    Riding vs. Walking

... I have probably mentioned this before but when booking rounds with Golfnow and Teeoff.com I often book a round with a cart but still walk because most times the discount rate with a cart is lower than the walking rate at the course. Additionally when I am forced to ride on a mountain or resort course where green to tee's are very long, I will often ask my pard if they do not mind if I walk on the course. They are usually happy to take the cart, go hit their shot then meet me at my ball where I am usually waiting. When I play with my wife or my son and we are forced to take a cart, we just alternate every hole with one of us walking and the other riding.

@Peaksy68 I'm quoting you again so this has some context. While no one in my family is known for our scholastic endeavours, she got a 399 out of 500 and got at least 75% in every subject. I believe her ATAR was 74.6. She got into the University of Notre Dame in Sydney. Before the HSC she was offered a Bachelors in Arts but now that the results have come in she has been offered what she wanted to do which is a Bachelor of Secondary Education with Arts minor. From what she said I believe she was also offered some sort of a scholarship as well. So, I'm one very PROUD Dad at the moment.

Well this is a combination of "Got a Problem" and "Happy" threads, so I guess it fits here. In early November my youngest got married and at some point my wife lost her expensive diamond wedding band. After several futile searches: hotel, beauty shop, car, all throughout our house (several times) and even checked the lost and found ads, she came to the conclusion after a month that it's gone. Fortunately we had it listed in our insurance policy. The happy part? When she contacted the adjuster this past week, it was a no hassle, short conversation that concluded with "we're wiring you the money for the full appraisal price" In today's age of insurance delays or interrogations, I was thrilled with their response. Now as long as they don't raise rates they've got a customer for life.

  6. Two blondes were going to Disneyland . They were driving on the Interstate when they saw the sign that said Disneyland LEFT. They started crying and turned around and went home. Two blondes living in Oklahoma were sitting on a bench talking, and one blonde says to the other, 'Which do you think is farther away... Florida or the moon?' The other blonde turns and says 'Helloooooooooo, can you see Florida ?????' A blonde pushes her BMW into a gas station. She tells the mechanic it died. After he works on it for a few minutes, it is idling smoothly. She says, 'What's the story?'He replies, 'Just crap in the carburetor'She asks, 'How often do I have to do that?' A police officer stops a blonde for speeding and asks her very nicely if he could see her license. She replied in a huff, 'I wish you guys would get your act together. Just yesterday you take away my license and then today you expect me to show it to you!' There's this blonde out for a walk. She comes to a river and sees another blonde on the opposite bank 'Yoo-hoo!' she shouts, 'How can I get to the other side?' The second blonde looks up the river then down the river and shouts back, 'You ARE on the other side.' A highway patrolman pulled alongside a speeding car on the freeway. Glancing at the car, he was astounded to see that the blonde behind the wheel was knitting! Realizing that she was oblivious to his flashing lights and siren, the trooper cranked down his window, turned on his bullhorn and yelled, 'PULL OVER!''NO!' the blonde yelled back, 'IT'S A SCARF!' A Russian, an American, and a Blonde were talking one day.The Russian said, 'We were the first in space!'The American said, 'We were the first on the moon!'The Blonde said, 'So what? We're going to be the first on the sun!' The Russian and the American looked at each other and shook their heads.'You can't land on the sun, you idiot! You'll burn up!' said the Russian. To which the Blonde replied, 'We're not stupid, you know. We're going at night!' A blonde was playing Trivial Pursuit one night... It was her turn. She rolled the dice and she landed on Science & Nature. Her question was, 'If you are in a vacuum and someone calls your name, can you hear it?' She thought for a time and then asked, 'Is it on or off?' A girl was visiting her blonde friend, who had acquired two new dogs, and asked her what their names were. The blonde responded by saying that one was named Rolex and one was named Timex. Her friend said, 'Whoever heard of someone naming dogs like that?' 'HELLLOOOOOOO......,' answered the blonde. 'They're watch dogs'!

    How'd you play?

The scores were inconsequential, both rounds were played on the Saddlebrook Resort Palmer course (Wesley Chapel, FL) with most of the morning round played in a light rain. What was important was that we had fun. We enjoyed the battle in the elements. We were the only golfers on the course for about 3 hours. Got Problems?

