Friday. My first thought was to say no due to work commitments and then well I sent my admin an email and let her know I was taking Friday off. Haven’t hit a ball in over two weeks but it is one of my favorite tracks so why not? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  8. I agree. Something should be done. @Undershooter30 and I talked about it and we've found new managers for those teams. Everyone please welcome @mpatrickriley and @GeekingGolf to the league. They've agreed to fill the lineups every week and are allowed to make moves and win games just like normal owners.

Most of us enjoy watching the Class of 2011 on the pro tour. I have had the opportunity to watch the future classes of golfers on a much lower level, but never the less, more enjoyable on a personal level. A close friend of mine has a grandchild that is the number 3 player on his high school team as a freshman. A year of so ago, my friend and I were playing golf and he noticed some improvement in my game and asked how he heck did that happen. I told him that I was taking lessons from a local PGA teaching pro. He then asked me to see if the pro would be willing to work with a youngster because he saw the natural talent in his grandson. So I asked the pro and he responded that he loved to work with young golfers one on one. Not only has the pro been working with the youngster but he is super enthused doing so. My friend and I constantly discuss the youngster's progress, My friend also knows that I have an interest in his progress. So he said to me that it would be helpful if someone other than his grandfather and his instructor would support and encourage him. Last week I went with my friend to watch his grandson and his teammates compete in the local high school championship which they won and his grandson had the third lowest score of all the players most of whom were seniors. Yesterday, I went to watch them compete in the eastern shore district championship. While another school beat them by one stroke in the team total, they never the less did qualify for the coming State championship in their division. While I was at those tournaments to support my friend's grandson, I found that I genuinely enjoyed watching all the youngsters play. I saw the personal relationships that they had developed over the season of play beyond their teammates and the sportsmanship that they displayed. I realized that I am watching some "really good kids" both as golfers and future adults. While since my days of playing a team sport times have changed, it seems that the values and lessons learned by participating in athletics and on a team have not diminished. While my friend and I have no illusions about his grandson playing on a Division I college team or every being a pro, I find it extremely rewarding and enjoyable to support youngsters in their athletic and team activities even if they are not your child. Most likely you will be supporting some "really good kids" that will be needed in our future.

    How'd you play?

Played a short 9-hole course I hadn't played in a long time. Only had my practice wedges and an old putter with me as I was originally headed to a short Par 3 but got re-routed due to construction. This is a pretty short course, too .. just looked it up and it's only 1930 yds .. so with a PW as my longest club figured it would be good practice. And it was. Generally kept the ball moving towards the green and, despite a lot of very thin grass and mud, chipped/pitched onto the greens well enough. Think I made more bogies today - which for me is good - than any other round so far, so I guess I'll have to play this way more often!

  11. It really is saying something. The 400 is very good. But it doesn’t have s thing over this for me. Additional note: Our Superintendent saw me on the course today came up to talk. I told him ti take a swing with it. Cold out of his cart in his boots and no warmups. He hit a drive 20 yards past where he normally is on that hole. He just looked at me and said “Holy MF’er, what the hell is this thing?” He couldn’t believe it and followed me to the next hole. Same thing. Two more just as long. We’ll see if he places an order tomorrow. Ha Bridgestone Tour B JGR Driver and HF2 irons Pre Release Testing

Not a whole lot of improvement, but going back to day 1, the trend is a slight gain across the board. About what I would expect. That's why it's a 72 week program!!! oh I feel your pain! 3 times this year I thought I was going to break through the seemingly impenetrable wall of 80 only to hit it square on the head. The killer is when you find yourself looking back at the dozen or so missed opportunities throughout the round. Breaking 80 is one of my 2018 golf goals.. have less than 3 months to catch that unicorn!

I've welcomed a lot of people and I felt like I was doing it just to get more posts and hit higher numbers. I felt like I was not being original or really welcoming. Also I noticed that no matter how many I welcomed and said stick around to not many did so I gave up. I didn't want to just keep saying welcome for numbers and then nothing after that and their test entry. Now the ones I welcomed and stayed around made me want to keep doing so but that was less than 10%. I also noticed that there were a lot of copy and paste welcomes when I tried to type something different as much as I could. So it is a combo of things that made me feel this way not just one. I sort of agree with you and have gone through phases where I welcome the new comers or get a bit irritated when the mobile feed gets filled up with responses to the intros. For me, the responses to my intro had no bearing on whether I stuck around or not. It was the content in other areas the made me want to stay and learn. For giggles, I found my intro thread and re-read the 12 responses - there was nothing earth-shattering that made me stick around. I believe it is important to actually read the intros and respond to something that interests you, but not necessarily the copy/paste replies I have been guilty of doing in the past.

I understand this mindset and dislike it at the exact same time. It makes sense to not want to waste brain power or the time being introduced to someone who you may never see again or who is just trying to “win” something. However, for a new person, showing them the welcoming community and culture that has been established at MGS is important. It’s why I stuck around and am trying to provide value. I was welcomed with open arms and no judgement and want to show that to others as well. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  22. Just wanted to give you guys some info on how the training is going. I did a session Tuesday night and I'm seeing an improvement, especially left handed. There's still a bit of a gap between hands, but the left side is getting closer in some drills to my starting SS of 89mph. I'm a little flustered that I'm having difficulties reaching 100, especially with my lightest club on the first swings. I have to remind myself that I'm doing these after working all day and most of the gas is out of the tank. I'm hoping to get in another session Thursday if the rain holds off and play Saturday. I probably won't have Arccos data, because the course isn't in the system. I've contacted them and they are going to map it. Their customer service is great! I hope any of you that are reading this that are affected by the hurricane are safe and our thoughts and prayers go out to you. Sent from my SM-G955U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  30. I know and hate that hole at Connaught! Can't ever seem to get the tee shot right, and every time I have played there, that hole has always been into the wind. Other than that, I really like everyone's stage 1 reviews and I'm looking forward to the stage 2's. I just bought a set of these i500s and so far I'm very happy. Can't wait to see the changes between the i500s and my old set compare to what others are seeing in their testing!

