  2. Great to see some of you breaking through that plateau phase! It is important for the readers to hear that the plateau comes for most everyone but you will come out of it. @Jon Brittan We are looking for the SuperSpeed protocols to be done while the person is the most fresh physically and neurologically. If someone is pre fatigued from a gym program or playing a round of golf they typically will be slower training after. That being said it is not a black and white rule. We appreciate you bringing up this point. We want people to train when they feel the best and are getting the most out of the sessions. If later in the day is working better definitely stick with that but don't be afraid to experiment. @mpatrickriley We all have an athletic ceiling where our potential for speed will be at a maximum. We don't really know for sure exactly but we would guess most people are operating around 50-60% of their potential. This athletic ceiling is developed by what types of explosive activities you did as a kid and your unique genetic makeup. If you didn't do fast or powerful movements as a child it doesn't mean you won't be able to gain more speed, it just means you most likely will never be a Cameron Champ. Through the SuperSpeed training we can begin to tap into more of that potential by activating what are called Motor Units. At some point you will max out and won't be able to gain more speed. It takes some work to get to that max out phase though. The first 2 SuperSpeed training protocols will yield the biggest gains. From there the gains will be slower and smaller but still happen. The plateau phase can also be longer.

    My wife and I had a 10am tee time today. It was 28º and cloudy, but the sun was supposed to come out by noon. They lied. We took our cart cover that we bought 2 years ago that fits the Yamaha rentals, but we have no heater. The guy in the pro shop said that two groups were about 30 minutes ahead of us and no one has a tee time behind us. It started snowing. Only a few flakes so we headed to the first tee. I was cold. We decided to play the first two holes, then decide if we would continue since the 2nd green was by the parking lot. It stopped snowing, so we continued on. I took this picture from in front of the #3 green looking across the pond back down the fairway. The pond was frozen... so were the greens. I made a mistake and landed my ball on the front of the 40 yard deep #5 green; went off the back. We finished the front nine and called it quits. I hit the ball pretty well, but there was no way to score today. Riding in a cart, even with a cover, is colder than I remember in years past. We have a 10am tee time for tomorrow, but I think I'll walk; much easier to stay warm.

    How'd you play?

    Just got back from my first round in 6 weeks. Went 48-42 for 90. Would've been ok, but it was a tight little exec. with par 62. (Actually, it put me right on my handicap.) 5 penalties. They had been closed for 6 months to refurbish their greens and tee boxes. I couldn't get any sense of speed at all on the greens. 43 putts. I did manage a 5 hole run of pars, with one that should have been a birdie. Just lipped the birdie putt out. It was just nice to get a chance to play again after such a long layoff.     The Chrome soft is interesting because I just picked up my re-shafted 9 iron and my fitter was extolling its virtues. I commented that it's a very good ball but that I don't like how soft it feels. The soft balls of today do not feel like Balata did IMO, they feel contrived, kind of like when you get flavored potato chips. That's my take - clearly they have their niche and the answer an objection to the modern ball feeling too firm for some - they just aren't for me.

    Played my first round with my new Mizuno MP18 MMCs and Hogan TK wedges. Hadn’t been able to play for 3 weeks due to work and an unfortunate bout of gastroenteritis. Really solid to start, 1 over after 8, greens were slow after a minor tining but rolled ok. Very happy with the new irons, other than a couple of very poor swings they’re very forgiving and I love the ball flight.     I started 2018 with a 24 handicap and a goal of breaking 100 three times. I am finishing 2018 at a 17 handicap, Shot a 90s score 18 times, 80s score 12 times, and a 70s score once. Excited for what 2019 has in store! Thanks for helping be a part of this ride!

  19. A quick observation today... This morning at the club I tried the TS2 and the Cortex before playing. The TS2 was an 11.5* with Tensei Blue-S and the Cortex was an 10.5* with a Blue-R shaft of some kind. The Cortex was a non-starter due to the shaft. Everything was high and right. Everyone raves about the great sound of the Cortex but I didn't hear that through my ears. Now.... the TS2 was freaking awesome! I only hit about 6 shots that were each pretty much perfect in my book. The sound was great and the ball flight and trajectory seemed just what I prefer. And this was with Srixon yellow range balls. Loved the sound and feel. I had all my shots centered on the face in an area of about the size of a quarter. I took both drivers back to the pro shop and told one of the assistants, "I can play this club just like it is." Now the bad news... He said I had $125 on account and I can apply that to the club and also get the Christmas Sale discount. Hmmm? Fitting? What fitting. It fits! Honestly though, I think I'll get back out there next Saturday and take it on the course with a game ball, Then I'll see. Really see. Could this be the SLDR beater? Maybe.

