  3. ... I would not wish the Trestman era on any football fans, having a defense that has traditionally been the cornerstone of great Bears teams that gave up the worst numbers in franchise history. Trading for a franchise QB in Jay Cutler and never giving him the Line or defense to succeed as well as changing the offensive scheme every single year but one was a recipe for failure. But those really rough years, getting beat 9 out of 10 time by the Lions and our most hated rivals the Packers owning the Bears, made this year so very sweet. The excitement could not be higher because we are coming off 8 years of all time lows. It is a great time to be a Bears fan, unlike 1986, a year after a dominating Super Bowl win when many fans were disappointed in a 14-2 season and a loss to Washington in the playoffs. Losing is and always has been necessary to truly appreciate winning.

    Got Problems?

UPDATE: my SIL passed away this morning at 3:30am. They did a test yesterday and she had no brain activity, so they took her off the ventilator around 5pm. My wife and her brother were there with her all weekend. My wife is OK with it; she accepted that it was the best for her. Her brother is not doing as well. It will take time. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It's great to have friends like you to help get through these trying times. You're the best!!

I agree completely. Saw it out of the corner of my eye and was able to get on the brakes so just really nicked it. Girls weren't with me, nor was my wife, and considering everything, I'll take it. Cars can be replaced.

    Happy thread

This one isn't about making me happy it's about making my dad happy. My mom is leaving in a few days to head to Columbus to spend Christmas with my sister for a week. My mom and I knew my dad needed a new cell phone so we bought one for him as his gift. I gave it to him tonight since I'm home from work and my mom is around. I'm not one for Christmas gifts especially since I normally end up working so it was nice to see him smile about getting something he really wanted.

    Riding vs. Walking

... Great deal. I have a remote cart and it is almost like having a caddy. I have had a remote cart since 95 after my first back surgery but unfortunately early in their development QC was pretty bad, and all of them fell apart sooner rather than later with 3 of the companies going out of business. I bought a non remote Mottocaddy S1 several years ago and after a season of use I was very pleased with their quality so I bought a remote S7 and gave the S1 to the Mrs. Last year she bought me a Navigator Gyro for Christmas and while it is expensive, it holds its line no mater the terrain. This was alway a pet peeve of mine that remote carts usually needed constant adjustments as they tended to wander to either side but the Gyro is very straight. And when you play 150-200 rounds a year, it pays for itself in less than one season.

  12. Don't get discouraged!! You are not alone. It looks like we are at similar speeds. My numbers haven't changed much in the last few sessions, and have gone down a little for the light club. I have to remember that in the middle of week 9, I changed from Yellow to Green as my lightest club. After that change I had some great numbers with the Green club, but the last few sessions my speed has dropped back to what it was before the change. Of course, it's colder now and the grass is wet!! Interesting that the first session of Week 12 today... my fastest swing was with the Blue club at 104 which is a record for that club. I've only had 4 swings over 100 with the Blue club in the last month.

  19. It is a great privilege to be chosen to be moderator here at MyGolfSpy. I've been an active member here for just over a year now, and am convinced that this is the world's best golf forum. Most of the time, the moderators here are regulated to Maytag repair duty, at least as it relates to moderating conversations, simply because we have such a great community. But that frees us up to plan ideas to continue to improve and expand the forum. So I'm glad to be at your service! My current Twitter account is @mpatrickriley. I've also reserved @GolfSpyMPR, which I'll use exclusively for golf-related stuff (if you're not interested in theology and my kids).

    Riding vs. Walking

I'm the exact opposite! My typical work week consists of sitting at a computer 95% of the time. I began walking many years ago as a result. I'm not a big "work-out" guy. My body is pretty banged up from growing up helping my grandfather run a farm and spending 8 years in the military. That level of impact on the body takes a toll as you age. Walking allows me to get regular exercise doing something I enjoy while being relatively low-impact.

  31. Thanks for your insight @cnosil - very informative. I think after firing up this discussion, I'd like to see if MGS could do a CG analysis of some putters from a variety of OEMs. I'd be curious to know what the results are across a wider sample (Flanigan seems to just single out SC in his posts), and I'd love to be able to hear from a selection of golfers as well as industry experts about putter CG in relation to overall performance. Seems to me like putters are one of the least analyzed clubs, but yet is still so important to golfers. Most of what we read or hear about is MOI, face technology, and toe hang. I think Ken's post may be the first I've seen discussing CG.

  33. I prefer walking as I find it easier to walk directly to the ball instead of for example, following the cart only rule or when you're near the green. And I find that it is more stimulating in the golf sense than riding. Does that make sense? It's like you're more connected to the game than hit, jump on the cart, ride, get out, hit, get in, ride... and so on. I find that walking gives me a chance to analyze the next shot and surroundings as I'm walking up to the ball. Plus, I love music and I love listening to it as I'm walking between shots.

  39. I much prefer to walk a course with my bag cart. I have better focus on the game/forthcoming shot and score better than when riding in a cart. This is particularly the case when riding with someone I've not played/shared a cart with before. It's often worse when someone else is driving and our games take us to opposing sides of the fairway, etc. Zigzagging all over the place and grabbing extra clubs when one takes the cart around the approach area just dosen't do it for me. What say you?

  40. As a Lions fan I usually pack it in pretty early, and this year was no different, however, I think in the overall scheme of things, their year wasn’t really as bad as it looked at the beginning of the year. They showed improvement in all phases of the game as the year progressed, and even though they didn’t win some of the close games, they did bring tough game to the opposition. They were really hamstrung by many injuries to key areas specifically running back, and receiver. Right after they traded Tate, Marvin Jones was injured. I am kind of looking forward to next season with a bit of optimism that they will be more improved. Not saying they will win 15 games, but 10-6 is not a crazy thought either. We still have 2 games left, with an opportunity to hurt the Vikings chance at the playoffs. Go Lions.

  45. Hey All - This is my first post on MyGolfSpy, just wanted to say I'm jumping on board the SuperSpeed train thanks to what you guys are doing. I'm 56, just start playing golf spring of 2016, so as you can imagine, pretty rough around the edges. Get out generally every Saturday from mid April to late October (live in Mass, so kinda cold the rest of the year) with a regular foursome. Got an email early last week from Practical Golf, they are offering a discount on the SuperSpeed equipment, and someone has posted a link to this forum thread, which I read through last week and have been following ever since. I actually bought the system late last spring (based on a Practical Golf recommendation and a couple of Amazon gift cards I had lying around), but didn't get very far due to a combination of elbow tendinitis and laziness. After seeing all the progress here, I just finished week one and am excited to continue through the winter. I actually started a weigh training program mid October, partly to help improve my golf swing speed, but also general strength - I'm not a big guy, about 5' 8" 165 lbs, and sometimes it felt like I was swinging through molasses the last few rounds this fall. Doing all barbell exercises for now, progressively adding weight, and it's definitely helped with getting start on the SS protocol, I haven't felt any soreness at all. My initial driver speed was 84 mph, if I'm swinging 90 or better when I play my first round in April, I'll be really happy...90 mph - 92 mph seems like a reasonable expectation based on what I've read here and on the SS website. Managed a 104 and 107 on the last two normal swings at the end of the protocol this morning, so heading in the right direction. Looking forward to continuing to follow everyone's progress, and I'll let you know how I'm doing at the end of level 1. Just ordered the pad so I'll be ready to go with the kneeling swings when I get there. - Mike

  46. CoG and CoM are often used interchangeably. They are slightly different but for this discussion let’s consider them the same. It has to do with gravity and will typically move the CoG below the CoM. CoG is the point the putter will rotate around. If you strike the ball directly in front of the CoG the putter won’t rotate. If you strike on the toe side it will try to rotate open and in the heel it will rotate closed. You can try this by using a ball or tee and tapping the face of a putter that you hold loosely. Most manufacturers out the sightline dead center (heel to toe )on a putter which isn’t always the CoG; as shown in your picture. Hosels have the tendency to move the CoG toward the heel. The overall design of the putter can move the CoG to various points. If you are not striking the face in the correct place it could alter the start line of your ball. TP Mills putters advertise and generally show that they put their alignment aids on the CoG and not just the middle. Assembled the CoG May move more toward the heels. This isn’t limited to Cameron’s, people would just generally complain is the sightline wasn’t in the middle. Hope that helps clarify.