    Ditching the Hybrid

Now that I put the Stan Thompson’s in my bag I’m having even better results. I’m not sure the loft but the 4-wood is backweighted with lead and the ball gets way up in the air. 215 yards with a nice steep landing that holds the green. Better than any hybrid I’ve ever tried. In my prior life, I was a Hotel General Manager at a relatively small hotel 170 rooms. So I was involved in hiring and orientation for almost all employees. I would typically walk the new employee around and introduce them to all the department heads and managers. One day after doing so, one of m managers came to me and said, "Don't bother introducing me to a new employee until after their first week, I hate learning someone's name only to hear they quit two days later" LOL She was only half joking

  40. This thread hasn't seen the light of day for a while, so it's time to bump it.... Another Update: I tweaked my back about three weeks ago, which sucked and put a serious damper on my golf activities - I have only played 45 holes in that time. At any rate, my understanding is we will not end up with the normal stage 2 and some of us had already graded in our initial posts, based on first impressions and 3 weeks with the clubs. I am currently working on a formal update to put a bow on this "super-secret" test, but here are my current thoughts on these woods. DRIVER: I'm not sold on it just yet. While I have hit a few really nice shots with it (including driving the green on a ~250 yard par 4 at @MattF's yearly family outing), I am almost as long with the 3W and more consistent. As I mentioned earlier, I'm wondering if it is not, at least partially, a shaft issue. The club is designed to be high launch, which I generally don't need, so if I were to get a lower launch shaft, would this work better for me? Perhaps.... 3W: Now that I have quite a few more swings with this club, I am liking it more and more. I have had to adjust my grip a bit weaker compared to my old Callaway, presumably due to the draw bias (?). I'm only 5 - 10 yards shorter than the driver with this club and more accurate, so right now I see no need to pull the driver. 3H & 4H: These have been the star of the show out of all the woods. I am continually amazed at the distance and accuracy I am seeing from these clubs. Again, at @MattF's outing, there is another very short par 4 with a sharp dogleg right that was playing around 200 yards uphill. If you can't accurately hit a hard fade, you lay up about 150 yards off the tee. I told Matt I was going to pull the 4H and slice it around the bend. I hit it a bit thin and low, but it curved perfectly and we were on the fringe in 1. (Aside: this was a scramble and we couldn't two putt with 8 shots at it :() There is nothing in my old bag that would have allowed me to even attempt that shot. If the dogleg were the other direction, I don't even try - drawing the ball only happens by accident. I'm hoping Matt, Rob, and MGoBlue are able to provide some updates, too!

    How'd you play?

Saturday played a course that I know very well with my buddy Mark. Kokopelli. This games funny.. About 2 weeks ago I had a pretty stellar round there (for me) and shot an 80. I felt like everything was working that day. On Saturday I just felt like everything was off and not coming together like I'd like. My buddy was having an off day too. Not to mention the course was in pretty rough shape due to pre re seeding prep so there was just an extra added level of difficulty. At the end we added everything up and I shot an 83 and he shot an 86. I was honestly expecting something in the 90's by the way things seemed to be going. How'd you play?

Only two guys showed up today and they both had something going on afterwards, so golf was only 9 holes today. It was a good thing because we got some spits of rain. I'm still hitting the occasional wayward tee shot. I only hit one (1) green in regulation, and didn't chip particularly well either. However, I parred the first 6 holes and one-putted the first 5 holes. The shortest putt was 6 feet; longest was 25 feet. I just laughed as they went in the cup!! I came down to earth, two-putting holes 6-9 for a +3 score on the front nine.

  47. First off I’d like too thank Rob, MyGolfSpy, Ping, and Matt the customer service dude at Ping! Here’s a little background on me and my game. I’ve been playing golf for about 24 years, I was late to the game. I’m self taught and never had a lesson. I got down to a 5 hcp about 5 years ago and now I’m hovering over 10. I’ve been to the Nike Oven and 2 years ago I went to the TM Kingdom and was fit. A couple times a year I’ll go see James at 2nd Swing to get fit and some new goodies. I’m a true club ho. The clubs have to be real game changers to stay in my bag. My home course in Minnesota is a Links style with long heavy rough. Before I was picked to test the i500’s I was gaming the Srixon 565’s 4-PW. I’ve played just about everything so don’t hesitate to ask if I could compare the two. My driver swing speed is at 92-100 depending on my back. I have a pretty fast tempo and very aggressive swing. My iron play is probably the worst part of my game. My miss is left of my target and and off the toe. My 150 club is 7 or 8 iron once again depending on my old beat up body. Short game has always been my money maker. I picked the i500’s for some more distance I’ve lost over the years and hoping for the same forgiveness , great Forged feeling and shot shaping I’m so use too. Plus they look so damn sexy. This time around I didn’t go get fit, I did the Ping fitting on line, I can’t wait see how it works out. I have three rounds in already and two trips to the chiropractor this week. I’m on my way to Arizona as I’m typing this so sorry if this isn’t making any sense.
