So a forum member took me up on the offer and made it to the 5 PM service all the way from Rhode Island - Okay so maybe he was here for some R and R with his family on the beach but it truly was great to see Barbajo and his beautiful bride and daughter this evening - the boys ran out before I could meet them which somehow seems appropriate - exactly what my boys would do.

It was a wonderful service Rev and we were thrilled to be there. I wish you could have seen the look on your face when you figured out it was me during the reception line! Great to see you and thank you for the wonderful Christmas memory!! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

I am guessing that I don't get anything golf related for Christmas. I did however get my Brother in Law the Rotex wedge he has been talking about for 4 years now. He is too cheap to buy it himself and I am tired of hearing about him wanting it, so I figured maybe I will get some peace on the course now that he will have it!

I had an unexpected call in November about having a credit at TGW. I have no clue how I accumulated a credit there however I was not going to argue the point. Getting a little older now and it's probably something I returned way back and forgot about it. Anyways being a hybrid player over fairway woods, I decided to try the Cobra one length 19 degree hybrid. It had some interesting reviews so I thought what da heck, let's go for it since I have the credit. When I received the thing it looked like some kids club since it's a 7 iron length! I thought to myself, there is no way I can game this little turd. I chunked it in the bag and took off to the course. The first thing I did was grab a bucket of balls and headed to the range for a little warm up. After a few iron shots I pulled out the little rascal for a few whacks. Wowser the little fart was freaking pounding the ball out there straighter than a roll of toilet paper! I kept looking around me to see if anyone was watching me hit this kids length hybrid. After a while I didn't give a rats arse because I was pumping out my chest like a male rooster in a pen full of chicks. The darn thing is stupid easy to hit and the short length didn't cause any problems for me. I'm 6'2" tall so you would have thunk it would have caused a case of tops. Not a problem and now I take pride in having a secret weapon in my bag! I suppose the credit from TGW was a nice surprise from Santa as it sure make this ole man smile like a boy eating his first sweet potato pie.

I don't know yet but there is an oddly long, skinny, suspicious box under the tree that might (or might not) contain a golf club. We shall see.

So, a few too many whiskeys and my fitter being available at stupid-o’clock (we were texting around 1 am) and now I’m a proud owner of a 1 iron... Oh well, maybe I’ll learn At least it looks great when people look at my bag Merry Christmas everyone!

... If you have never gone through a fitting it is always a very good idea, but I think you might be underestimating the knowledge of forum members. Not all of course, but many know their swings and their equipment needs. I think they are more inclined to buy Mizuno 919 Forged with DGS 105 shafts and stock Mizuno grips that are on the rack, but will order them with Nippon NS Pro Modus 105's and MCC grips. I just don't see most forum members grabbing $1300 worth of irons off the rack and playing them without any custom adjustments. ... Many of us have fit ourselves thru the years and know our specs pretty well. Mizuno asked me to do a review of their MP59's but wanted me to go through a fitting with their rep to make sure my review would be based on proper secs, which makes sense. I had written a review of the MP63's and played them with KBS Tour S flex at 1/2" long and I soft stepped them once, mostly to have different shafts in my 9 iron and pw. After going through the fitting with the Mizuno rep utilizing the Mizuno Optimizer my recommendation was KBS Tour S flex, 1/2" long and soft stepped one. I have to admit I was very impressed with the soft step once recommendation. ... So again, I agree getting fit is always a good idea, but more MGS members probably know what works for their game much better than the average golfer on the street pulling some clubs off the rack and heading to the course. MGS has some pretty savy members.

Posted over in my other thread that I built a set of sticks for Kirke for Christmas. I saved it for his last present, because he could see it was a golf club shaped box and the anticipation was killing him. As soon as he opened it, he grabbed all three to head to the basement to swing. His actual words: "See ya!" So I got out the radar and he did his first protocol. Top speed with each club: 62, 56, 51. He'll turn six on Saturday. He has another golf present coming that is going to blow him away, but I'll post that later.

