    Whats your best joke?

Years ago, a young Navy pilot was injured while ejecting from his A-4 Skyhawk due to engine failure during a catapult shot from a carrier. Due to the heroics of the rescue helicopter crew and the ship's hospital staff, his only permanent injury was the loss of one ear. Since he wasn't seriously physically impaired, he remained on flight status, and eventually became an Admiral. However, after the accident, he was always sensitive about his appearance. One day the Admiral was interviewing two Navy Master Chiefs and a Marine Sergeant Major for a position on his personal staff. The first Master Chief was a surface Navy type, and it was a great interview. At the end of the interview, the Admiral asked him, "Do you notice anything different about me?" The Master Chief answered, "Why, yes, Admiral. I couldn't help but notice that you’re missing your starboard ear, so I don't know whether this impacts your hearing on that side." The Admiral got very angry at this lack of tact, and threw him out of his office. When the next candidate, an aviation Master Chief, was asked this same question, he answered, "Well, yes, Sir, you seem to be short one ear." The Admiral threw him out as well. The third interview was with the Marine Sergeant Major. He was articulate, extremely sharp, and seemed to know more than the two Navy Master Chiefs put together. The Admiral wanted this guy, but ended the interview with the same question: "Do you notice anything different about me?" To his surprise, the Sergeant Major said, "Yes Sir. You wear contact lenses." The Admiral was impressed, and thought to himself, what an incredibly tactful Marine. "And how would you know that?" the Admiral asked. The Sergeant Major replied, "Well, sir, it's pretty hard to wear glasses with only one freakin' ear.”

    jlukes' Swing Overhaul

Lesson #5 Today's lesson was really focused on my footwork and where the forces/pressure points are in my feet at different parts on the swing. My new hip turn and rotation has been working out well, but I haven't been getting onto my front foot as well as I should. I have been sitting around 65% of my weight on my front foot at impact and we'd like to see the number closer to 80% (and the number to go up even more after impact to show acceleration through the ball). We focused on keeping the weight in the middle of my feet so that I didn't get too far out over my toes at any point. On the downswing I really concentrated on getting that weight into my left food through the middle of the foot. I really had to concentrate on a feeling of the weight going to my front outside heel so that I wouldn't get out over my left toes. Syncing up the torso and hip movements with the footwork is definitely a work in progress, but I left the lesson understanding exactly what I needed to work on and I was able to match up everything with a few swings before the lessons ended. The last thing we worked on today was a little better setup with my shorter clubs. I had a habit of setting up with my hands too even with the head on my wedges, which caused me to add loft and expose the leading edge to the ball (two not very good things). We worked on ball position (slightly further back) with my hands slightly forward and it allowed me to compress the ball much better and get a better launch angle. All in all, another fantastic lesson with progress being made and a good understanding of what I need to work on leading up to the next lesson.

  3. OK. We should be square now. Here's what we've got: 1) The Truth division draft is locked in and your rosters will not change. 2) The Digest draft has been rolled back again. 3) New draft for Digest is Feb 2 @9pm EST 4) Previous pre-rankings should be restored. I didn't do mine so can someone please test this one? I know it's frustrating to have these issues but there is a noble cause here that we're helping them improve their platform. I don't expect any further issues once we get the rosters set. As others can attest, the seasons have gone smoothly thus far. Lastly, I wanted to add in a nice little message from the Fantrax team. "You and your league members have been awesome, not just in your detailed bug reporting, but your patience for using such an early beta function, so thanks for that! We would like to offer you some credits, but golf doesn't have any fees since all premium leagues are free. If you (or others in your league) are interested in setting up league(s) in other sports, let us know and we will waive the fees for those." If you want to take advantage of the offer, just let me know and I'll help you redeem it.

    Whats your best joke?

