    Shoe Ho's Anonymous

This is merely the current rotation roster. And five of this group have identical NIB backups. Assumed it wasn’t really a problem because I hadn’t attended any anonymous meetings. But since I’m already here, my name is DLK and I’m the worst kind of shoe ho.

We are human with likes, dislikes and bias. I can play with something that doesn't look good to my eye. But I can't play with something that looks bad to my eye. My first round with the previous version of the Cut Blue, shiny and cheap looking, I shot a 66 tying my lowest score. My next round playing it, I hit a high push off the first tee and immediately thought "POS shiny Cut ball!" and switched to my favorite TP5x and when I hit a bad shot it was my fault and had nothing to do the the TP5x.

  4. Love my progress. All my standing regular and step change swings are in the 100s. Hit a new all time high speed for any swing with left handed step change swing. I can taste 120 in the next session or two!

  5. What's worse than the guy who takes you shot-by-shot through his mediocre round of golf? The guy who takes you shot-by-shot through his mediocre simulated range session! And yet here we are. Here's the big picture summary: Overall, a 9.6 handicap. Obviously, that's in keeping with my single digit goal—barely. It's also not really any improvement from my golf last summer. Since I haven't done much work on my full swing lately, that isn't a surprise. The wedge distances (40, 75, 90) were not great. For whatever reason, I was misjudging the 40 yard distance, leaving a couple really short. And then I thinned one of the 90 yard shots about 135. That'll mess up the handicap. The major weak point was the 105/120/135 range. There were a couple of factors here. One was stubbornness: I remain convinced that these three shots should be my SW, GW, and PW respectively. But I just wasn't getting there with those clubs. I eventually caved in on the last three shots at 135, grabbing my 9i. There's more to say here, related to what follows. From 150–190, I put up some really respectable numbers: mid-single digit handicaps on average. And I was finally getting the distances I wanted out of each club (which leads me to believe that, with tweaks, I can get those distances from the wedges). From 150, I was using my 8i; 165 was my 7i; 175 with my 6i; and 190 with my 5i. In each case, I was still (on average) just under five yards short of target, but still hitting the greens easily. On these swings, I made one tweak to my swing which seemed to make a difference: better posture, without the shoulders hunched at address. I need to figure out why that made a difference. The other point of focus remains my footwork. On a good swing, my feel is that I load up on my right heel, then transfer my weight from my right heel to my left heel. This facilitates keeping my hips deep and a shallow swing. If at any point, my weight starts moving toward my toes, my hips come forward, and my swing steepens. For many, this would create a fade, but my face always ends up left, and so I get the massive pull-hook which goes off the planet. I offer this as exhibit A: There's so much good here. I start with an OK shot. But then, three straight +4 shots (that's the best score SkyTrak gives), averaging 15 feet from the cup from 175. Then, the hook: 44(!) yards left, 132 feet from the pin, and a 36 handicap (the worst score that SkyTrak gives). That's the big miss. That's the shot I've got to eliminate, because that's the one that goes into the woods on my course here. Anyway, despite the mediocre results, I think it was a productive session. I hit some good shots, found some things that work, and I know what I need to continue to grind on.

  6. If anyone here hasn’t seen 30 for 30 requiem for the Big East it’s truly must watch TV. Had a bizarre workout today. Hit 117 RH, 4 consecutive 104’s with the red club, 111 LH - all kinds of crazy lefty stuff but no consistency. Still big numbers in the book! SuperSpeed would be proud of me and I’m flying high from the for real drives last Sunday - a 250? That’s where I was at 20 years ago, Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  7. Epilogue I wanted to post something somewhere to clearly make a point about the value of the SuperSpeed Golf system. Anyone reading this thread should know by now about the swing speed gains of the group (everyone had significant gains of 5 mph in driver swing speed plus - 5 mph is 10-15 yards or a club - every shot. Most of us had closer to a 10 mph gain in driver SS). There are now over 600 touring pros using SuperSpeed and many of us saw Phil Mickelson swinging his red club to warm up between rain delays at Pebble Beach. He says he's picked up 6 mph through the training and his official track man numbers are up over 4 mph which is huge - 10 yards or so. So here's why I'm writing this post and if you find it of value you might direct others to it - I labored with where to put it because it could fit in a lot of different categories before deciding to just leave it here. Beyond a doubt SuperSpeed is the easiest way to increase your driver distance and at half the cost of a new driver which is unlikely to gain you any distance at all. Save the money on the driver, do the workouts and get fit for your new driver at the end of the season when the prices come down because your specs will have changed. It's a sure thing that if you follow the program and stick with it you will gain yardage. While they don't push this I think all of us will tell you that you will start to become a better ball striker also - or maybe I'm the only one noticing that because I'm the only one who gets to play. I know that there are a lot of numbers in this thread but here are a few to help make sense of it. The last two rounds of golf that I've played have been at a course that I hadn't played for a year and my own club that I hadn't played since December (too busy and the few times that I've played have been as a guest at other people's clubs.) My drives were between 210-225 prior to SuperSpeed - I had moved up a half a set of tees to compensate for the lack of distance but the Innisbrook course that we were on didn't have a suitable set so we played the next to back tees - that meant a stretch of two long (over 400 yards) par 4's and a very long (580 yard) par 5. I remember playing there prior and not being able to reach one of the par 4's with driver and 4 wood and having driver, 4 wood, 4 hybrid on the par 5. This time it was driver 7 iron, driver 8 iron, driver, 4 wood, 7 iron on the par 5 into a stiff breeze. My club has 5 par 4's over 400 yards on it from the white tees - that's what caused me to move to the green/white combo or Senior Championship tees. This Sunday I moved back a set (the blue/white combo) and took all of the par 5's on. I had iron into 3 of the 5 when in the past I always had fairway wood or hybrid into all of them. Three of my drives were my longest ever on the holes that I was playing (and it was fairly wet). I actually got to try and reach a par 5 in two and having come up just short had a simple chip and tap in for birdie. As my playing companion said it's a totally different game - we measured all of my drives except the one that hit a stupid tree (the tree is in the middle of the fairway so don't think horribly wild.) The were between 230 and 247 - 20 to 25 yards longer with driver and proportionally the same kinds of increases with my irons. Who knows where that will end up once I get my equipment dialed back in. So for around $300 and an investment of about an hour and a half a week you can gain between 15-25 yards. I understand not doing it if you don't have the money but if you are planning to purchase equipment why wouldn't you do this first? The good weather is coming. You can do these workouts on the back part of a driving range - after about 26 weeks (the summer period) the gains will be permanent. There - I've said my piece - good luck and happy golfing!

  9. I'm at about that point - my irons are starting to get away from me a bit (launching too high.) Driver still seems okay but I suspect I could use something different - we'll see - I received a nice honorarium for a recent funeral that will go into golf equipment - exactly what it will go for is up in the air at this moment based upon a variety of factors including an upcoming demo day fitting, what testing opportunities come up and whether or not I'm selected. Bottom line is that I know I need to change irons or at least the shaft in my irons to something stronger (whether a heavier R flex or something in an S will be up to my fitter and I) SuperSpeed has suggested that any equipment change be made during a plateau period and I'm squarely in my second plateau - so now's the time. Good luck with your training! Let us know how it goes.

  11. I’m here. Don’t really have anything to add that hasn’t been said. Except all this [emoji652]️ Everyone has a different reason that they play this wonderful game... we all love. For me it’s the profile of the iron, and really my set aren’t really “blades” at the moment. They are “Bladez”... still quite compact, ok(ish) looking at address, and send the ball in somewhat the direction I intended s it to go on. I won’t discount any of the work here that MGS does, heck that’s why I bought my irons, I read about them on here... so as a leader in weeding through the cow crap, I got 4 great seasons out of these things.... so I’ll thank GolfSpy T for that article, and that purchase. Face progression is my main reason I like them. Offset makes me want to puke. I don’t know what it is, my first “real set” were hugely offset, and before YouTube, and no lessons so I had no idea what the heck I was doing, so every thing went right. Yeah weird right, the clubface looked so closed I was opening it up. Probably had a sweet swing as a kid, but listening to a 20 capper on how to swing I had no idea. So to “fix” that offset I opened the clubface and hit fades all day. Hated it. Fast forward to my early 30’s, YouTube, etc. and here I am figuring things out. I’ll probably end up with some sort of combo set by the time my project is over, but if you ask me a 34° club is a 34° club and you should get the same yardages out of it.

  12. I play blades because my proximity stats with 4i-SW are better than the tour average and for me the foundation of that stat is distance control via trajectory manipulation. A smaller instrument is also my preference when I need to dig the ball out of a less than ideal lie. If golf were a game of strictly full swings from perfect lies then I might choose a different tack, but for the time being it's still a game that rewards intentional creativity. And nothing gets my creative juices flowing more than my Adams IDEA MB2s.

  13. I went through a fitting and changed driver shafts to a different model, but still the same stiff flex. It’s not a guarantee you’ll need new clubs/shafts since you also have to figure in tempo and other factors than just clubhead speed. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  14. Just grabbed a new in package OG Game Golf off the 'Bay for $27. I wanted one so I had a second set of tags (as I switch out clubs and a couple of mine have broken). Having the second device just means we get to track Kirke's shots this summer

  16. One issue I see with current “forgiving” irons is the lack of spin control. Distance is the name of the game, therefore high launching, low spinning shots are the result of today’s designs. To get clubs that aren’t made this way, it’s necessary to go to more of a “player’s” iron that has a little less offset, and is a little less forgiving. I also don’t like a big, chunky iron. I just can’t hit them, so based on that, the “thinner” top lines are usually more toward the player’s side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  17. Spot on. Spot the heck on! Not all people are bad with irons. My driver could cost me more strokes than my iron play will ever on one or two holes!

  18. I never understood why there was such a strong opinion towards people who shouldn’t play blades. I feel confident playing my Hogan’s (prior to that it was 962b’s and 670’s) and I kept it under a 4 index. Maybe I could have been better while playing something more forgiving but my errors aren’t from irons. I lose strokes because I... 1) lose focus 2) short game errors 3) errant drive So if they look good, swing them. Who really cares anyways. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  19. And... all of the marketing hoopla. Sure brand A’s 7 iron goes 180, but it’s the same loft as brand B’s 6 iron. And a lot of the other testing outfits take iron vs iron, but you could have a 4° loft difference with the same number on the bottom. So of course the launch angles, spin, and carry will be different!

  23. Photo courtesy of the interwebs: The player: Current gamer - Titleist Pro V1x / Taylormade TP5x Handicap or Ave score - 8hdcp 7 iron carry distance with current ball - 175 Trajectory - mid/high Putter - Scotty Cameron Newport 2 The ball: 2019 OnCore Elixr Distance - Same or slightly less (wind was swirling, hard to tell) Trajectory - high Spin - stop or spin back Feel - soft Durability (1 round) - very good Rating - Casual Notes or writeup: So since OnCore had a giveaway and I received my free sleeve, I figured the least I could do would be a short review of my impressions. Overall I am quite happy with the performance. It seemed to launch pretty high and wasn't terribly affected by some of the surprisingly strong winds I ended up playing in. The feel off the clubface was a bit too soft for my preferences, even though it performed similarly to some high end balls. Distance seemed good, I was lucky enough to be playing alone after work so I could hit 2 balls. On two seemingly well struck balls the Taylormade (TP5 this day) I was playing went ever so further, which seems impressive considering how soft off the face the OnCore felt. My biggest gripe, as embarrassing as it is to admit, is the aesthetics. In my humblest, uneducated opinion, the graphics on the ball are not pleasing to the eye at all. I feel silly for saying this, but it translated to not having much confidence in standing over the ball, it just looks cheap - despite how well it performed. If you are interested in the Elixr and the design on the ball is not important to you, I would not hesitate to recommend this ball. Until the logo is changed, shrunk, or something else, I wouldn't buy these balls for myself.

  24. Lets go CHICAGO!!!! I've been a Bears fan all my life (I'm 43 now). When I started liking football was prime 84/85 Bears time. I was a QB and wanted to be Jimmy Mac! That entire team was loaded from top to bottom. Walter, Dent, Singletary, Hampton, Gault etc. I am so glad we didn't get L. Bell! We are a young team that plays for each other! I think the Browns are going to make a playoff run with all their acquisitions, but they still won't be able to keep up with DA BEARS!!!

I know sales for the Truvis have been excellent for Callaway. And I would guess Taylormade thought it was missing a share of the market and this is their best response... I myself have not been a fan of the Truvis balls, they make my head hurt watching them on and around the green. Again just personal experience. So this is just "meh" news for me

  30. ... Yup. I am of the belief to win playoff games in the NFL, sooner or later your QB has to mount a game wining drive when everyone knows he is throwing the ball. Foles isn't gonna win a shootout but he has proven he can produce that game winning drive. Many teams don't have that QB and it is why an above average but not franchise NFL QB is so valuable. When you have a Carr, Stafford, Cutler or Goff, you have to hang on to them until you find a better QB. Sure, every fan wants a Brees, Brady, Rodgers, Luck or Mahomes but they are so few and far between. It is almost a curse to have that above average QB but not franchise QB and fans don't like it, but watching the Bears 50 starting QB's, and almost all of them well below average, ya gotta hang on to the Foles of the NFL. Unless you hit the jackpot with a franchise QB. While the Bears were starting 50 QB's, the Packers were starting 2: Favre and Rodgers. And the records for those years are obvious.

  34. My main clubs are my KZG Forged cavity backs which are a players style cavity back but I take out my 1954 Hogan Precisions or 1958 Wilson Dyna-Powered’s and score similarly with each. I prefer a simple forged iron. I like the feel and accuracy of persimmon woods so I play them exclusively now with my 1-3-4 woods covering my 200-250 yard distances. I choose tees that are appropriate for the distance I can hit my persimmon driver. I don’t need to play the tips to “experience the whole course”. At 6000-6400 yards, my persimmons and traditional loft irons can get the job done. I can easily throw my modern driver back in the bag if I really feel the urge to play longer courses, but that hasn’t happened in nearly 8 months. I have no interest in hitting my irons further using hollow heads or speed foam. The goal of iron play is ACCURACY, not distance. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

How it knew to do this I'll never tell. But since I'm here and I coincidentally or conveniently (which ever works for you), just happen to have some reward coupons with me.. To quench my addiction, I just had to check out the sales. Low and behold, last year's Pro SL's were on the deep discount table and miraculously there was one pair left in my size! I, as many of you would quickly snatched them up and appropriately disposed of my reward certificates . Hopefully you won't think any less of me. I promise not to buy any other golf stuff (at least for a little while).

  38. I recently did my iron fitting and be relatively new to golf and still working on my swing and flexibility, I cant produce a higher swing speed as easy. With my 7 iron I was getting 76-78 mph and decent distance on a few different steel shafts. I tried out some graphite shafts and was around 85-87mph and the dispersion was less as well. The flight was overall better, a little more spin and higher launch which helps me since I'm a bit of a picker that doesnt get it up in the air as well as I would like. So in my new irons I will be playing the Recoil 760 w/ smacwrap.