I think this is something that every family seems to discuss. My father (due to non family related circumstances) died at 79 while his mother passed away a few months ago at 106. Other family members on my fathers side lived well into their 90s and 100s. My mothers family all passed in their 50s and 60s and she is now 83. Genetics play a part, but we can't dwell on genetics since we are all individual people. It is normal to worry and I am sure she is worrying herself; all I can say is try to enjoy life to its fullest, we never know when it is our time.

  26. Just wanted to share an update. As some of you might not know, it was November 2017 that I started exercising (again). At that time, I had pain in my right shoulder and nothing was found after an MRI or ultrasound. I had no strength and I could not do a pushup. I could go halfway down but could not go back up. The pain was to severe. Well, I stayed committed and continued to exercise and some of you put up with my threads about routines and now, one year later I want to share an update. I am still at it. And... About a month ago I decided that I was going to do push ups. They are one of the best exercises for the arms, upper body and mid section. Well, I am glad to say that I can now do 3 sets of 10. I am not going all the way down to the floor, but can go about 2/3 of the way down. and most importantly, no pain and I am getting my strength back. It has me confused as to what happened with my shoulder. The doctor and specialist could not understand why when I raised my arm I felt a sharp pan. Slowly it started getting better and I am glad that it didn't affect my swing and I felt no discomfort during it. Also I found this great app called Zen Challenge series and this one in particular trains you towards doing 100 push ups.

Heading down to FL to visit family next week. Was able to get my Bro-In-Law out to to play Champions Gate National with me. First time I have played there. Im pretty excited. After growing up there (17.5 years) I have driven by many times prior to when I started playing. Now I finally get the chance to experience the course. I have heard good things about it and surprisingly only $66 for the round (Cart included).

But if you read my previous post it does attest to how great of site it is because Adam himself did shoot me a PM explaining things. So really I apologize for dragging it up but it does again attest to the fact of how great this site is and how great the people are.

I’m on my feet also all day and walk. Not being in work boots and comfortable golf shoes is great. Also I think of it as exercise

  37. Serious question: Those of you that walk only.... what do you do for a living? I'm on my feet for 10 -12 hours a day, and 50% of the year 5 hours on Saturday... on concrete. I'll take the cart, please.

The odds are about 1650 to 1 for that kind of differential. If it happens once it is probably legit, you would have to see trends to know if it is sandbagging, had a hot round, or if the person is working on their game. Many years ago when I was a mid 90s golfer, I had an on day and shot 81. I didn’t approach that number again until I started to take the game more seriously and take lessons. Found a good instructor and after a couple of lessons I shot 76. I quickly lowered my handicap after more lessons.

    How'd you play?

We had a really fun day today. I shot an 80. One of the guy's in the group, who has been struggling of late, shot the best round of his life; an 86. Another, with a 22 handicap, shot a 78 with a hole-in-one on the No. 13 par 3. It was a blast to witness - haven't seen one in at least 30 years! He just kept hitting them straight and his chipping and putting was fantastic. The other in the group shot a 90 which was one of his better rounds as well. It's really fun when everyone in the group is clicking and playing well... and exceptionally well in one case.

Shot a solid 77 today - not bad for a guy who can only play every other week. I’m very happy. You know you’re striking it well when you have putter in hand after a miss hit. That happened several times. I also navigated around the broken 9 iron beautifully. Laid up much closer to the green on 3/4 par 5’s to eliminate any chance of 9 iron and then hit a couple of hooded wedges and another gripped down 8 iron to cover the gap. My wife and I weren't going to play today because we had a 10am appointment. The morning was nice and sunny with a temp of 46º and no wind. Dang!! Appointment was canceled; got a tee time at 11:14am. Great! On the drive to the course, the fog rolled in; sun was gone; and temp dropped to 37º. Oh yeah... a slight breeze! Cold!! Birdied #1; bogeyed #2; chip-in birdie on #3; birdied #4; bogeyed #5... finally got a par on #6. Bogeyed #7 and 8; parred #9. Three birdies and four bogeys for +1 on the front. I was +6 on the back nine; no birdies and two doubles. Still... a 79 in the cold is not bad. Colder tomorrow, but hopefully sunny if the fog lifts.

  49. If Im playing 9 holes I'll walk but not if Im playing 18. I work 50-60 hours a week in a factory, so Im on my feet 9-10 hours a day. Between that and my normal workout routines (running and weight training), I figure that I get enough exercise.