A college math professor and his wife are both 60 years old. One evening the wife came home and found a note from her husband that said, "My dear, now that you are 60 years old, there are some things you no longer do for me. I am at the Holiday Inn with my 20-year-old student. Don't bother waiting up for me." He returned home later that night to find a note from his wife: "You, my dear, are also 60 years old and there are also things I need that you're not giving me. So I am at the Motel 6 with one of your 20-year-old students. Being a math professor, I'm sure you know that 20 goes into 60 way more than 60 goes into 20. So, don't you wait up for me." So, its official. I'm turning old this year. My daughter graduates high school and heads off to college. We just had our 25th wedding anniversary, and I turn 50 in 10 months. I figured that in order to remind myself that life is for living, I would try to make this year about playing 50 different courses before I turn 50 years old. For those of you who do not know me, I live in Oregon, work in the golf industry, and I haven't played 50 rounds in a year for over 20 years. I will try my best to chronicle my journey to 50 in this space. I love the community here at MGS. I have been a loyal reader and contributor since day one. My post count is down the past 2 years. I attribute this to much less time looking at a computer, and more time working on my game. I will list the course, city, tees I played, score and any notes/reflections about the facility. Course#1 - Tetherow GC, Bend Oregon. Sage Tees - 42: Only got to play the front 9 here. Green complexes were nutty. Very large, very fast and VERY undulating. Fair from the tee, but super difficult putting. Course #2 - Talamore, Southern Pines NC, Blue Tees - 78: Nice layout, very hilly. Course was wet from rain and recent hurricane, so there was no roll on tee shots. Greens were good. Would play again Course #3 - Pinehurst #4, Pinehurst NC, Blue Tees - 82: Conditions were wet, cold and windy. Didn't detract from the round. Awesome layout. Very difficult approach shots. Felt pretty good with 82. Course #4 - Pinehurst #2, Pinehurst NC, Blue Tees - 85: Tough putting for someone not used to the bermuda greens. I missed everything. Just a fantastic course. I would love to play again when I was fresher. Course #5 - The Cradle, Pinehurst NC, standard tees - I played 27 holes on this 9 hole par 3. It was the most fun I have had on a golf course in years! 10/10 would travel to Pinehurst to play the Cradle all day. Course #6 - Arrowood GC, Oceanside CA, Blue Tees - 76: Very hilly layout. Decent conditions. Greens were difficult to read. Some of the tee shots were undefined. Staff was inattentive. Range and practice green were acceptable. Course #7 - Eagle Falls GC, Indio CA, Eagle Tees - 76: Very well maintained.Good layout, could be very difficult if it was windy. Would play again. Course #8 - Pacific Dunes, Bandon Oregon, Green Tees - 74: My favorite course. Views are amazing. Bunkers are incredible difficult. Avoid avoid avoid. Greens are firm and subtle. I love this place.

    How'd you play?

Also shot 79 today - it was a mixed bag of good shots and incomplete turns leading to blocks - Only missed 2 fairways though and the good ones were really good. Finally made birdie on 18. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  10. Week 2 of the second level is in the books. Had my best session yet today, which was a surprise because my right should has been a little stiff & sore the past few days (Why? Who knows, I'm 56 ) and with the outdoor temperature about 7 right now, even the garage is pretty cold. Broke the 100 mph barrier in a couple of new columns, pretty psyched about that! Like some others have mentioned, I was a little concerned early on about what trying to swing as fast as I can would do to my form, but I'm starting to feel that is actually is starting to help because my body needs to move more efficiently to swing faster and my brain is now starting to make adjustments which turn into better form. And I believe that is the whole basis underlying SuperSpeed Golf's system. I don't believe that specifically stated on SuperSpeed's website, unless I missed it, but it fits right in with Adam Young's training philosophy - and that's kind of how I got here: Adam Young's blog mentioned Jon Sherman's Practical Golf Site, where I read Jon's review of SSG, which had a comment from someone that linked to this review.