So I was at Christmas dinner with my Dad and started reading him the comments from here and his reply to all of you is, “let them know if they are ever in Asheville, NC to give me a call. I’d be happy to have them.” My Dad is just that way. He loves to play golf, drink and tell jokes. He’s the ultimate host. So if any of you are ever coming to Asheville just PM me and I’ll get you in touch with him. Their house has plenty of room for guests. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

Nothing. I tell my daughters every year not to spend a dime on me.... same for everyone else. I can buy my own stuff, golf or otherwise. I give to my daughters and grandchildren. I prefer to keep Christmas about what it's supposed to be about. My greatest gifts are being with family, friends and recognizing the reason for the season, so to speak. Not trying to put a damper on this thread.... it's just how I feel about Christmas.

... I have shot a 66 three times in my life and I turn 66 in March, so my goal is to shoot my age in 2019. If I manage to pull it off, the goal becomes shoot under my age ... but one step at a time.

Merry Christmas to MGS from the Rev and his peeps! That’s the lovely Laura whom I sometimes reference in reviews standing beside me BTW. She helps me out when I become technically challenged. Nope, but my kids got me some great socks that will work nicely at work and on the course. I bought my little one a box of three dozen Volvik Vivids. Extra obnoxious colors; she loves them. If the weather stays nice this week, I'll take her out so they can see some action. Sent from my SM-J727VPP using MyGolfSpy mobile app

I gave myself a new Ping G400 driver which replaced my G Driver that I gifted to my brother. The PGA Tour Super Store is a great place to test clubs. I went in on a Thursday evening when they were super slow. A very professional young man set me up in a hitting bay. We started with the Callaway Subzero 9 degree stiff shaft and ended up with the Ping G400 SFT 10 degree with stiff Tour Shaft. From a “feel” perspective the Callaway was awesome but from data driven performance perspective the G400 performed much better. Along the way we tried several shafts in each driver before finally settling on the Ping Tour. My final numbers were (I’m 53 y/o): 95 mph swing speed, 139 mph ball speed, launch angle 16 degrees, carry distance 242, total distance 259. FYI...... ball speeds averaged 9 mph higher in the Ping over the Callaway. Everything changed when I took the driver to the course. To be honest it is crazy wet in my neck of the woods so the performance was a little skewed by the conditions of sub 50 degree temperatures coupled with fairways that allowed for zero roll. However the performance was so different from the Trackman statistics that I wondered about the integrity of its settings. As a matter of fact I left the course very frustrated after just 12 holes and numerous lost balls. After a two day hiatus, a 10 degree bump in temperatures and a driver adjustment to 11 degrees I headed back out to try my luck again. This time I hit 12 of 14 fairways with an average carry distance of 244 yards. Although the course dried out a bit roll was still nominal at best. I was and still am hesitant about the stiff shaft. My swing speed is at the higher end of a Regular Flex shaft and several mph short of what’s normally recommended for a Still Flex. Performance was much better this time out and yards gained in comparison to my Ping G with Regular Flex Shaft was considerable in regards to carry distance. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

I know this is repeated on GC on occasion, but I just love watching the game played by some of the classic players back in the day! A few things pop out at me: #1. Gene Sarazen's natty suit! 2. The less than museum perfection course and green conditions. 3. The respectfulness of the gallery - eg. no shouting, no insults and .. no ropes! The instructional tips from the players after was also pretty neat. In the Gary Player - Peter Thomson match, Player explained and demonstrated three different bunker shots, while Thomson have a great tip on setup and aim. Anyone else watching and enjoying?

My usual is an Old Fashioned with a good mid level bourbon (e.g. Basil Hayden, Maker’s 46) and a couple Luxardos. But around Christmas and well beyond I have Smashing Pumpkins*** around for my bride, and I have one with her sometimes. One of those dangerous drinks (easy to drink too many). *** equal parts Goldschlager, Bailey’s and Kahlua.

In Orwell's 1984, it was the government that was watching: so are all the examples you listed. Google is a private company that gets exemptions from the government and apparently no controls on their spying and selling your personal information for their benefit.

If you go to London, you are constantly being watched and videotaped. Go to major airports and facial recognition cameras are being introduced ( have been). Drive around in your car and police already know all the answers prior to stopping you just by your license plate. My point being is we are already in 1984.