  20. Never be embarrassed by any club you carry if you can hit it and it helps you score. Now one of my running partners Checkers has been carrying and using one since they came out and like Ole Gray it has helped him tremendously. He did paint the green on his black because he said he could not stand the bright green. But being around here and seeing a variety of golfers of all skill levels and parts of the USA and Canada too for that matter I have seen quite a few in bags.

    You can get a cart heater for about $50. at any big box store, however, at some point you have to get out and hit the ball which at that temp is not a pleasant experience. At that temp, I prefer staying home and practicing in my warm basement.

    The chromesoft have always felt soft to me and I’ve seen 1/2-1club less with them than other tour level balls. TM has two really good ball in the TP line and I’m curious what the next gen is going to be like. I’m a titleist homer when it comes to balls but if I were to deity it would be to TM

    This is the perfect place to say that my college buddies came to church last Saturday evening and brought me a care package that included toilet paper, a bottle opener, a cutter, a history fact book, a bottle of scotch, a regifted card and a box of Tp 5xs. I played with the Taylor Made ball this week and was suitably impressed. The only balls other than the Pro VIx that I’ve played a round with were a two piece as a part of the MGS challenge last Spring. I’ve played a hole or two with the Chrome soft x but honestly that ball is not my cup of tea, feels too soft and spins too little around the green for my taste. The TMag? I could game that one.     Happy thread

    I took some lessons that completely revamped my swing. Changed everything about it. Much more consistent especially with my irons. Now it is on me to be consistent in my play/practice to get better. Can't even explain how much the lessons helped my swing path, tempo, and striking. I still struggle with keeping my head down sometimes. Playing! I have a winter card at a local course. Cost $190 but no green fee from 10/1-2/28. I played four rounds in the first two weeks and got my money's worth. Have played about 8-9 rounds since i bought the card so 5 rounds and all other are completely free. Luckily the PNW ground doesn't freeze too often during winter. (Except this week.)

    It was a day for a golf marathon. Played round 1 at Grand Cypress New Course in our first round of alternate shot format. Let’s just say it’s frustrating when you rip a drive down the middle and give your partner a simple 110 yard wedge in and he chunks it and dunks it in the moat right in front of the green. Ah well, might as well get the triple bogey out of the way on the first hole. But I will say that he redeemed himself on the 2nd hole by stiffing a wedge to within a foot for a tap in birdie. We ended up shooting 92 and are T30 out of 33 teams. At least we’re not dead last. We have tomorrow to make it respectable. So we finished at noon, had some lunch and decided to trek over to Orange County National where we played the Crooked Cat course. And in the interest of full disclosure, the tips are around 7,500 yards and I just laughed. Um, no. So the next tees up are 7,000. Uh, please no. So the next tees up are 6,500. Ok, now we’re talking. So I ripped a drive down the middle on the 480 yard par 5 first hole and had 210 in. So I pulled hybrid and put it pin high to about 20 feet and drained the putt for only my 10th eagle ever. What an exciting way to start the round. Here’s my scorecard. Here’s a few pics from the course. What a fantastic track btw. The weather in Orlando is perfect btw.   39. ever consider a 54/58* combo? I find those pretty flexible ... 58 can open up a bit and hit like a 60 but also allows you to play it from further away than a 60.

    Indiana exposed the defense last week, and Meyer made the adjustment to use it. Unfortunately harbaugh didn’t look at Maryland’s plays from last week and make the same adjustments. Harbaugh will not change the way he runs a team, and it really cost them today. Harbaugh is no good. He cannot win the games that he needs to win. They were totally and utterly unprepared for the game.

  43. Stage Two Intro Welcome back for Stage 2! With the driver out of the box, that meant it was time to go to work. The trouble with being in Indiana is that we are in the beginning stages of winter right now. This was going to limit any amount of testing that I could perform outside. To combat that, the majority of my testing was done on the launch monitors at my local PGA Superstore. This was great because it allowed me to get actual data on every hit to present for my results. Looks The shape of the Z785 took a bit for me to get used to. As you might be able to see from the pictures in my Stage 1, the back of the driver is pulled back to try and get the weight as far back as possible. It doesn’t have your typical rounded shape. After a few hits, I the shape became normal for me. Aside from the elongated shape, the top of the crown is carbon. This is nothing new compared to the other drivers out there. As you look down at address the carbon pattern comes through very clearly. On the bottom of the club, The Srixon is beautifully done. It follows the lines of the club and just looks classy. The bottom of the club was just cleaned up a bit more from the Z765. The overall look of the Z785 is very modern. The one downside I will say about this club is the top. The top does have a higher gloss, so the reflection is quite strong for me. In the sun there was a bit of glare that was coming off the top. I was glad that Srixon added in an alignment aid to this driver. In the past I felt like it was missing that touch. The alignment aid is very minimal, but just enough to let you know you’re squaring the ball up in the middle at address. (8 out of 10 points) Sound & Feel The sound for me is much better than the G LST. Of course, anything will be quitter than my Ping. The sound isn’t dead, but it’s just enough of a good sound to say it’s bringing power and speed to the table. Here’s a clip of me swinging at the PGA SS to hear the sound. Please note that this is indoors, so it’s slightly amplified. Srixon First Hit.mp4 The feel is extremely good! Srixon really worked on the face and it comes through on the feel of this driver. Off centered hits didn’t feel punishing or harsh either. You knew you hit if off the toe or heel, but it was nothing where you would cringe when it happened. (9 out of 10 points) Range Performance The main boxes I wanted to check while I was on the range were: · Penetrating Flight · Straight/Online Flight During my range testing, I was able to get real numbers from the PGA SS launch monitors, and they also allowed me to throw a few different shafts in the Z785 to assist with the testing. Then to confirm the launch monitor numbers, I headed over to do some outdoor sessions. Not saying that I don’t trust the launch monitor numbers, but I always like the saying “trust but verify.” Plus, to me, nothing compares to being able to see the flight. To do that, there are only a few ranges around here that have heated stalls that allow you to hit out of when the grass range is closed. Golf Club of Indiana - Srixon.mp4 When evaluating a driver, the most important attribute for me is accuracy. As you may have already seen up to this point, accuracy has been a struggle with this club. I think some of it has to do with the shaft that’s in it. When I tested a heavier shaft, it did bring the accuracy up a bit. It still wasn’t as accurate as my Ping. While this club may not be the most accurate for me, it did win the longest drive. When I put the Tensei Orange shaft in it, it cranked out a few drives over 300 yards. The longest drive was 19 yards farther than my longest drive with my Ping in its playing setup. I will note however, on average, the Z785 only beat out the G LST with the Tensei Orange shaft. The setup that came from Global Golf did NOT beat out the G LST on distance. Part of those long drives were attributed to increased ball speeds. I also noticed the distance and ball speeds stayed up even on mishits. The other part of those long drives was the trajectory. The Z785 was launching higher than I would typically like to see. Being that a lot of the courses I play have a decent amount of open areas affected by wind, I normally like to keep my flight down. I did have this driver at the lowest possible setting, 8.5*, to try and bring that flight down a little. The Z785 has multiple settings in terms of adjustability. +-1* and the ability to make it more upright. I will say that if you forget/lose your wrench that you cannot use another brands wrench. Srixon has gone with square design. With Srixon not being one of the more popular brands on the market, if you forget your wrench at home, most likely you’ll be playing that setting for the rest of the day. (12 out of 20 points) On-Course Performance Unfortunately, I was not able to get out on the course to test this driver. With snow covering the ground a few days ago, the courses have closed for the season. I would imagine that I would have seen the same results that I was seeing on the launch monitors and the range sessions. To be honest, the performance I have been seeing with this club, I’d be very nervous to take it out on the course. I would expect to only find 1 or 2 fairways with the rest being well off the beaten path, or even OB. Since I was not able to get out onto the course, I will exclude the amount from the grand total. (N/A out of 40 points) Play it or Trade it? As you might have guessed, I would trade this driver. This isn’t to say the I think the Z785 is a bad driver. I did see an increase in distance, but in its current setup, it just isn’t accurate for me. While it is producing more distance, I wouldn’t be able to keep it in the short grass. I think the restrictions from Global Golf really hurt this driver from preforming its best. As I mentioned in my stage 1, this wouldn’t have been the shaft I would have chose if I were to order this driver from Srixon. I did like the feel of the Tensei Orange shaft in this driver, however the accuracy still wasn’t up to that of the G LST. More interestingly, when I compared the Z785 to the Ping G400 LST, the averages of the G400 LST beat out the averages of the Z785, even with the Tensei Orange shaft. (14 out of 20 points) Conclusion All in all, I would like to thank MGS again for this amazing opportunity! While the Srixon Z785 did beat my Ping G LST in distance, it wasn’t able to get anywhere near the accuracy. For me, short grass trumps distance every day of the week. Final Score: (43 out of 60 points)