  12. I tried the Spider X at a demo day a few weeks ago and I can say the feel is noticeably different from the standard Spider. The rep said its significantly more face weighted making it super smooth for a straight back and through putting style. If it wasn't $350 I would have bought one already. 13. Ok, good thread/topic. Here's another 'slight' dimension to it. I bought my Titleist blades off the shelf, no idea about length, lie, lofts, shafts, kick points etc played everyday and worked out how to hit it well, in my eyes. Got down to a 3 h/cap after 3 years. Next set of Mizuno blades I bought off the shelf as the pro said it was a cancelled order and do I want them at cost. No idea what shafts they had or anything about Mizuno blades. Used them for 12 years and h/cap stayed around the 4 or 5 mark. Occasionally shot under par. Then I 'discovered' tons of info about the technicalities of the game, equipment specs, kick points, lie angle, bounce and proceeded to get lessons (occasionally I would have a swing breakdown with shanks, pulls, duffs etc) and then fitted for a driver and irons. There now follows years and years of tweaking and chasing a good game thru equipment and quick fix lessons. I could go two seasons without breaking 80 and my game was one shot brilliant, next shot a duff or thin. I'm still kinda chasing my game but recently found the root of all my issues and working on that myself with excellent results, so far. So in summary I think if you have a good swing you can play anything and will adapt to any shaft or head or lofts. Lessons and fitting really help to narrow down the key areas that you as an individual and unique person must work on, within your own physical limitations. I've seen teachers trying to give a pupil the perfect swing when they physically or mentally will never achieve this repeatedly, but that doesn't mean they will never play well, the tour and sub tours have guys with swings a coach would never teach but they do exceptionally well. /sorry for the long reply, it started as a 2 liner

  16. I feel like I want to make the switch to Evnroll so bad, but I've got to be able to demo one first and no one in my area has them. In fact, I've not yet seen one in person anywhere... I believe their groove tech works - it certainly makes logical sense and MGS backs it up - but if I can't demo one against my gamer (which works great for me) then I doubt I'll drop the $$$ on one. The only reason I have a Scotty in my bag is because I was able to borrow the pro shop's demo every round I played for nearly a month. After you see enough putts drop, you don't too much question cost or brand loyalty or anything else. You just fork over the money!!! LOL

  17. @revkev we are glad you saw your speeds spike again at the end of the Level 2 training. You may still get more gains if you continue to the next level. The great thing now is that if you choose to take a break from the training you should pick back up close to where you left off. Typically the gains after the first 2 protocols levels are now permanent baring some type of physical injury after you stop training. We always want the last swings of the day to really attempt to max it out and imprint that into the brain.

  18. Update to my previous post: Got my new PXG Gen 2 driver today in the mail! My first impression is that it is lightweight.. It has to be the carbon fiber crown. I have the 0811x Gen 2 9 degree loft with a Tensei CK Pro Blue 70tx shaft which is 77g - and it feels way lighter than my old M1 which had a Tour AD BBx7 shaft which was 76g. Face looks like it sits very square, and the alignment aid is great.. Also I got the midsize grip which doesn't seem midsize, it seems like a couple extra wraps but is super comfortable. Haven't hit it yet, but hopefully will early next week. But wanted to give you guys some pictures.

  36. Finally broke 80 again at my new club with a solid 79... with my new irons. getting used to how to hit them, seems they like a slight cut more so than a slight draw. But they go pretty well. The greens are in a weird winter mode- super thin grass on greens, then soft wet dirt underneath. Very hard to get anything to stop on them as the mud just sucks the spin right off...

    Cobra F9 Driver Thread

... 3 days of driving didn't do my back any favors and I am still stiff and sore. Taking it easy and avoiding spasms but played a couple days which is enough to know I absolutely love the sound and feel of the F9. I have never had a sound which is a mid pitch thwack, not a low thud, but feel so dense. Normally the feel is a little crisper to match the sound so a perfect combo of sound and feel for me and I think many are gonna love the combo. Almost like the face holds the ball an extra millisecond before rebounding with the ball jumping off the face. I will have to wait til I can swing freely to really judge performance, hopefully within the next week or so. But so far I am impressed, and again the F9 3 wood is just sooooo long and forgiving paired with the Atmos Tour Spec Blue shaft. ... One change I have already made is white paint fill on the crown logo. The yellow was by no means distracting or unattractive but I have had a white logo on my crown for so long, it is just a comfortable look for me and easy to do as I just traced the logo with white dots. Looks like "2nd grade arts and crafts" up close but from address, it looks good and that is really all that counts:
